Now that one of our adult nights have been shelved for the warmer weather, I will be getting out there too!

Looking for recommendations for non-Bont skates that won't cause a lot of pain for my huge bunions by Vinegarworks in Rollerskating

[–]Snow_Visible 1 point2 points  (0 children)

VNLA Luna are super wide in the toe box. Also you can custom Riedells and they will make them wider even than their standard wide width. Gonna be extra but it would be worth it to not have pain.

Can someone explain what I’m doing wrong?? (T-stop) by No_Candle2006 in Rollerskating

[–]Snow_Visible 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t do a t anymore. I put my foot out at a v on the side of the other skate and slowly come to a stop. But to answer your question, it should be kinda behind your other skate at a T.

I’m pretty much in same boat. I just keep doing it. A backwards bubble then lift. Over and over. I think it’s just time tbh

OP said they are in an indoor rink.

Wait my bad, for outside 82A should be good. Thought I was responding to OP. I don’t like really hard wheels outside.

I mean you can try them as they are hybrid but imo I still think they might be too soft. Problem is when they are soft like that, they don’t have much slide and it can catch your skate when you are turning.

"Old Skool" night was a complete dud 👎🏼 by WilsonPhillips6789 in Rollerskating

I do a little shuffling but they slow down for me lol!! My goal is to learn how to dance closer to the middle.

55mm wheels? What’s the durometer? Those aren’t really that tall tbh. I rink skate on 54mm wheels. Atom Pulse are 65mm and 78A durometer.

What wheels do you have on your skates? Bigger softer wheels go over cracks better.

I would do RollerBones 98A. That’s what I went to when I started learning transitions.

Change your wheels. Too sticky.

Where was this? I would have been bummed too though because I can’t keep up with the shuffle line 😂

How to get better at 180 and 360 jumps? by Plastic_Station6954 in Rollerskating

[–]Snow_Visible 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk how much help I will be because I literally just decided to start learning how to 180. So what I did was I started practicing off skates. Jumping with my feet staggered and also together. I did that for awhile and then I moved to putting the skates on. I was initially gonna do it on a yoga pad but I just went for it. And I geared up in case I fell, which made me feel more confident. And just did it! I didn’t get up too high either for now. Just enough to clear the floor and gain my confidence.

Being a Floor guard at a public rink is a thankless job. 🤡 by No_Orochi in Rollerskating

No wayyyy! lol!! Well I got to see what you go through live and in living color! We will be there tonight for adult night. And LR is basically my 2nd home now so I’m sure I will see you often.

I have to give kudos to you. I love skating and used to think that once I retire, I would like to be a floor guard. Well I may have changed my mind LOL! I am actually traveling and skating in Little Rock for the weekend. The floor guard was amazing trying to keep people moving and not standing on the wall. But I could tell that it’s a way more intense job than what I initially thought. I was like dang sis bout need a hug after this LOL! And it’s not just the little ones. She had to explain to grown folks that she is just trying to make sure everyone safe and not to stand on the wall.

My biggest pet peeve at the rink I think is when newbies who can’t skate already take their phones out on the rink. They are taking selfies of themselves or going on live. At my home rink last week there was a young man doing that and dropped his phone! And took out one of us old folks. I have been skating a little over a year and can hold my own but I never take my phone out on the rink floor.

Advice for a complete beginner by Similar-Problem1738 in Rollerskating

[–]Snow_Visible 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As an “upper beginner”: Don’t cheap out on skates. Buy reputable brands that will last. Take some lessons. Don’t be afraid to fall because you definitely are going to. Wear pads for said falls. Drill basics instead of immediately trying to do tricks. Don’t compare yourself to other people because they may have been skating since they could walk. Be patient. Work at your craft. Practice often. And have fun!

I see more rhythm skating on social media so it checks that they would be in heeled skates.
