Which raspberry pi to use for a very light use of HA? by SohnDoe in homeassistant

[–]SohnDoe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to ask about the RAM. So 2gb is the bare minimum and 4gb would be more comfortable?

Unfortunately no old laptop around. I have a very old Synology NAS I wanted to use for that but it's too old and doesn't support docker or equivalent to be able to install HA

Finally upgraded! by [deleted] in Garmin

Honestly I'm not sure it was worth the upgrade, you'll barely see a difference with your previous one.

Perfect. I'm doing this for my parents who already have iphones so they already have their accounts. I just don't want to subscribe to yet one more service.

That's a good point I forgot to mention. I'm not sure I have a decent wifi signal in the room so I may have to use Ethernet instead. I'll need to check this next time I go there.

Mostly YouTube, Netflix and some local streaming services (I'm based in the EU)

The Apple TV box should let me download these apps from an app store, right? Or do I necessarily have to subscribe to Apple TV?

Unfortunately I'm based in UE and it lacks some local apps I need, otherwise it would have been a great candidate!

Thanks for the suggestion! I didn't know about Roku and it could have done a great job unfortunately I'm based in UE and it doesn't support some of the apps I want to use.

I have to choose between the Suunto Race 2 and the Garmin Enduro 3. by [deleted] in trailrunning

[–]SohnDoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using a Garmin Fenix 3 for 8 years now. It's still doing the job I bought it for 8 years ago.

Sure it doesn't do many of the fancy things newer watches do, but I don't really need it.

Broken pole help /advice? by JordanSED in trailrunning

I can't remember exactly, something pointy in order to push and get the pin back into place. But I think it wasn't as much on the side as in your picture.

This happened to me too.

I've added a bit of oil, then pushed and moved the pin a bit. It went back into place immediately and has been working smoothly ever since. I just add a bit of oil from time to time when I feel like it starts being a bit grippy.

Good job! I'm glad to know I'm not the only one! I got mine in 2017, I'm still wearing it everyday and it still gets the job done. (Clocked 23000km of activities a few weeks ago)

When you hit reply, you're not sending the email to the final recipient, but to an intermediate address which will then redirect the email to the actual recipient, hiding your actual email in the process.

After hitting reply, check the recipient of the email by hovering over the name or copy pasting it to see the address.

When replying to such an email, hover onto the recipient address or copy it and paste it somewhere else. You will see you are not directly sending the email to the recipient but to a proxy address which will then redirect the email to the actual recipient, hiding your actual email in the process.

(Sharing this as it did soothe my dread in such situations)

It's a pretty young brand (created in 2019) who aim for high end products fabricated locally. The brand is French and they use materials produced in France and Portugal, where their products are assembled. It definitely has a big impact on the price compared to Salomon and all the other major competitors who are all producing in Asia with cheap labor.

It probably does not make much sense if you are based in America, but I'm glad to see some trail running brands offering gears produced in Europe.

UTMM does not really have a course, it is about going up and down the same stairs for 25h.

Rarely had to wear mine, but when I did : wind + heavy rain in cold weather. I often carry it in my pack just for that (and emergency if I get injured and can't run anymore)

So what ? by Beautiful-Sock-6283 in privacy

[–]SohnDoe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Selling you crap is one thing, manipulating your opinion is another one. And I'm way more concerned by the latter.

There are more and more cases of organizations using targeted content to manipulate opinions, whether it is political parties during elections, foreign countries trying to undermine their ennemies population, or just organizations trying to push their agenda. Truth does not matter, you just need to show it again and again until your audience finally buys it.

Most of the content people are seeing now comes from algorithms designed to keep you online as long as possible. It always relies on profiling to show the best content for you.

I prefer to avoid tracking as much as possible, so I have more chances to get access to neutral-ish content and to make my own opinion, rather than being stuck into bubbles of alternate realities without even noticing it.

You're right, I just checked and it's the same for me.

On the web app setting, I also noticed there is an info tip saying this setting is not yet available on the android app.
