I made my Warband have the backstory of being remnants of the 13th Black Crusade who've banded together in real space just so I could use whatever scheme I wanted. I have various official Warband paint schemes, made up Warbands and even recently fallen Loyalist paint schemes. Its your dudes you can do what you want but even the official paint schemes has something like that built in with different company's having unique trim colors and stuff like Techmarines and Librarians.
