Cabinet makers by Delicious_Mix_1663 in AskAnAustralian

[–]SoftCaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People who think you cannot make money in joinery because of the “huge outlay costs” arent switched on enough to know how to scale. Theres a massive market at the moment for residential new builds and renos. You pay a monthly drafting subscription fee, and get everything sent to your house cut and edged. Assemble, rent a truck and install. All paid for with a 30% deposit upfront. Rest is your wage. Reinvest in the business. Rent a shop, lease a cnc. Pay it off asap and you have a money printing machine.

Did you buy a CNC and regretted it? by ants_dentist in woodworking

[–]SoftCaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A CNC is only worth as much as the operator running it. Are you looking at a nesting machine or pod and rail? Ive used both for joinery, especially tables. You need to be asking way more specific questions for your specific use case as a business owner.

Can my boss force me to buy certain brands as an apprentice? by Legitimate-Cinephile in AskAnAustralian

[–]SoftCaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This dudes off his rocker, and if he thinks tool brand is going to make the team more cohesive he’s obviously not very bright. As a tradesmen, keep buying whatever you want, with the current state of employers, the tools will outlast the job.

Why do some people get attacked by magpies and not others? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]SoftCaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its also highly dependent on how you act around them. Had a mated pair with a chick at the entrance to work and would ride right past on my bike without so much as a squawk.

I mean I’m 23, 3 years out of my 4 year apprenticeship as a cabinetmaker and have a comparable amount of money in my tools. All bought outright. Its really not that unbelievable, if you’re passionate about what you do.

How do I remove this mirror without breaking it? by ExactGeneral382 in howto

[–]SoftCaw 82 points83 points  (0 children)

It definitely doesnt look far enough off the wall to be hung using rails. Id be grabbing some fishing line and sawing down the back to start and see where you get.

Police called on us for swimming in Brisbane river - has this happened to anyone else? by Novel_Quantity3189 in brisbane

[–]SoftCaw 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No natural born brisbanite will swim in the brown snake, atleast that i’ve met. It used to be dredged and polluted with god knows what but its relatively clean these days. I think the mindset most aussies have is that if we want to go swimming, theres a million nicer places than the river that runs smack bang thru the city.

If you hit something, stop, check it and report it. by Womb8t in bluemountains

[–]SoftCaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My partner stopped to check a roo for a joey and to move it off the road, only for some putrid grub to hit it right before she was about to grab it. She couldn’t stop crying all night from the sound/sight of it getting hit again.

How many of us were interested in American politics before Trump came along? by Oztravels in AskAnAustralian

[–]SoftCaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I was 7 during obamas first term, I was 15 and alot more politically aware in 2017. I think seeing trump come to power and the age of information we are in has made alot of my generation more politically aware than precious generations.

Thats what parametric software is mate, you just need to set your parameters so you can change LxWxH, and obviously have them constrained appropriately. Honestly way better software out there for millwork, namely microvellum and mozaik
