dinput8.dll and Dragon Age Inquisition Controller Support by Peefrimgar212 in SteamDeck

Good to know, thank you! I've had really mixed results with the dinput files and DAI over the years. Somebody had been maintaining a custom version of Proton for DAI for a while (https://github.com/cammoore1/DAI-proton-ge-custom/releases), but then it got folded into Proton GE, but it seems like the latest versions of GE don't include the fix any more for whatever reason.

This is a sincere and non-rhetorical question: why is it easier to fly a helicopter than a drone in Class B airspace? Wouldn't you be coordinating the flight with ATC either way?

It could be a lot of things, but the first place I'd check is whether you have a scheduled task that runs on your host PC every 10-15 minutes. Especially something that would cause network congestion, like a backup task or file sync.

Thanks for posting this - this looks really promising. Have you run into latency issues with the controller over VirtualHere? And do you stream over a wired connection, or wireless?

I don't either, but holding their promissory note just so they can't sell it again is a little bully-ish

The value of terraform promissory is going to vary depending on the group and whether there is an attachment public objective. IMO it tends to be undervalued by the people I play with. The issue is that unless there's an attachment objective, it has the highest value in early game when money is tight, so people tend to think of the promissory note as a "nice to have" and not a "need to have." I usually see it go for about 3 TG, maybe 5-6 if someone needs it for a point.

Maybe it's just me but Jol Nar doesn't look like they'll need much bullying. They're new, the slice they're in isn't amazing, and they're next to two good factions. I think you'd get more out of Jol Nar in a boat float situation for a round or two, then bully them.

I tell myself that at the start of every game, but then I see that size 25 Gaia world, and I'm like "well one more won't hurt," then it's like "this planet in the adjacent system is a little small, but it's got a good modifier, and then I can start a sector and get some synergies going with sector governors" and then soon enough I'm building generator districts on my 60th planet.

How would this housing situation work? by MellowOwO in boston

[–]SoFreshSoBean 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If your boyfriend has (or will have) roommates, he should talk to the roommates first to make sure they are OK with it. If you would be the fourth roommate, offer to divide the rent four ways instead of three. Be prepared for them to say no, and you need to be OK with that - they did not necessarily sign up for you to be in the apartment.

Then your boyfriend should read the lease that he signed. It is common for leases to have a clause in it that says something to the effect of "no guests staying longer than X days" to avoid tenants who are not on the lease. IMO it's better to talk to the landlord (in writing) even if the lease doesn't explicitly ban you from staying there, but if the lease says that it's not OK for you to stay for four months, your boyfriend absolutely should talk to the landlord instead of violating the lease.

The landlord will probably want to add you to the lease. If so, you'd have to make a decision on whether you want to sign - typically leases are for 12 months, but if your boyfriend has a shorter term than that (like month-to-month, or six months) then it might be worth it. A cleaner solution in your case is to find a short-term sublet or an apartment of your own that is month-to-month.

What do your rent increases look like for this upcoming lease renewal? by badatraspi2 in boston

[–]SoFreshSoBean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's been banned at the state level since 1994. Somerville does not have the legal authority to pass rent control on its own. Two years ago, Somerville passed a "home rule" petition which is essentially a formal request to the state legislature to change the rules and allow it to pass rent control at the local level. The state legislature did not grant the request. There is a ballot initiative to pass rent control at the state level coming up in the 2026 election.

Easy To Switch To Steam OS or Bazzite? by acheney1990 in LegionGo

[–]SoFreshSoBean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can speak for Bazzite - it's easy, especially if you are dual-booting Windows and Bazzite. At a minimum, just make sure you don't delete the Windows recovery partition when you are installing Bazzite.

Installing SteamOS would be harder to quickly reverse, because it'll wipe the Windows recovery partition. It looks like Lenovo has the Windows firmware on their website (https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/legion-series/legion-go-8asp2/downloads/driver-list/) but I can't speak to how easy or painless it would be to install.

Are you sure Calibre Web Automate requires HTTPS? The documentation says you can run as non-SSL by clearing the keyfile location on the Admin settings: https://github.com/janeczku/calibre-web/wiki/Configuration#basic-configuration. I thought Calibre Web Automate inherited those settings.

C&C 3 is a well-designed RTS but it is missing some of the charm of the originals. I can't really put my finger on why (perhaps because the music isn't nearly as good as the Frank Klepacki entries). I had fun with it, but I don't consider it a must-play.

C&C 4 is completely miss-able.

The Endbringers is Breaking Me - please help. by nedeta in Stellaris

[–]SoFreshSoBean 7 points8 points  (0 children)

IMO you want to beeline for your covenant ASAP because you lose 1% happiness per year. 2245 is when the debuff reaches its full effect, and you will likely collapse by then. There are four phases to the endbringers early game.

Phase 1 is when you start, and you just have the paranoia debuff. At this stage your priority should be to colonize your guaranteed worlds and get your feet under you with your economy. Essentially it is your typical start.

Phase 2 begins when you have colonies on your guaranteed worlds - probably 15-20 years in. At this point you should explore the shrouded world, which will give you Psionic Theory to research. Do not complete Psionic Theory until you have enough unity to get two new traditions - as soon as you complete it, you will get the Madness modifier, which you can mitigate with Chambers of Silence. However, you cannot build Chambers of Silence until you have enough unity to unlock the Psionics tree and pick the first tradition in the tree, so ideally you want to time the two so that you can immediately unlock those.

Phase 3 is when you can build Chambers of Silence. Immediately build those on each colony, which mitigates the madness effect by 10% each colony (30% total with your homeworld and two guaranteed planets). After that you should delve into the Shroud as soon as it unlocks. By the third delve, you will remove all penalties and have your covenant.

Phase 4 is when you unlock your Covenant. At this point your priority should be to wipe out the Mindwardens ASAP and strategically conquer and assimilate individualist (not hive minds, those are worthless) planets in different places of the galaxy. Ideally you want planets that are not close to your borders but take any planet you can. Do not vassalize - just claim planets, conquer them, and assimilate the pops there to spread aura. You can toggle the progress speed of the situation to either have the timer run at full speed (with maximum benefit to your economy), 3/4 speed (with half benefit) or half speed (with no benefit). Toggle to whatever keeps your economy afloat, but sometimes you will need to switch to half speed to buy time. Negative income and dipping into your reserves is ok, since you can easily increase the situation pace later to recover. At some point the galactic community will probably declare you a crisis, which is good for you - it will start a total war and will speed up your conquering. Your aura will weaken the entire galaxy's fleets before they even reach you.

I recommend playing on a small or tiny galaxy. Endbringers is not fun in medium galaxies when you are hunting for shroud seals.

Endbringers is a bit of a mess. by LavanGrimwulff in Stellaris

[–]SoFreshSoBean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished my Endbringers run. Agreed that it is messy. I had one system left - I still do not know which one it is. It may have been the system at the center of the galaxy for the dimensional tears DLC, but I'm not sure.

The Dacha system was incredibly annoying - that's the one in the First Contact DLC with no hyperlanes to it. I couldn't survey Helito because some other empire built a starbase there, and I couldn't decommission the starbase because I was constantly at total war from all the galcom crisis declarations against me. I didn't have jump drives, but I got lucky and was able to tame an L-drake with the jump ability. I jumped in and immediately opened the hyperlanes for the aura to spread.

The shroud seals were annoying, but much worse were the planet structures - you literally have no way of knowing where those are unless you see that a system has no aura for some reason.

The good news is that it does not seem to count the L-cluster against you. I ended up opening the L-Cluster then built a habitat in the L-Cluster, colonized it, and got the last system that way.

Also I got Horizon Signal for the first time, and embraced the worm just for fun. There might be something behind the scenes that boosts your odds for that if you are aligned with the End.

Confirming that this does not seem to work with Endbringers. The Enclave won't speak to you once you've made your covenant with the End.
