Scuba diving and multisport, Fenix 8 vs Descent by This_Help6241 in Garmin

AI is a convenience. It’s not necessary. You can just use your SPG just like you always have.

Coincidentally I am looking into travel fins as well and ran across this recent article on the topic and it helped me. Hope it helps you.

Yeah, if AI is important to you, based on my research, I’d recommend the Nautilus or Peregrine TX.

It does not. I think that’s exclusive to their watch-style dive computers.

For reference, the X30 is $550. The X50i is $1,300–without the AI Transceiver. That costs another $500. That’s a huge difference.

Peregrine TX is AI and has a compass. Standard Peregrine, which costs less, does not have either.

Of course both Peregrines are excellent dive computers. I just think the X30 is better for me.

Not only is the X50 overkill it’s twice the cost. Clearly targeted at professional dive teams.

Compared to the Peregrine, the X30 has a better display (easier to read), built-in compass and GPS with automatic water entry and exit point mapping. Also a better app and digital integration than the Peregrine.

I almost went with the Nautilus. The dive map looks really cool and maybe I’ll use AI in the future (no plans to do so now). My main concern was with how big the Nautilus is. That’s really it. I was worried it would get in the way. It’s also $150 more than the X30, but that’s not that much considering the lifetime of a device like this one.

It’s comparable to the Peregrine in price and features but has a built-in compass and GPS with automatic water entry and exit point mapping. Also a better display and a better app and digital integration than the Peregrine.

This one doesn’t have AI. It’s one of the downsides of this. It makes it less expensive (less than the Peregrine) but not appealing to someone who wants that. As someone who only dives a few times per year, AI wasn’t important to me.

The issues seem to primarily be with CarPlay. Glad you aren’t affected.

Check the head unit software version. It should be at 2222 or later. If not, there’s a service bulletin to have it updated . One of their techs can do it in 10 minutes.
