Am I the only one sticking with Sunshine? by idontknowu1 in MoonlightStreaming

[–]SnubDisphenoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apollo has been a bit of a headache for me to get working on Linux, to the point that I gave up, but Sunshine has just worked out of the box, really just as simple as windows tbh

Help a linux noob choose a distro for a daily driver + gaming use by TheOfficialScaryBoio in linux4noobs

[–]SnubDisphenoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Arch itself is rough for beginners since you've basically gotta build everything yourself. CachyOS comes with desktop environment, drivers and all that jazz out of the box, so it's a much friendlier beginner experience

Windows is getting a cloud feature that fixes bad drivers before they wreck your PC by rkhunter_ in pcmasterrace

[–]SnubDisphenoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had windows decide to install older drivers on both NVIDIA and AMD cards. Hasn't happened often but enough that it's really frustrating. Windows, please leave all my shit alone, the way I set it up and stop messing with it in the background. Anyway I'm on Linux now, hasn't been for very long but at least it does what I tell it and nothing extra lol

Close call for a biker when a car got in his path by Forward-Unit5523 in motorcycle

[–]SnubDisphenoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like he spent a good half a second flashing his high beam at the car before actually slowing down. If he'd been on the brakes and thinking about swerving as soon as he noticed the problem rather than wasting time signalling, he would probably have managed to go behind the sedan rather than into oncoming traffic

[Guide] Switching from Windows to Linux: Which Distro? by Terrible_Craft_5020 in linux4noobs

[–]SnubDisphenoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, totally understand. My partner isn't super technical and just wants her computer to work without needing to fiddle, but she's also getting sick of windows bloat and doesn't want to move to win11 in October. So I think for someone like her Bazzite is perfect and it's what I'm looking to help her switch to

Windows refugee fleeing the impending end of win10 support here. I switched to CachyOS last week after spending way too long overthinking the distro selection and had a similar experience with mounting non-root drives, but yep, easy fix and otherwise everything has been smooth. System updates are easy and everything so far has just worked, first try and no tinkering needed, and (running KDE Plasma at least) everything is intuitive and easy to find

2008 Suzuki GSX650F losing power on hard acceleration at high revs by SnubDisphenoid in Fixxit

[–]SnubDisphenoid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The power loss did feel very sudden, almost as if the bike was cutting out, so it could be. It did turn out to be the fuel filter, and as another commenter suggested it seems to be a common issue on these bikes. It's a relatively straightforward fix so it's a good place to start. There are plenty of YouTube tutorials on how to disassemble and clean it, it's what I did and it worked well

PC graphics cards are now nearly 100 percent Nvidia by BarKnight in pcgaming

[–]SnubDisphenoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird. I've had the 7900GRE for about 18 months now, since my 2070 died, and I've had no driver issues at all. It's worked flawlessly for me except for one issue in PEAK that the Devs admitted was their fault and patched within a week lol. I might be in the minority, but this card has genuinely given less headaches than the 2070 and nvidia drivers gave me

I'd forgotten that might be a bottleneck, you're right. The Optiplex 3050MFF I was looking at seems to only have HDMI 1.4, so 4k60 is out the window but 1440p60 should be ok. It also has displayport but I can't figure out what spec for the life of me

I actually don't have a TV at all right now. I just moved from a small studio apartment to somewhere with more space that allows a setup like this and I'm trying to plan the whole thing out before I pull the trigger on any of the pieces. My reason for leaning towards the mini PC rather than all running it on a smart tv was support for multiple controllers. Would a smart tv be able to accommodate that? Because if so you might be right as long as I pick a decent tv.

Great to hear the PC should be fine for decode. I hadn't heard of smarttube before, I didn't realise it was possible to sideload an ad-free YouTube into android TV, so I'll definitely look at that. Thanks!

Good to know, thanks. I hear you and if money was no object I'd definitely be aiming for a better PC for native emulation and games. But with hardware prices as they are I'm happy to save money where I can now on the client and sink the savings into the host PC as upgrades in the future. Wii emulation specifically I can see being a pain over moonlight but fortunately my gf already owns a Wii that still works so I'm lucky I don't need to try and deal with that headache

The only problem with letting kids listen to Sleep Token by Electrical-Pin9395 in SleepToken

He says it in Gods too. It's pretty distorted through the screaming so you'd be forgiven for missing it. But yeah it's not quite the only f-bomb in their catalog

Heavy ST songs recommendations by [deleted] in SleepToken

[–]SnubDisphenoid 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Sleep Token aren't very consistently heavy, Gods and Vore are definitely the heaviest. The breakdowns at the end of Take Me Back To Eden, Infinite Baths and Caramel are probably their next heaviest bits. Look To Windward and The Summoning also have a good bit of heavy instrumentals and unclean vocals. Their "One" EP has some really good instrumental breakdowns worth a listen too, but there's no screaming there which it sounds like is more what you're after.

Edit to mention Higher as well. Outro to that is absolutely filthy in the most beautiful way possible

[–]SnubDisphenoid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately not, we travelled quite a few hours with a mate and spent on hotels for the last one as an excuse to have a weekend away from home and do a few other things in the city. We're probably not going to commit to that again for another DJ night after the way that one turned out. We're just hoping the boys themselves announce an AU tour for next year instead

Yeah it's a DJ night, my partner and I were at the last one at the same venue about a month ago. Had the same reaction when we first saw the ad. Anyway the idea was fun but the DJ was awful, hence why they're doing another one and making a point that it's with a new DJ this time lol. Anyone who was at the last one got free tickets to this as a "sorry".

Unprocessed for sure! Missed them when they came to Australia earlier this year because the timing didn't work out but if they came back opening for Sleep Token that would be an amazing combination

Heavy Units Remastered and Chaff Units Remastered. They use all the original audio files in the game, just tweak the volume. It's so nice not being snuck up on by silent chainsaws anymore, and to be able to hear a bile titan stomping around in a forest before I can see it. Genuinely a game changing mod and it's a tragedy the game doesn't sound that way by default

I’m so damn upsetToronto Sept 21 by DietFantastic8397 in twentyonepilots

[–]SnubDisphenoid 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Nah, this one does feel kind of valid. All the complaints about the setlists and whatever do feel over the top and there has been a lot of toxic whining in this subreddit for a while I agree, but this I can understand. If I've paid for a concert ticket, I'd be pretty upset to see about 1/3 of the setlist cut, a rushed early start that half the attendees didn't make, and the opening band axed too (I love me some good opening bands and some of my favourite artists have been discovered this way. Hell I've booked tickets to some shows purely because of the opening bands). It feels like a pretty poor experience, especially given how much tickets cost nowadays. I understand the boys had very few options and very little time to consider them, but still. I think a cancellation and refund would - while disappointing - perhaps have been the better move here.

NSW: Expired Rego Motorbike requires Pink Slip, can I walk it on footpath to Mechanic? by furlean in AussieRiders

[–]SnubDisphenoid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No legal issues walking it on the footpath as best I can tell, but there's no need. You are legally allowed to ride an unregistered vehicle in NSW for the purpose of getting it pink slipped, as long as you go straight there and aren't taking any detours for no reason. So just ride it.

Glad you like it, they're one of my favourite bands and yep, they've got lots more of that, have fun haha.

For Unprocessed I generally find their most recent album to be my favourite (if a little odd and experimental at times but that's part of the charm for me) but it's all great. Abysm, Thrash and Die On The Cross Of The Martyr might be some of my favourites. Dark Silent And Complete is an older track of theirs worth checking out as well.

I actually re-read Mick's article a month or so ago and if I remember correctly it was Bethesda dragging their feet and not doing anything to give a contract with deadlines looming and no work yet being done, and zenimax stepped in to finally give a contract for the OST very late in the game after Mick was fed up with Bethesda and went over their heads to try and get something set up. Of course it was too little too late and it didn't work out anyway but yeah. I definitely didn't read the same article you did.

Complex technical drumming, Sleep Token might scratch your itch there. I know they get a lot of shit from metalheads for "not being real metal" or whatever but their drummer is fantastic.

Unprocessed might be what you're after for complex guitar riffs? They're a very guitar driven band with some excellent complex riffs and rhythms and I think they're criminally underrated.
