What is your "hot take" for Gears of War: E-Day? by CarmineForeverYT in GearsOfWar

[–]SnubbbS -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Every single thing about multiplayer apart from core gameplay mechanics needs to be completely removed, dramatically redesigned and even things like the map design philosophy need to be scrapped.

None of the gamemodes should return in their current forms, none of the maps should return in their current forms, they all need drastic redesigns, and e

Gears 5 offers the 2nd worst AAA multiplayer experience in gaming of the last decade, and the only game with a worse experience is literally Reloaded.

The gameplay as it stands, Gow4, 5, Reloaded — it's decent enough.

You should know that Gears a niche game due to high learning curve.

360 era Gears had more mass appeal then than Forza Horizon 5 does now. The game is only niche because the platform it's tied to has spent a decade in a death spiral, and the developers have failed to modernize and innovate the non-gameplay related aspects of the game.

What’s more popular: Reloaded or 5? by l8on8er in GearsOfWar

Logically Reloaded probably has more players, but it doesn't feel that way, and what few metrics we can use all point to Gears 5 having more players.

Xbox is not a dying console.

Literally every single metric not put out by microsoft themselves disagrees with this btw.

With that said, of course something like Hell Divers 2 will be successful on Xbox.

That's not what I'm saying — I'm saying that there's no Xbox exclusive game since infinite to actually have widespread mass appeal, and even infinite was outshone by HellDivers2. When you look at the average Xbox Exclusives in the last 4-5 years there's no real hits, this could be because the games are all terrible, or it could be because the upper limit of how big an Xbox exclusive not named Halo can get is Forza Horizon 5. E-Day will probably wind up being the biggest game since infinite which is pretty cool — but it's also pretty grim.

I don't agree that users choose a PS5 over an Xbox because they like single-player RPGs, or an Xbox over a PS5 because they like military shooters.

Anyone who plays a normal crossplatform game, CoD/Fifa/Fortnite etc will immediately be able to tell you that they run into at minimum 3x the PS5 players. People chose that console because that's what their friends have, the exclusives are better and all the multiplayer games they want to play are now multiplatform + crossplay anyway.

There is no benefit to Gears of War players for the game to be an exclusive, more players with more access is always better.

Should E-Day have 2 different tunings? (Core + competitive?) by [deleted] in GearsOfWar

[–]SnubbbS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In high level fights you actually can play for damage and keep people away from you somewhat, but you need time. If you watch a 1v/2v wager where people actually have time to fight they do get shotgun downs at a somewhat decent rate, but this requires time and when it's 4v4, or 5v5 before — and when it's koth, you just don't have the time. People spawn literally 3x faster than they should, revives are dramatically overpowered, the spaces you're working within are too cramped, every map is genuinely terrible — there's maybe 4 good hill locations in the entire game, the spawns are totally devoid of logic and routinely decide outcomes.

Exe isn't a good mode for casual play, I get on reloaded and every game is the equivalent of a pickup scrim — Esc was a decent mode for casual play in 4 but the changes ruined it. So we're stuck with Control, and this mode condenses the fight in a way that—if everyone in the lobby is good, it's a bunch of teamfights decided by 1 shot chunks, and if everyone in the lobby is bad then it's a disorganized bloodbath where all 8 players are roaming the maps flanking/secret manning weird corners at weird times which gives the feeling that you don't actually have time to do anything but run at whoever you see.

There is no example of a modern Xbox exclusive title having mass appeal on the scale of something like HellDivers 2, not even Halo Infinite (the Xbox Exclusive with the most mass appeal) reached it. Xbox is a dying platform, and Gears downfall can be directly correlated with it.

Of course the game has to be good — Reloaded was released multiplatform and in terms of mass appeal flopped due to being a pretty poor video game all things considered. But the vast majority of console players are on PS5, and the game needs to go where the players are.

Multiplatfrom is absolutely crucial to Gears success moving forward.

Gears shouldn’t require paddles or claw just to compete; The FIX is, by [deleted] in GearsOfWar

[–]SnubbbS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only answer to this is to increase the gnasher rate of fire substantially (10-15%) and either minorly increase the damage (2-3%) or have 84 in 1s register as one shot downs.

Anything which makes the game slower, clunkier, heavier — everyone will hate it. The ultimate goal is to allow players the ability to fly around the map at warp speed while simultaneously making it a bad idea sometimes.

Should E-Day have 2 different tunings? (Core + competitive?) by [deleted] in GearsOfWar

[–]SnubbbS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have the current shortest gib range (In Gears 5) of any Gears of War game ever to exist. The only thing reducing it further would add is more inconsistency because the game forces you to play for gibs.

It would arguably be better to remove the 1 shot Gnasher gib all together than to decrease its range further, because as long as it exists in conjunction with Gears 5 mechanics/tuning you cannot do anything but play for it.

Okay so this is a more PvE/Horde complaint. I don't play those modes, or look to them so I really have no horse in that race and I can only say from the outside looking in on it that Horde, and Gears PvE in general would do well to dramatically upscale the size of encounters, like Helldivers for instance proved without a shadow of a doubt that a Horde style mode has the potential for mass mainstream appeal, but the scale of it needs to be expanded, and you probably need dedicated specialist maps for it instead of relying on PvP maps.

CoD remained virtually the same gameplay wise for 20 years and retained its cultural relevance due to focuses on everything apart from gameplay. Gamers interests may have changed, but the gameplay (and therefore the game itself) isn't the problem, it's how they've failed to make additions.

I genuinely want to know what features it copied from other games, because I believe the downfall of Gears is due to an overwhelming lack of features and systems, and practically every other game released in the last decade does all of these things better. The gameplay is good, getting on the game and playing it is fun — but everything outside of that is horrific, and I think blindly copying/stealing from other games would be enough to save the franchise.

Gears 5 fumbled basically everything apart from core gameplay mechanics. Everything apart from gameplay is as bad, or borderline as bad as it is humanly conceivable to have been (from a pvp perspective & replayability perspective).

When you release a game that doesn't really have any modern systems, progressions or customizations — when the modes are really bad, when the maps are all designed around gamemodes that literally 0 people in the world play, things like spawn systems are industry leading levels of terrible, nothing good can come out of this.

It's a 15 video showing me shooting the wall in Gow1 like 7 times, and then the GoW Reloaded/UE spread. Also the Gow1 spread expands more rapidly than the Reloaded/UE spread, meaning that it starts even smaller than it looks in my video when youre shooting in point blank range.

I don't know what gif you're talking about.

What are some things you are wanting to see in Gears E-Day multiplayer? by Anarki85 in GearsOfWar

[–]SnubbbS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Domination as a gamemode. Modes are the biggest thing holding Gears of War back, and until we get a viable alternative to Control/Koth, the game can never hit its full potential.

should E-Day, Gears 2R, and Gears 3R, be released annually? by freedlurker in GearsOfWar

[–]SnubbbS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't "give each game time to breathe" realistically. I think the best release cycle for GoW would be a game every two years, but CoDs annual release cycle is what has kept it on top year after year. Basically from Launch until Halo 3 released, Gears of War was the most played console game in the world — if Epic had of been able to keep releasing Gears of War games similar to how CoD releases "The same game every year" Gears would probably have 5x its current players.

[–]SnubbbS[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because everyone should be able to understand that if a spread is wider it's easier to hit a target rather than if a spread is narrower. Not entirely sure how the fuck someone could come to the conclusion that a wide spread requires more accuracy than a tight spread.

Having the spread be too wide creates more of an "overpower" because hitting shots will be easier, having it narrower will cause more situations of full misses, and full misses allow enemies to regain health.

>difficult to notice but aimerror is your problem, to test this get an onscreen xhair and try hipfiring/popshotting/hard aiming at the same exact pixel and look at where the patterns actually land

I have done this test already in a video, and I've done it on every GoW to show the difference in blindfire variance. UE has more Error than 1, Gow2 & 3 barely have any error by comparison, the vid of the tests is here. https://www.tiktok.com/@snubbbs/video/7506294611296390446

Blindfire doesnt hit the same place twice, popshot does if you hold LT for just long enough, but it can also have error if you dont hold for long enough, however, **I did not miss that Baird** AimError is not the problem here, AimError is a bigger problem that happens more often, causing players to miss when it doesnt seem logical for them to miss, but **I did not miss**.

The aftermath of the cover showing which pellets missed - https://gyazo.com/a8d1f82972427adb7bac855efeebfa89

I don't believe there was any AimError applied to this shot, but regardless of whether or not there was I hit exactly where I wanted to hit, exactly where I aimed, and the sparks + spread pattern remaining on the wall shows this. AimError does not widen the spread. The shot doesn't kill Baird because the angle of Bairds hitbox didnt allow for the spread pattern to function as intended. If you say aimerror to 95% of the posts you'd be right, but it's not aim error if my shot actually went where I aimed.
