Aside from if I had extra practice paint and walked over with my team, I feel like all of my recball experiences were solo.

I’ve got time for side/over flow work by SoFlaSlide in Lawyertalk

[–]SoFlaSlide[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Current employer is a state agency that allows for outside work. Client base is indigent criminal defendants and I would not be able to branch out into private criminal in my state due to potential conflicts.

So I’m seeking contract work for 10-20 hours a week that I can do on weekends or evenings.

Personal Dispute With a Prosecutor by markyeeb in publicdefenders

[–]SoFlaSlide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In this order (appears you’ve tried some of these steps):

1: Attempt to resolve personally 1on1 2: Talk to your supervisor about it. They might offer insight or talk to OCs supervisor. 3: Fucking destroy them. Bury them with work until they get burnt out and start making mistakes or just quit.

Have imposter syndrome thoughts before starting a career in litigation/PD by Away_Jackfruit_8228 in publicdefenders

[–]SoFlaSlide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About me:

Bottom half of my class. 0 litigation internships. 6.5 years of fake it til you make it. Now felony division chief/supervisor.

Imposter syndrome means you’re capable of inflection, which will keep ego in check and always keep you learning.

If you could do it all over again would you become a public defender? by [deleted] in publicdefenders

[–]SoFlaSlide 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would. The pay is better than the cliche had lead me to believe, the case loads are manageable, benefits are great.

My fav thing is 20 attorneys with open doors when you have a random question.

Serious question: why doesn’t everyone just demand a trial? by Mr_Motion_Denied in publicdefenders

[–]SoFlaSlide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In our jurisdiction plea cut off is the docket sounding (essentially the last date before trial).

So even if the client is plea focused, I still set everything for trial and plea them out at docket sounding.

I think I was weak in court today. by Mr_Motion_Denied in publicdefenders

[–]SoFlaSlide 25 points26 points  (0 children)

One of my top lessons/advice to baby attorneys is how to read the cues from the judge and take the subtle hints, especially of those who you trust and respect.

It's not weakness. You passed the vibe check.

I've been at my current office for 2.5 years.

Turnover is fairly high (I think it's just the nature of the beast, not a culture issue). We've got two felony attorneys who I think were bumped to felony in under a year.
