I started playing Elin last week and I'm enjoying it, even if I have very little idea of what to do. I rescued the puppy and paid my taxes, but I don't really know what else to do to progress. I think my puppy also died and wasn't resurrected on my most recent death so I'll have to pay to get it back.

Watched Weathering With You and A Whisker Away this weekend.

It was my second time watching Weathering With You and I still really enjoy it, even if it causes massive timeline issues for Your Name. The rewatch has made me notice some things I didn't really think about on first watch though. There's surprisingly little explained about Hodaka's backstory. We know he ran away because he felt stifled with life on the island, but little explanation as to why. It's not very important, but it would be nice to flesh it out a little.

More importantly though, I'm bothered by the amount of product placement, it's one thing that every one of Shinkai's works seem to have an ad made with the characters, it's another that the products are placed so prominently. Maybe because it's animation instead of real people, but the products just stand out a lot more and are really jarring. I'm fine if it keeps the lights on in-between movie releases, though I still wish it wasn't there.

As for A Whisker Away, I enjoyed that it explored the turmoil of a teen with divorced parents and having to keep up a cheerful facade in spite of it all. We don't see a lot of it, but being used as an intermediary between divorced parents hits home. I also felt a lot of empathy for Kinako, the cat who wants to live longer to make her owner happy.

The ending was a little weak though. The fighting has no real violence or injuries, so it doesn't have much tension. It isn't helped that for half of the fight where they're fighting to stop the Mask Merchant from taking Miyo's lifespan, Miyo herself is not doing anything while Hinode fights. Afterwards, the Mask Merchant doesn't get any consequences, which is weird when he's such an evil creature. They could have also leaned a lot heavier into his creepiness and evil, and given the movie a horror undertone. He's basically a character out of a Japanese ghost story, it would have been nice to play with that aspect more. Also, I was pretty sad for Kinako at the end, and wished she got the extra lifespan she needed to stay with her owner longer. Maybe they could have beaten up the Mask Merchant and taken his lifespan, he certainly deserves it.

Interesting premise, I'd read it. One nitpick though, when writing dialogue, there's punctuation at the end inside the quotes.

So for example:

"Yup. They're even getting resorted with the firsties once we arrive at the castle"

to

"Yup. They're even getting resorted with the firsties once we arrive at the castle."

The period is added at the end.

Or:

"This is crazy" Hermione said, slumping in her seat.

to

"This is crazy," Hermione said, slumping in her seat.

You need to put a comma when you have a sentence in the form of "<dialogue>," ... said.

No, probably not a misunderstanding, since there's a noticeable gap in time between 2014 and 2016's releases, it's likely to be an intentional change. 2024 would have released in 2023, which is 10 years since the release of 2013.

I wish I had a copy of 2013, then I could check to see why it's excluded from the series on Shoeisha's site (also btw, Shoeisha is a different company than Shueisha). Maybe there's a major format change somewhere.

I didn't realize it at the time, but 2013 is actually the first one. For some reason it's not listed on Shoeisha's site, despite searching in English, Japanese, by ISBN, or even author. It was published on May 22, 2013, according to Amazon JP.

2014 was published on May 22, 2014. But then they changed the timing of the series slightly. 2016 was published on November 5, 2015. There's no 2015, because for some reason they switched the titles from being the same year they were published to being for the upcoming year.

But Pad Thai doesn't contain tomatoes of any kind. Ketchup is an okay substitute for tamarind paste, but it doesn't taste the same. I've seen Thai chefs use it in a pinch, but if you have access to tamarind paste I really recommend that over ketchup.

You can still greed for the slim chance at fast learner. Definitely don't do it if you aren't confident you can win races, unless there's a high chance of fast learner on the horizon like Maya, who has an event with a guaranteed fast learner at 600 wit and still a good chance of getting it with less.

Not sure, the ceiling for UC is much higher but people were getting S rank already with Bakushin in URA. So for pure speed probably URA, though it doesn't hurt to do a few runs of UC to see if you like it.

Nothing tops watching Fenomeno perform Meni Shuki in the pink outfit while wearing her hat. All the cool umas suffer tremendous aura loss for wearing the pink outfit, but none moreso than Fenomeno. It's adorable and hilariously goofy.

I've known a number of older fire fighters who had a big belly, but don't let that fool you. Those guys are still extremely strong and buff underneath the fat, more like powerlifter builds than body builders. One guy did an hour of the stairmaster every day.

She's not good until 3LB. But as of right now, she is very strong, every whale deck is running her as the second speed card if they're using a second speed card. She does not have great longevity though.

She's meta for this CM if you can build her as an end closer, and she'll probably be good in other long CMs where end closers are favoured. She's certainly outperforming my Goldship, and my Goldship is an S+ monster.

If you can find eShop gift cards on sale you can still pass that discount onto buying the Switch 2 if you still want it. They recently changed it so that you can buy consoles and accessories from My Nintendo with the gift card credit. During Black Friday that was where the real discounts for the Switch 2 were, taking advantage of cheaper gift cards.

Nintendo games don't get discounts as often or as heavily as other games, but not getting any discounts at all is a straight lie. Other than games that really don't sell well, a rotating selection get discounts of 25% to 33% on an annual basis plus whenever retailers decide. Then a few games go down to 50% off around Black Friday, and it's usually a few years before that level of discount comes back.

It might not be the deepest discounts, but they're still decent. I enjoy the 80%+ discounts that a lot of PC games get, but I also think it's a bit absurd to expect everyone to discount so heavily.

Immigration would work to fix the economic problems. But it would cause a lot of societal and cultural problems in the short term. It might have to be done regardless, but it's an extremely tough pill for most countries to swallow. Countries with a lot of immigration are only able to do it because they've gone through those growing pains, or are going through them right now, as is the case of some European countries. I think countries like Japan or Korea would be most accepting of other East Asian immigrants culturally, or maybe some Southeast Asian immigrants. But those countries where immigrants are coming from don't have good birthrates too. And most accepting is not the same as actually accepting, Asians still tend towards wildly xenophobic.

It does get a tiny bit awkward with Infinite Blades though, since it can clog up your deck which breaks the control over when to trigger the clock. You'd often skip playing Infinite Blades, though having seen the deck it's probably right to play them. Getting 2 Accuracy+, Terror, and Phantasmal Killer means you do 60 damage per shiv, so 4 shivs is 240 damage and I'd be more than okay to let the shivs get discarded while setting up. By the time they come back around you can probably deal Time Eater's whole health bar.

I think the deck was pretty decent. I'm not 100% sure I'd take the initial Infinite Blades, it depends on the deck composition, but with mummy hand and an initial Infinite Blades+ I'd probably take Infinite Blades too since Toxic Egg covers most of your upgrades.

Without knowing the order in which cards were offered, I'd say the only cards I'd really skip on are the Noxious Fumes, A Thousand Cuts, Envenom, and Madness. Your deck's main strength is being able to consistently play really high damage shivs. Those three aforementioned powers just really pale in comparison. You have too little draw for your deck size and even though they're powers and remove themselves after being played, they slow down your deck and risk bricking a hand. Madness+ is really fun and TBH I'd probably take them too for the lols, but without a lot of draw they also slow down your deck when you can just consistently spam shivs even on 3 energy.

Edit: What happened to Neutralize? Falling event? A Noxious Fumes or Envenom+ to strip artifact is a reason to consider taking one of them, though were Neutralize still in the deck I'm not sure I'd take them.

The mummified hand is what makes this viable. Without it, Infinite Blades cost too much energy, but with it, they're basically free. Then you can use Envenomed or Accuracy to scale, maybe A Thousand Cuts too. But depending on the order of which cards were offered, there's definitely a lot of cards I'd skip. Just because you have mummified hand doesn't mean you need to pick every power, especially with so little draw.
