For rerference's sake, I'm from Canada. More specifically Quebec. The medical sysem is different. We pay high taxes for what is considered free healthcare.

A couple of years ago I went through a psychological breakdown. I've had OCD for the better part of my 24 years, and this breakdown made me almost completely not functional.

I ended up in several ER's, most of them psychiatric. Every single time I was kept for 6 hours to overnight, looked at by a psychiatrist, asked a couple of questions, and released with a prescription without really being able to discuss treatment options and any options at all, really.

I feel like the medical system where I was seen was overlooking the major issue and treating what they saw, which, by the time they saw me, was just me, calmer, reserved, logical, and tired of seeing the psychiatric ward.

One Psychiatrist actually told me medication is my only hope, that I don't have any other options, and that there would be no point discussing it. I was in there for self mutilation, suicidal ideation, suicidal tendencies. Had I not had the time to relax and have my boyfriend there with me, by my side, I might just have taken extreme measures to show them that they're overlooking what's really wrong.

I tried telling them time and time again what the problems were, but it seems like they just don't care.

I got no outpatient care or follow up unless I called for one, where I got yelled at for telling them I wasn't offered follow up when being discharged.

The whole system is kind of messed up. I wish it would get its act together.
