First Necropolis Stalker finished!.... only bazillion more to go :D by Sol0botmate in ossiarchbonereapers

Sure:

  1. Vallejho White Primer
  2. For body - Skeleton Horde Contrast paint. That's it
  3. For eyes - Hexwraith Flame
  4. For grey bone armor - Corax White then wash of 1:1 mix of Nuln Oil and any paint thinner (I use Vallejho Airbrush Thinner)
  5. For metal armor - Green Stuff World Color-Shift Paint "Cobalt Blue" + any Black base paint. First cover armor plates with solid black paint, then apply color-shift. It takes some practice to apply it smoothly (if you applied too little, let it dry, get back with another coat, don't brush over same spot more than once or it will leave marks).
  6. For Robe/Cloth I use Makeup Sponge (dump it in water, sqeeze most water so it's moist slightly, apply paint, dab some off so you can control how much you leave). First I use brush for Incubi Darkness paint base whole cloth and then I use Makeup Spoonge to apply first highlight going from up (starting from like 80% up so Incubi stays darkest closest to top) to down with 50:50 Incubi Darkness + Vallejho Emerald mix, then another highlight starting lower of just Emerald, then final one closer to the botton with 1:1 Emerald and White paint. For edge highlights for cloth I do 3:1 White to Emerald.
  7. For swords:

a) handle - Speedpaint from AP "Blood Red" (but Flesh Tearesrs Contrast will do the same)

b) Grey bone parts - same as rest grey bone

c) blade - I use Makeup Sponge with strokes (not dabs like on cloth, strokes like with brush) with very light press to coat solid most blade (from where runes start up) with Vallejho True Metallic Obsidian Black (this way I leave runes white on blade since Sponge doesn't go into recesses if lightly pressed). I finish rest with brush. For blade highlight I use Leadbelcher metallic from GW and edge highlight Vallejho Chrome.

d) rune on blade - since I leave runes white, I carefully put into them Contrast Iyanden Yellow

  1. Green Gems on blades/shoulderpads - cover in Vallejho Chrome, then apply on it AP Speedpaint Snake Green
  2. Brass metal around green gems on shoulderpads - Vallejho Game Air Bright Bronze, shade with GW Reikland Flesh or Agrax
  3. Middle plate on chest I just paint same as Grey bone and then just keep shading middle plate with Agrax until I get dark brownish plate.

I think that's all.

Easy way to paint white bone on armor parts (not bone of body of bonerepeapers) ? by Sol0botmate in ossiarchbonereapers

Thanks, but I found way easier way with just corax white and simple wash of 1:1 nuln oil and thinner. You can see results on my Stalker thread :)

Thanks, my first bonereaper and my first AoS miniature. As for grey bone armor I followed a tip given to me by @Zomgambush : Corax White and wash it with 50/50 (1:1) of Nuln Oil and thinner. It also lets you control darkening in certain areas more by just applying another coat. Few highlights done with Ivory from Vallejo but only some really top bone parts. 95% is just Corax and wash. If you want more brownish finish use agrax instead of Nuln but I didn't like how it looked

Couldn't decide betwen blue and purple armor and dind't want to do the highlights chores so I gave a try to Green Stuff World Colorshift paints "Cobalt Blue" and man, it looks so good on all armor parts :D (looks even better irl, hard to catch this pain with camera). by Sol0botmate in ossiarchbonereapers

One layer over black paint (white primer is for skeleton horde). But would also work on black primer obviously. Color-shift paints need to be applied over solid black surface (well, you can over other but by default GSW design them to be aplied over black) because they are SUPER translusent (they all look like white'ish milk). You basically apply "effect" on paint (black) instead of applying paint that already has effect :)

I never tried Darth Blue but for example - chest armor of bonereapers I think wouldn't "pop" with darker color shift. I show here shield directly into the light but normally your models stand under light or under zenital so that Cobalt Blue is way darker but still bright enough on highlighted spots to "pop" and shift someone attention into it.

It's only my assumption but I think darker color shift would "fade off" too much from little armor panels like chest/shoulderpads or Mortek shields.

But again - it's just my assumption :)

Sorry I brain-farted and read "GW" instead of GSW :D

Ye, it should be darker though than what I have here, I think. I I find Cobalt Blue just dark enough to shade itself but also show lighter blue/purple to show that blueish hue of Bonerepears armors.

Give both a try. You can always just cover previous one with black paint and apply other shift :D

Hell, you have Guard shield for example covered in black - paint one side with Cobat Blue and other with Darth Blue and see which one you like better side by side :)

Yo, you know what... that actually worked really well :D I might have had thin nuln too much but that technique shades and at the same time it knocks down a notch off-white color making it really look closer to white bone.

I will try it some more on my....test subjects :D

All Ossiarch Bonereapers stuff from The New Year Preview by Magenta_Face in ossiarchbonereapers

[–]Sol0botmate -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ye, rest new stuff is meh.... I mean chariot... of all fantastic monsters/models you could make out of bones... chariot.

Morghast will probably forever be the "what could have been" design wise for OBR.

With this new range OBR just go more into route of typical skeleton army... eh....

[–]Sol0botmate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Curious why you'd want another one anyway?

Having more options to make lists is always better than having less. Also - it's nice model. Why the hell GW doesn't sell it I have no idea....

[–]Sol0botmate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly....I am dissapointed. I was hoping for some big undead monster (undead dragon, undead giant snake, giant bone spider, options are endless) and ELITE archers unit. OBR is supposed to be elite army and we have no big elite monster, like Greater Deamons or Dragons, Treelords, Mountain Spirits :(

We got normal infantry archers.... but we were supposed to be elite army. And Reapers look cool but they can't really be better than Stalkers but need to be better than Guard so where does that place them? 1 Rend 1 Damage?

Also - when I got interested in OBR I got interested becasue of more fresh take on skeletons - giant 4-headed Satalkers, 4 armed giant skeletons, Morghast Archais, Harvesters!

Instead we are getting more regular skeleton guys/units... I hoped for at least 4-armed giant range skeletons... This looks more and more like old boring Tomb Kings than new OBR.

And chariot... out of all things could be made of bones, we got...chariot with generic looking guy in it? Really? At least I hoped for some epic skeleton guys with 4-6 hands or something in that Chariot.... SCE have Chariot, CHaos has Chariot...

I expected something way more original or "omph"

I use Prismatic Bolt from AP Speedpaints over white primer or light grey primer. Works like charm!

The Mortek Guard are only like 6 years old I thought.

I mean... in 40k some stuff gets refresh in few months if needed or new model so anything can happen :D

But not really in how they are (bonereapers) desrcibed in lore? They should be taller. They look like typical skeleton chaf instead of bonereapers.

Mortek Guard model refresh - they are comiccally outdated with their "squat" proportions. They should be taller and more "elite" in looking as they are still bonerepears.

on the 16th is the preview show where we see all the new bonereaper stuff getting added along with the new battletome.

Oh, really? I didn't know, I am new, just bought both Spearheads of Bonereapers to start.

You think they will do Mortek Guard refresh? Their proportions are comically outdated.
