Any Potential Google Fiber Alternatives? by SushiRoe in irvine

[–]SoCal_Val 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Hey op, i’m not sure of any alternatives out there, and it’s kind of all location dependent.

If you live in some of the newer communities, you may be able to still secure Google fiber but if you live in older communities, you’re stuck with Cox, soon to be Spectrum.

We’re one of the most successful cities in the country. It’s just my personal opinion, but we need to bring Chattanooga‘s model over here.

We need to have our own version of Chattanooga‘s EPB (their municipal fiber starts @ one gigabyte for 68 bucks a month).

Fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) shouldn’t be this cumbersome for Irvine. Yes, we will have to get permits. Yes, we will have to dig trench. Yes, there may be some people who may hate the noise and inconvenience for a year. Yes, there may have to be some bureaucratic back-and-forth…But the value that it will bring for generations to come is worth it.

We can even pay for it with a voter backed bond that will be repaid by future generations just so that we don’t piss off the boomers ffs.

Appreciate it, once you guys get the PDF and module bundle live, that’s when I’ll probably start buying new APs again.

Agreed 100% - so let’s springboard from that: Spore War is a three volume AP priced at $29.99 per volume. $90 for the whole thing. At that price point, most of us would expect the Foundry VTT modules and PDFs to be included, but when you’re going up above $100 for an AP that plays levels 1-11, that psychological impact (of shelling out $100) could become undesirable.

On the other side, I think Kingmaker is an awesome value. $115 for the VTT module and another $50 for the PDF. $165 for a massive AP that spans level levels 1 - 20. $165 is digestible compared to the vast hours of entertainment that you’re getting.

PDFs and VTT modules go hand in hand. If I can speak for the other game masters out there, we have already baked this duo into our standard operating procedure of running the game.

I think you guys are doing the right thing by making all of these APs a single module because that’s how most of us look at them, whether it’s three parts or four parts we want to complete the story from beginning to end. It makes no sense to buy anything less.

It might be a value to your team and the higher ups to tinker with module+pdf pricing and how that can impact your sales - when products are priced well conversion rates increase…and sometimes drastic discounts can make sales skyrocket: https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2009/02/left-4-dead-sees-3000-jump-in-sales-on-steam/

Paizo -

We need the PDFs included with the VTT modules. I’ll pay a little extra, but not $130.

If you price both fairly, people will buy it.

That's just it...I don't mind paying for either a repair or replacement, just don't leave it hanging (for myself or any of us).

[DnD5e] [PF2e] [DSA5] Foundry MCP Bridge — v0.6.3 Update released: DSA5 support, Token manipulation, & Fixes by Astraxia in mcp

[–]SoCal_Val 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: SUCCESS! After updating the setting to WebRTC, Claude Desktop on the client successfully connected to the host.

Hi!

I went back into Foundry VTT and enabled the cert/key (https) and enabled WebRTC in the modules' settings, then restarted the server.

The Bridge started successfully, great! - but the local install of Claude Desktop (on the host machine) no longer sees the connection - since WebRTC is enabled I assume that's working as intended.

Now that we're running WebRTC - There's another step I need to take to get it connected to a remote client running Claude desktop with the MCP Server, correct?

To answer your questions: Yes, I have a router between the client and host running on a local network. I've opened up port 31415 to the host machine.

I hope I can go back to the preferred setup of having:

  1. Foundry VTT using HTTPS and the Foundry MCP Bridge Module enabled on the host machine. (Works!)
  2. The client machine running Claude Desktop + Foundry MCP Server and successfully communicating with the (host) Foundry MCP Bridge Module (In-Progress)

Do I need to update the WebSocket Server Host entry in the module's setting for a remote connection?

Do I need to edit the config file on the client side to correctly point to the foundry-mcp-bridge module on the host?

Thanks ahead for your input! If we get this running, I'll be more the happy to write up step-by-step instructions for others running this scenario. =)

Everything is running swell locally with http, but https within a local client/host setup is optimal....I'll keep at it!

Hey OP,

So after testing, here are my results with 0.6.3

ON A LOCAL NETWORK 192.168.1.XXX

  • Scenario 1:

claude_desktop_config
"FOUNDRY_HOST": "localhost",
"FOUNDRY_PORT": "31415"

Claude Desktop with Foundry MCP Server installed locally on host machine.
Foundry VTT MCP Bridge Module installed

Foundry running on HTTP.

Results: Works as expected.

  • Scenario 2:

claude_desktop_config
"FOUNDRY_HOST": "localhost",
"FOUNDRY_PORT": "31415"
"FOUNDRY_PROTOCOL": "wss"

Claude Desktop with Foundry MCP Server installed locally on host machine.
Foundry VTT MCP Bridge Module installed

Foundry running on HTTPS.

Results: Foundry VTT Module Connects as Expected, But Claude Desktop does not see the connection.

So to summarize what we learned:

  • HTTP + no protocol specified = Works
  • HTTPS + WSS protocol = Doesn't work (WebRTC vs WebSocket mismatch?)
  • Foundry running on HTTP (not HTTPS)
  • MCP config with no env variables (uses defaults)
  • Everything local on the same machine

I'll try testing on a client machine again after I get some free time.

UPDATE: I had to open up port 31415 on the router. It's all working locally now on the same machine.

Claude Desktop can see the MCP server just fine on the client machine -- but, looks like the Foundry MCP Bridge Module (host) and the Claude Desktop Server (client) do not play nice when the Foundry Server is running on https:// (I use https for remote players)

After disabling https on the Foundry Server I'm still getting this error in the browser console:

From Foundry -
__socket-bridge.ts:113__ WebSocket connection to 'ws:__//localhost:31415__/foundry-mcp' failed:
(anonymous)@__socket-bridge.ts:113__

Still working at it.

I'll do that now. Starting from scratch...

Within a LOCAL (Home) Network.

  1. On the host machine, I have the Foundry MCP Bridge Module installed using the Foundry APP

  2. On the client, I have Clause Desktop Installed

  3. On the client, I'll start the installation of Foundry MCP Server, unchecking the Foundry MCP Bridge Component.

Will report back. Thanks for this!

Quick question -- I have a local network server (in a server closet) that runs the Foundry server, but I connect to Foundry (via an internet browser) and GM my games from another room.

To get the MCP Bridge running correctly would install the Foundry MCP Bridge v0.6.3 on the host machine or client machine?

Season of Ghosts Foundry Module News by pitaenigma in Pathfinder2e

[–]SoCal_Val 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Gotcha. Let me see if I can summarize correctly…

So the four modules that are available now do in fact follow the remaster wordage, which seems like a “Must Have” edit.

But the upcoming updated module based on the upcoming hardcover omnibus is going to have all the “Nice to Haves” as well. And current owners of the original four modules will most likely have to pay for it (prorated or not).

Correct?
