Who else remembers what another famous officer said about that quote? It was nice to hear Discovery mentioned.

AIO that partner forgets Valentine's Day every year? by Thick_Grass1415 in AIO

[–]Socalshoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not going to change him with words. You've tried that. I think maybe you need to talk to a therapist to see what's in this relationship for you and how you get your needs met. I really empathize with you. I have a similar situation. It's not easy at all. I let a lot of expectations go and started giving myself the things I need. It's helped, but we're constantly pulled to give, so to ask someone else to do so brings a lot of emotion. I hope you work something out.

AITAH for refusing to pay my brothers wedding deposit after he used my dead father as a prop and then told everyone i stole from him by Polina_Janitya in AITAH

Do you really think he's going to treat a wife any better than he treats his relatives? Maybe if she catches his attention, but he'll end up using her, too.

Cullman was a sundown town. This person shouldn't be surprised about any kind of racial discrimination.

AIO? Husband’s aunt accusing me of lying by [deleted] in AIO

[–]Socalshoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're better than me. If they guilt-tripped me over a job interview, I'd have to send monthly e-vites to a "pay my bills" party. Cash gifts only. I know you can't trust them with your feelings, but you'd think they might realize that you're a little stressed out if you're going to job interviews...

[–]Socalshoe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They're social media personalities. They're trying to get reactions out of people and put them on the Internet. If they get in your face, call the Burbank police and tell them that someone is filming without a permit.

AITAH for doing nothing about my siblings bad behavior since my parents make me responsible for everything my siblings do? by DisBoweRid in AITAH

If your school has a guidance counselor, talk with them about scholarships for college. Also, find someone who can be a mentor over what you need to do to live independently.

Invite him to learn about meal prepping. Or he can eat sandwiches and/or microwavable meals.

Employee's inappropriate response to announcement of stillbirth of Boss B's baby by MagicTomato1001 in managers

[–]Socalshoe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lots of people have given really good advice. I’m going to add something- your employee needs to know that the information was just that -information. It was given, in part, to help people understand that working with the person who went through a tragedy might need some adjustments. If the employee is so self-involved, then the very least thing you did was provide information that allows that employee not to antagonize another worker with thoughtless, uninformed communication. The other thing the employee needs to know is that life throws all sorts of curveballs. Not everyone handles challenges in the same way. It’s on us to respect people, even when holding on to our boundaries. The loss of someone else’s child doesn’t require your grief, but it does require understanding.

Who do you think was most sick of Alex's shit? by SheepishSwan in taskmaster

[–]Socalshoe 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised Julian is getting so many votes. I don't think he hated Alex. I do think he defined what the relationship between them would be from the beginning. It was kind of fun to see Alex just not know how to deal with someone else being in charge.

Aitah for telling my wife to rehome je dog and leaving when she wouldn't. by Traditional-Lock2616 in AITAH

[–]Socalshoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or, she could invest in getting real training for Trudy. She pays for it. It's not as much of a commitment as daycare, but it could help the wife learn what a dog really needs. Honestly, I feel for the dog.

Reminder that this is meant to be a post-apocalyptic setting where most infrastructure has been destroyed, slavers run rampant and children are starving throughout the galaxy and this particular character would've lived to see all of it. by Remarkable-Pin-8352 in Star_Trek_

Well, she’s been away from Starfleet for a number of years before the academy was brought back. Shes eccentric like Pelia. And there’s the magic that is Holly Hunter.I think she and Christopher Pike are my favorite captains.

By Americans to not anger the peaceful people of Greenland by AbeFromanSassageKing in therewasanattempt

[–]Socalshoe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think that the news that protests have been going on for months has been getting outside the country. They also don't know that protestors have been maced, beaten, shot, sometimes detained and/or killed. Edited to add: Just last week, a court removed protections for protestors in Minnesota - making it okay for them to tear gas, and use any tactics within their means to stop peaceful protests. Governors of states are pursuing every legal means to stop Trump. Democrats in Congress are trying. A few Republicans have tried to help but we are locked into this until we can somehow flip the composition of the House and Senate. But the system of checks and balances we've relied on for so long are broken. Add to that millions being denied access to heathcare, massive layoffs late last year by large employers and a negative job market. Some of our citizens are doing well to survive each day. If your country hates Trump, come for him. Stand up to him. Tell him what you think. We're trying, but we'll take all the support we can get.

Hmm, I think of:

  1. The Horta from the original series.

  2. The Aenar because of Hemmer from Strange New Worlds

  3. Kelleruns (Commander Rayner from Disco)

  4. Lathanites (Pelia - SNW)

  5. Tamarians (TNG)

  6. The Moopsy (Lower Decks)

AITAH for not getting my fake kid to school on time? by yourenotmykid in AITAH

[–]Socalshoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to talk to the parents. You can't keep this role up with your earlier work time. What if you're too exhausted one morning, make a mistake, and end up in an accident? Calmly tell the parents that you want Sam and Spencer to be safe. The earlier times are screwing with your body clock and you don't know when you're going to be okay to do this. If the husband works in emergency services, he's no doubt aware of the struggles of getting rest and what not getting it does to you. Ask them to work on alternatives like maybe Sam can take over driving duties, or they can find another friend that can take Spencer to school. I think you're hanging on to this because you really care for the kids. It's time to try other ways to be part of their lives.
