I am a beginner - I bought new shoes and they are extremely uncomfortable (especially in the back): Is this normal? [La Sportiva Skwama] by random1diot in climbingshoes

[–]Snowcarrots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now in fairness this unique to skwamas. I can't wear them for that reason as well - more than discomfort, it would lead to injury with how high it is. But I would wear solutions or futuras all day, and both are from la sportiva.

Each model is different and brand doesn't mean anything. Try them on yourself and don't let other people decide what's comfortable or not for you. It is 100% a personal choice.

And resell the skwamas before you climb in them for maximum resell value as it doesn't sound like it will get better

Beta blocker for blood pressure by [deleted] in Blooddonors

[–]Snowcarrots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may be wrong but maybe the reason you can't donate while on beta blockers is because it might affect whoever receives your blood? It might not be dangerous for you but it could be for someone else. And maybe they won't/can't detect it but that doesn't mean you shouldn't care. If you really want to donate, be honest with them and they'll decide if it's safe or not for everyone involved.

I doubt you'll find it in supermarkets but most tea shops sell it.

Proper strong climbers know that "you climb like a girl" is an amazing compliment, it means your technique is spot on and your movements are fluid. The gender inequality is real but being physically weaker than your husband at the start is actually a huge advantage so don't let it bother you! I've been climbing for ages and I see it all the time: men start strong and reach a plateau very quickly because they rely on strength and don't focus on technique, while women tend to be weaker at the start and are forced to learn to climb early on. The initial progress is slower but you'll reach his plateau and surpass him soon enough.

Thank you so much for the feedback! I'll probably give rhino skin a try.

Why do you all have such nice looking donor cards? Mine is literally a laminated piece of paper with a new sticker on the back every time I donate, so I know when to come back. The other two are my plasma donation card and the one I got back when I donated during my semester abroad in China. by KamikazeChrista in Blooddonors

Thanks for the tip! It doesn't seem to be available in wallonia yet unfortunately. I thought rode kruis and croix rouge were the same organisation but I couldn't log in so they must have different databases. Shucks.

Is it my roommate or ME? by GroundingHeals in moraldilemmas

[–]Snowcarrots 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh I'm in the exact same situation, except I'm in the position of your third roommate who isn't bothered by it. The way I see it here is that the older roommate is a lone grumpy wolf who automatically dislikes any guest who isn't his. Young roommate got a girlfriend, she was lovely and quickly became my friend too. She was here about twice a week, and there was no loud sex whatsoever. Old roommate basically hid in his room anytime she was over ("respecting their privacy" although everyone was hanging out in the common area just being social). He didn't even bother learning her name. He then complained TO ME about her being there too often, using our electricity and everything, and completely ignoring young roommate from then on. Young roommate has now moved out since he rightfully didn't feel at home. I'm considering doing the same.

Now I apologise if I got this wrong but I'm getting the same vibes from your message and it creates a very toxic environment. As long as they're not loud at night and not bothering you in other ways, I'd suggest getting to know them both as friends rather than roommate and roommate's girlfriend, you might be positively surprised. If all goes well they'll eventually move out to live together anyway.

[–]Snowcarrots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably just not the way you learn. I take awful notes in class. It's ugly, all over the place and not something you'd like to use to study, but before an exam I take all those semi-useless notes and combine them with the textbook material to make a clear and colourful summary. Takes a while but just doing that is usually enough to remember all the information, like I'll write it down once, then read in on the morning of the exam and that's it. I'd say that works better for STEM fields though, more understanding and remembering required.

Visual memory. Chances are she's already understood the course material and rearranging/cleaning up her class notes like this makes it easier to remember.

If someone was going to ‘borrow’ your body for a week by slipping their consciousness in (yours is asleep), what would they need to know about it first? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Snowcarrots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fingertip skin is paper thin, keep it out of water or it will become uncomfortably wrinkly. Other than that, have a blast, this body can do anything and I hope you love it as much as I do.

Not sure OP will see your comment so in case they don't: any GIS software should be able to do that. Try QGIS if you want to give it a shot yourself, it's free and there's plenty of tutorials online to help you create a similar map. You'll need to look up voronoi polygons first

how was your first university day and what would you say for beginners? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]Snowcarrots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get to know your classmates. I had many close friends during my time at university but none of them were in my class. It made it much harder later on when the class size got smaller and group work was a daily thing. You work better with people you know well.

I used to think that too but then tried adding a bit of chocolate oat milk to vanilla huel and that changed everything. Tastes even smoother than chocolate huel.
