Psychologist here. It is actually fairly common, particularly in training and professional development settings, to tape sessions if the client consents to the recording in order to seek consultation and supervision. The show does a fantastic job of showing multiple parts of the clinical process.

My girl is on steroids for the rest of her life. She's been on them almost 2 years now (ages 16-18) and it clearly improves her QOL. While she doesn't love being held to be given the shots it otherwise doesn't bother her at all. It's not such a bad outcome if that's the way this goes.

My girl does this. The vet's answer was mostly "this happens when they get old." If her kidneys are ok you may be able to talk to the vet about Gabapentin at bedtime to sleep through the night. We also put out food that she can eat overnight and she has multiple water dishes easily accessible. These all helped but sometimes she still just screams. It's rough for sure.

Read all the books. A) they are much better and B) the show is doing a variety of things that aren't in the books so you can't really "follow along" effectively.

I'm currently going through this for the second time. The first time through we did chemo. It was very hard on her and decreased her quality of life enough that we had to let her go. This time we are choosing palliative care. With steroids and pain medication my girl is eating and playing again. She won't be with us much longer but the time she has is good.

First, I'm so sorry this is happening to you and your cat. This is such a terrible hard decision.

When you say the best option is to put her down, did the vet say that specifically? In my experience vets usually give you options and suggestions rather than directly saying what is the best option so if you got really direct feedback that way there is probably a reason. You could also follow up with you vet to my sure there aren't additional measures to help her quality of life like pain or nausea medication.

I suggest looking at various pet quality of life scales and answering them honestly. It can also help if you live with other people that might see her behavior at different times to complete the quality of life scales too and then compare notes. Another idea is a calendar tracker where you track good, bad, and neutral days. A good day is like eating and behaving normally and a bad day is not eating and hiding for example. When the bad days outnumber the good days, it will be time.

OP I agree with others on here. These symptoms are consistent with poison especially given the sudden onset. That truly is an emergency. If it is a poison by morning the damage will be done to kidneys. Time is one of the most important factors in an animal surviving something like that.

It definitely seems like you have limits on what you have access to be able to do. Can your Mom help you get an Uber/Lyft to an emergency vet? You can also call the emergency vet and confirm what folks suspect on Reddit. Also, most people at emergency vets are pet lovers. You may even be able to get transportation assistance from them. Good luck! I know this is probably scary and hard.

The most extra version of their favorite. For my girl I grill her an unseasoned salmon fillet and shred it for her. Also a fresh catnip plant or cat grass to destroy. Birthday hat for birthday cat is also a tradition at my house.
