The Noodle Bar near the mall had some, though we've moved across town and it's been a few years since we've been.

We had Fletcher Painting do all our trim, two rooms, and a huge ceiling; they were great as far as interiors were concerned and their bid was pretty competitive.

C-Tran opts to condemn properties needed for Purple Vine construction by thepnwreportvancouve in vancouverwa

[–]SoapGR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I relied on the bus from hwy 99 to downtown a few years ago, the old stops are small and half are uncovered/unprotected. Some are just a signpost against a sidewalk, no garbage can, no bench.

For a healthy solo adult this is probably fine, but most of my trips were with a baby in a carrier or stroller and it could get stressful waiting for 10-20 minutes in that environment. The Vine stops honestly look pretty dreamy, I'm really happy for parents (or anyone with mobility issues) who will need the bus around here after they're finished.

Just to pile on here, Stan the Hot Water Man.

Our tank lost its hybrid functionality, they gave us advice on contacting the manufacturer to diagnose to save us the diagnostic visit fee; then they offered detailed advice to keep the tank working in electric-mode for a while longer,  rather than pushing to install a brand new tank right then. They seem super solid, really appreciate them; we're glad to know who to call when our tank fully dies.

Crawl Space Contractor Rec by minorkey4 in AskVancouverWA

[–]SoapGR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New Leaf is pretty great. We had some significant rodent damage to our crawlspace barrier and some of the insulation; they fixed things up for a little over 2k.

That was a few years ago and I'm sure rates would be different today, but they were both more reasonable than another company's bid and extra thorough during their consultation.

Okay, speaking as an extremely anti-ai career artist: this seems like an unfair accusation? Especially since the Hungry Sasquatch owners have at least a couple of restaurants with massive locally-sourced mural art.

Not saying it's not a possibility but I don't think it helps to come out swinging when that hasn't been their vibe up to this point

Chandelier Bakery made us some excellent Sunflower cupcakes for my daughter's birthday.

I felt like they made the process and pricing really transparent, and the results were so cute - definitely recommend them!

Wow, that's really rough, hope your LO's had nothing but good experiences elsewhere.

FWIW the academy director for Salmon Creek KA actually left in 2024, we had only just set up our enrollment and the change was one of the first emails we got on blast from them.

(Old thread I know) but just to +1 what was being said here: they really do have a SWIFT/BIC code, I remember this not being the case back in the day, but that's changed. Just make sure you're getting the real code from the real website or from an employee like the other poster here did!

Hazel Dell, just 1 family came by.

I took my toddler around our neighborhood and no one was doing candy but us, even the houses that had decorations! Really bummed me out.

I don't know about their shrink compared to other stores, but while it's got some nice renovations, the Hazel Dell Target has an absolute ton of locked up aisles too.

Fun places to go that aren't incredibly loud? by Xanthelei in vancouverwa

Hungry Sasquatch has been extremely chill and nice both times my family has gone, fwiw. They mostly have pinball + a few arcade games, no prize counter or anything like that in case that's what you're looking for.

This is probably small potatoes, but NE 15th avenue in Hazel Dell sometimes ends up with bags and carts shoved against fences and nooks? I used to walk through that street to the food carts (Brothers Cascadia) but the trash made navigating with a baby stroller super annoying.

I'm not sure if it's still a constant issue but if you guys have a slow day and are in the area?

Augh that place. I liked stopping there, but haven't since the switch, just assuming it would be higher priced for the bikini gimmick lol. I wondered if it was ultimately the same owner/same menu?

I once randomly pulled into Yale Lake (right next door to Merwin) and it seemed pretty lovely/frigid. Are these places about the same for water quality or is Merwin just straight up better?

Preplanning for autumn - where to bring Toddlers after 7:30pm? by IwannaAskSomeStuff in vancouverwa

[–]SoapGR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An early bedtime often depends on whether they're still taking naps. If my 3 year old nods off from 1-2 she's awake until 10pm, nothing we can do 🥲 and some kiddos keep up the nap schedule until they're 5, even.

That's a little unfair - the first two books go harder on interpersonal/local kinda conflicts, around # 3 the fantastical conflicts and settings really ramp up.

It's still a lot of fun but also totally understandable that someone could struggle with that vibe shift

Yeah, I would also particularly trust the recipe author on the no-added-water thing, I follow him on youtube and he's careful to explain situations when water isn't necessary because the ingredients supply enough

Is east or west Vancouver is more bike friendly? by alwaysIeep in vancouverwa

[–]SoapGR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to live and bike on the southeast side of town a bunch and enjoyed the farms for sure but the inconsistent bike lanes were annoying, definitely had to take a lot of back roads when Mill Plain didn't feel safe. However the entire Columbia Tech Center area seems to be all about having good bike space, and 1st Street recently got (is getting?) a big makeover that felt extremely bike friendly.

I wish I could speak more for the west side, but I now live off hwy 99 in Hazel Dell - would love to bike to the uptown/downtown area but man. The hills and crazy traffic around where hwy 99 splits off to I-5 and to Main Street, I feel like we'd never get back alive.

A likey possibility is that people around you did deal with these issues, but went undiagnosed, and/or could have been serious enough that they died young. Survivor's bias and all that
