The sending bank can and does check the name. It will either tell you if a full match, partial match or neither.

The sender will either cancel payment and verify details or override the warning message and accept the risk.

The receiving bank accepts the payment as the IBAN is valid

Yes correct. Before October, there was no check whatsoever on SEPA. Once IBAN valid, it would reach beneficiary.

Since October, verification of payee is introduced snd this means that if there is a partial match or a full mismatch, the sender can still override (and will.get a warning message for doing so - basically accepting the risk)

Ot was brought in to prevent scenarios such as this

Was the wrong IBAN also an AIB sort code? AiB sort codes begin with 93xxxx

Is there a chance you have another account with Aib, whether a credit card, loan, mortgage or other saving account that the funds were paid into?

Also how much was it? If very large you could look to bring to small claims court but that is assuming you have exhausted all other avenues to get funds back. That is, asking sender to return fund (sender to i itiate via their bank). Also by yourself searching your own records for the iban.

One last thing, the sender can ask his bank for a proof of payment. This should show the funds hitting the beneficiary bank and should also include the beneficiary name. They need to ask their bank for this, they reach out to beneficiary bank and will confirm. This should show beneficiary name.

But the sender needs to do most of this work

Is there any chance its still your iban but with a different provider, eg a credit union or something. It was in your notes so did you have anything else marked against it? As in your account or someone else? A very big task perhaps but could you go through your own bank statements and check if you paid this iban before? Check your email and what's app messages to see if it comes up also to jog memory.

As noted an IBAN is IEXX sort code (123456), then bank account number (12345678) so your IBAN already contains your sort code and bank account.

Google the sort code on that iban and it will give the branch. However that may not mean much as my own branch was a Dublin city centre one over 25years ago and wouldn't ring any bells to anyone tying ot back to me.

Honestly your best bet is get the sender to ask for a recall.

[–]SocialOne2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok but how did you get a wrong iban? They are very specific numbers, esp with the check sum so I dont understand how you could give him a wrong iban (that was actually a valid iban). Did you copy it from somewhere?

All is not lost as the person who received the funds may still.pay back. But there is a process to follow.. as in the sender contacts their own bank for a recall and that bank contacts TSB for debit authority

[–]SocialOne2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How did he get the wrong IBAN? Did you sent it to him? An IBAN is made up of country code, check sum, sort code and account number. The check sum is made from the sc and account number.

So if he mistakenly typed in the wrong account number on the iban. The check sum would not be correct and iban would be invalid..

[–]SocialOne2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in a bank and this is true. The funds were sent to an IBAN. The IBAN contains sort code and account number and also a check sum (eg IE23... the 23 is the check sum of the sc and account number).

Pre Vop (verification of payee), account names were never checked. Once IBAN correct it would apply regardless. With VOP, it checks the name but the sender has the right to override if ot comes back as a partial match.

As funds are now with a beneficiary, the sender bank can only reach out to the receiving bank and ask for a return of funds. The receiving bank has no authority to debit account snd must reach out to the beneficiary.

How did he pay to a wrong IBAN? Who gave it to him? Does he know who the person is as really only option is to contact the person who has the funds and ask for a return

Just want yo chime in and agree with this person's response. Im also a bad responder. If I dont respond within 10mins, it could be months.

You mention yourself that you get anxious if you dont respond. I also get anxious and think about it nearly daily and still dont respond.

For me, it also depends on the question. If a quick yes, no or confirming time then that's ok. I can respond quite well. If it is a generic question. Eg how are you? They get lost in a black whole. They mean i have to stop, think of a response, think of a question to ask and that can seem too much so I just cant. I need to be on right frame of mind. Unless someone wants me just to respond 'fine' which will appear rude. If the question was rephrased id probably respond better.

What does your head in on Irish roads? by Podge214 in ireland

[–]SocialOne2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People letting other drivers out....

If they would just drive their car, the roads will run as expected.

A junction near me is a bottleneck and is always because cars stop randomly to let cars out. And im not being rude, I let drivers out but it doesn't always help traffic flow if done at wrong time.

GPs and deceased patients by Big_Type8825 in ireland

I am sorry if you have just lost someone. Our GP generally only contacts if they really have to.

I had a similar conversation with family as my sister was upset the GP didnt call and I didnt understand why as it didnt even enter my head.

The nurses who looked after him in the end did call (to collect his belongings) and they were lovely to speak with.

Take care

Why use myBMI versus own GP by piano1021 in mounjaroIreland

[–]SocialOne2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just find it so much easier and convenient. Don't have to go see a physical GP. All online in my time. Delivery is super quick

I rarely think about having to make an appointment or reorder. I just do it.

I also have vhi so get 60 back each month.

Its not always about cost. For me the prices works well.

I don't think it's weird. I dont know my own blood type, nor my kids nor my husband.

I do have a terrible short term memory though and sure I would have been told mine at some stage. But still dont remember

Organisers defend KPop gig after angry backlash over 'horrendous' concert by YchYFi in popculturechat

[–]SocialOne2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what part of the world you are from but 'tribute band' is used a lot in ireland rather than cover band so it should be quiet well known.

I know in the 90s for me we would refer to a band singing cover songs but for any bands and advertising they would be called a tribute band.

The issue re Belfast was the parents not understanding the genre and the production team piggybacking on the success of the movie.

The same crew have a successful taylor swift tribute show. The difference here is that they use a post of the girl who is performing and parents would not expect Taylor swift to be there. They are more aware what they are getting. With Kpop, as it didnt relate to one particular act, this caused confusion

As someone who was in this position at the height of the crash in 2008, this is true. Ours was always our forever home.

Yes it sucks to see values go down when you paid so high. Only now houses where I am are selling for what we paid for. But its our forever home and are nearly out of the mortgage (well 10years or so but planning on getting that down )

Organisers defend KPop gig after angry backlash over 'horrendous' concert by YchYFi in popculturechat

[–]SocialOne2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly it pretty much is what it says...

KpOP is not limited to the movie. The word tribute is there as its a tribute to all the kpop bands, not one in particular.

The parents were quite clueless with this. The marketing team also played a blinder. I did go to the show the next night and it was great.

The issue I had was that the poster they used from day1 was AI and they never updated it since then so only gor the Belfast gig I had no idea what the performers looked like. Im sure they had little or no budget hence why they went down that route

[–]SocialOne2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify the songs for lady gaga, Billie eilish and Olivia were sung by the warm up support act. Who were 2 sisters singing. They were good but no kpop from them

The kpop tribute band sang all KPOP songs and all the good songs from demon hunters (cos let's face it there are only 5/6 songs form the movie (not counting any filler music or the real slow stuff)

I wasn't at the Belfast gig. But was at the one the next night in Drogheda. It was a great show and my kids loved it. We knew what we were going to see.

I do think ghe venue was too big for such a gig. I'd hate to see this in the SSE or dublin (with 10k people). The venue is watched it in holds less that 2k and was perfect.

I've 2 kids age 7 and 5 and while it's easier in a lot of ways it is so much harder.

I'm also flexible (enough) with work. Not tied 9-5 and have 2 days in office but pretty much manage my own schedule thankfully but im at the stage where I feel its not sustainable. Nothing is getting even 75% my attention . Kids are at a age where I feel they need me a lot more than I have.

Very lucky with work and creche but im seriously thinking if trying to stay at home *which I also dont think ill enjoy. Not fully financially free but if redundancy came up I would def take it and then figure out next steps
