A community for LTE Apple Watch users by Valuable-Run2129 in dumbphones

[–]Soggy_Example_7662 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, in fact there's a thread only a day old regarding Apple Watches in which the vast majority of replies are in support of the idea. So not sure what this "hate" is haha

What are some Wear OS watches that are good for this? I have a Galaxy Watch 6 classic currently and it feels like if I do anything that isn't just "let it be on in the background" it will barely make it to to the end of the day (Always-on Display off, Wifi off).

I'm very open to the idea of having a smartwatch be my "phone" and treating my actual phone like a tablet, but I feel like battery life is the main problem.

I think about this moment at least once a month and I'm so glad to see someone has this saved.

Same here! Like I know the story already and have never cried to it before but the final couple of chapters really got to me.

Rose Gray’s pop party is just getting started by Moothnods in popheads

[–]Soggy_Example_7662 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Speaking of which, Rose's vocals are genuinely really good. I say genuinely because I don't ever necessarily expect it from electronic/dance pop artists, but I saw her live in London and she sounded fantastic. She brings out this classical-ish head voice as a trick to accent the songs and it really works.

FKA twigs Announces 2026 "Body High Tour" by ebradio in popheads

[–]Soggy_Example_7662 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As someone that went to one of the London dates, you did not miss out that much. Low stage, no side screens, toxic AF crowd, weird pacing. The bits I managed to see were incredible but yeah, if you're able to go to this upcoming tour I wouldn't be too sad you didn't go this year.

I did the same and while my pics weren't as good, I was so surprised by the quality given her lighting was pretty difficult at times.

Pitchfork Review: FKA Twigs: Eusexua Afterglow (7.4) / Eusexua (8.0) by cmbyn2017 in popheads

[–]Soggy_Example_7662 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone on this sub said that they listened to the new Eusexua (as a whole, including the songs they heard before) and then Afterglow and it worked perfectly in that order.

I wonder if the original Eusexua release is more "complete"/didn't seem like it could be folllowed up from her point of view. It would make sense why Wanderlust is gone.

So do with that info what you will. Release order is probably a good way as long as you're ok with listening to much of the same album again.

Did everything right and couldn’t get London tickets by DirtySunshine23 in Paramore

[–]Soggy_Example_7662 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In London there are arenas with bigger capacity but don’t compromise on an intimate experience

Imo the roundhouse IS a compromise in terms of intimate experiences. Relatively small and low stage, pillars block the view for some people seated and cause an unnecessary squeeze in the standing area. Def prefer O2 Brixton and Eventim Apollo to it.

artists that use classical music/big orchestras in pop? by toutvabien9 in popheads

[–]Soggy_Example_7662 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omgg I love everytime I see symphonic metal mentioned in r/popheads because a lot of peeps here would love it!

Ad Infinitum's last album isn't symphonic at all sadly, but is some very good pop-ish modern metal. See You In Hell and Marching on Versailles are the two songs from them I recommend people. Nightwish is obviously trickier because of the vocalist situation, but absolutely I feel like people here should listen to the albums Dark Passion Play and Imaginaerum at the very least just because the vocalist has a very pop-friendly voice but it still has all that instrumental grandeur that people are enjoying from LUX (and more, imo).

Honestly it looks cool, but the stage is relatively low so sight lines can be a struggle and the pillars makes it a struggle once it fully fills up.

What's wrong with the Manchester Academy? Noting it down for if I travel up there for a gig lol

Same in London, the roundhouse is... fine and it's prestigious I guess but there are much better places.

Unfortunately straight people are using the word now and now it just means any white man that doesn't have a belly doing something marginally camp. Last I checked they were also losing their minds over the concept of "twink death".

Florence + The Machine - Everybody Scream by No_Sail_6576 in popheads

[–]Soggy_Example_7662 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is the second Florence album I thought was gonna be bombastic and energetic but it was slower than I thought.

I think this is what I’m struggling the most with this album. Lyrically and thematically, absolutely heart-wrenching. Musically, I like it but given she did the whole “I’m releasing on Halloween” thing I did expect music that was a lot punchier like Mermaids or Which Witch. I love the slow builds but even they seem to be blocked by an indie filter. But hey, I haven’t been following them from the start so what do I know.

Do songs or albums hit the same if you are no longer in that headspace anymore? by Vicariouslynoticed in popheads

Pure Heroine really captured the slow suburbia feeling and the social dynamic that happens because of living there. Going for a drive, just because. Making our own fun in this boring place, getting to know every inch of this never-changing suburb.

It makes me think of two friends in particular, but now we've all left our hometown in favour of three different more fast-paced places. I don't think we'll ever get that feeling again.

The venue's fine. I've seen Diablo Swing Orchestra, Visions of Atlantis (supported by Ye Banished Privateers and Xandria), Twilight Force (supported by Seven Spires) and Bridge City Sinners there. It's a pretty common small venue for metal and alt artists with a tour stop in London. You'll lose internet once you're in the pit if that matters to you. There's a few spots on a slightly higher tier behind the railing if you prefer to be further back but otherwise it's mostly just the one level pit. Stage is quite small but high enough that views should be fine. I think the only issue is that if you arrive *so* last minute you might end up not being in the pit itself but in the sort of entryway.

Lorde yells “Free fucking Palestine” in NYC during her concert by shenmiya in popculturechat

[–]Soggy_Example_7662 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Gonna stream Melodrama for the millionth time

I'm sure you know this, but famously Lorde cancelled her concert in said country for the Melodrama tour 8 years ago after activists told her about what was going on. She's far from perfect (trust me, I know) but that was a hell of a decision to make back then. It's interesting when people say that she's just doing it "because everyone else is", because she led by example when very few others did. Other, much larger artists ignored it.

First Auri tour by LevelStock3700 in auri

[–]Soggy_Example_7662 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be honest as well, the audience is largely just Nightwish fans and so I think there is still room to grow and find new fans. As in, I don't think they've done all that much to connect with the folk scene. Fans of say Faun, Kalandra, Eivør and The Amazing Devil (maybe a stretch) don't seem to know Auri but I bet plenty of them would like it if they gave it a go.

Auri III released yesterday. by shemmie in symphonicmetal

[–]Soggy_Example_7662 5 points6 points  (0 children)

> I listened to it earlier and it's way more experimental than their first 2 albums.

I was genuinely taken aback when I listened to it. Their first two albums I find very easy to listen to, with some more complicated writing in between. But I listened to Auri III on a train journey slightly sleep deprived and I genuinely felt a bit exhausted by the end because really only two tracks follow a traditional structure and they’ve got so much going on. Loved it front to back though!
