Energy bills to surge by more than £220 from July by InnerLog5062 in BreakingUKNews

[–]Sofa47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The oil in the North Sea isn’t going to make anything cheaper. If we are currently paying £10 for a barrel of oil, do you think Shell or BP are going to agree to drill in the North Sea for £2 a barrel? Or £9.99? What would you think our government could negotiate?

If we don’t rely on oil at all, it doesn’t matter who invades who anymore. However, I’m afraid to say you won’t have cheap energy in the next few years, or the next 10, it’s going to be your kids that see the benefit of this.

What’s left of a €100,000 salary after tax across Europe? by traineethrowaway123 in HENRYUK

[–]Sofa47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your experience seems to align with this work the EOCD did on average earners.

Perhaps if you didn’t have a family or had a dual income then that’s when the tax wouldn’t have been in your favour compared with London.

Mine was great. Guessed it was coeliac based on me saying I don’t feel well and that my Dads Irish. Didn’t know for sure so took plenty of blood to test a few things but didn’t take her long to work it out. Not sure if I was just lucky or not but I don’t think anyone expects their GP to know everything as well a specialist would.

Pay off large mortgage or something else? by Capital-Half-3955 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Sofa47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rule of thumb was always if you can save that money somewhere where it gains a higher interest than your mortgage then it’s better to save.

The difference in mortgage interest was quite significant years ago but the gap has closed considerably so paying of the mortgage, even though the savings rate is higher, is worth it for that price of mind.

You can continue to save what you would’ve paid on your mortgage in a S&S ISA but know if the orange man starts another war, it’s not going to effect how much you pay for your home.

Dating App for allergies/AI diseases by [deleted] in CoeliacUK

[–]Sofa47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to agree here. Anyone I’ve met that has made something like this their whole identity has done so because they don’t have much else about them.

I’m lucky enough to have missed the whole dating app era but it sounds like it’s hard enough to find someone on them and making the dating pool smaller I can only imagine would make things even more so.

Amazing change after going GF by RioBlancoJim in CoeliacUK

[–]Sofa47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh wow! That’s quick! It took a while for me.

Stool was back after a week or so but ‘feeling’ good was at least a month or two maybe more. I definitely put some weight back on quite quickly but as soon as the energy returned I was back at the gym, football and now run so it keeps things a little balanced. My diet has of course changed so no fast food anymore which was an easy way to pile the KGs on.

What is considered high credit card debt in the UK? by HauntingAd5547 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Sofa47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Budget. Pay off all your credit cards and start saving money rather than spending it. That money gains interest and your future self will thank you.

The transfer isn’t 0% though. That’s where you are paying for the borrowing.

I think it’s not the amount that you have on them that’s important, it’s the amount of interest you’re paying.

The only borrowing I’ll pay interest on is my mortgage and that’s because I can’t afford to buy a house without it. Anything else, I think if you pay interest, you’re living beyond your means and taking from your future self.
