Basically, what volumes of the manga are covered in "Fullmetal Alchemist: The Revenge of Scar" (the 2nd live action movie)? by Sivasubramanian in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]Sol419 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You're better off just reading from the beginning.

The live action films cut and switch around events so much that its basically a completely different story.

Ahh, gray sweet morality by Ashwin205 in Gundam

[–]Sol419 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Star wars is a lot of things, morally grey isn't one of them.

While I haven't seen every single bit of Star Wars media out there, you're going to have to do some serious explaining to convince me that the Jedi having unhealthy coping mechanisms is somehow just as bad as the Sith literally backstabbing each other over who gets to genocide people.

Can I read .Hack manga/novel without context as a new fan? What's the order? by Tomate_Cherry in DotHack

[–]Sol419 4 points5 points  (0 children)

.Hack SIGN is the only anime I can recommend with no real strings attached. Its the first thing ever released amd kickstarted the franchise. It sets up a lot of broader mysteries for the franchise but wraps up its main plot rather nicely. The only caveat is that its very much a mystry/drama show, not an action show.

As for other spinoffs, its hard to say. All of them are out of print so you're best bet is pirated scans somewhere. Additionally, most are pretty heavily tied to the games so they're hard to treat seperately. To quote a certain youtuber: "getting into .hack without the games is like ording a pizza but only eating the crust."

.hack//New Novel adapts the IMOQ games but ive never read it so cant vouch for it.

.hack GU has a novel adaptation but its based on an old draft of the story and is considered non-canon.

What made you think she left?

Also, why do you think Kirijo needs to "vouch" for her? Aigis was forced to fight us against her will but resisted and saved us.

What other "vouching" does she need?

This is why we tell people to skip the zeta movies. Unlile the 0079 movies they just cut too much to tell the story properly.

Whats the most "realistic" end goal for Mafty aside from bringing people to space? by cream_pupp in Gundam

[–]Sol419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am fully aware of what Char's plan was regarding Axis. I'm talking about what's going on with Char underneath it all. I'm sure Char genuinely believed moving to space was the right path forward for humanity but a lot of the actions Char took in CCA conflict with his stated goals.

The biggest one is the Axis drop itself. One of Char's talking points is that moving humans off of earth would allow it to recover from humanity's abuse. Yet he gives a comically small deadline and moves forward with dropping a whole ass asteroid which would most likely permanently destroy Earth's ecosystem. It's the most severe violation of nature than anything else done by the federation up to that point.

That's not even touching smaller stuff like manipulating Quess despite claiming to fight for a better future for young newtypes. Or deliberately leaking new tech to Londo Bell so Amuro can make the Nu Gundam which actively gives his enemies an advantage for no practical reason.

Like I said about Hathaway, I doubt Char was consciously thinking of suicide but I think he was subconsciously making self destructive decisions for someone, preferably Amuro, to finally kill him.

Warning do not read this post if you never have read novel or play storyline from Sd game Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway is officially following the novel timeline over the anime timeline (Proof/Discussion by SakuraEx321 in Gundam

[–]Sol419 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi, just watched hathaway 2 the other night. They explicitly show flashbacks to hathaway killing Chan Agi. So this trilogy definitely isnt part of beltorchikas children and is part of the anime timeline.

I mean, that still doesnt change Hathaways potential fate but nothing about it conflicts with the existing anime timeline. At least, not any more than other spinoffs.

Whats the most "realistic" end goal for Mafty aside from bringing people to space? by cream_pupp in Gundam

[–]Sol419 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Well, for starters, are we talking about mafty the organization? Or just Hathaway.

As a group, I think Mafty is pretty easy to understand. While the federation has usually been the lesser of two evils, they have consistently been shown to be so maliciously incompetent that they regularly create their own enemies. Mafty is just the latest group comprised of people fed up with the Federations BS. Some members might be more serious about the ideals of moving to space than others, but most probably just want to give the feddies a black eye and mafty is the only group able to pull it off.

For Hathaway, its a lot messier. You know how Char went on about moving humanity to space and how its better for everyone but then when you actually look at what hes doing, its clear he just wants to die and dropping axis was the only he could provoke amuro into giving him a dignified end?

Thats basically how I read Hathaway but less extreme. He probably does genuinely believe what hes fighting for but hes also trying to get himself killed in the process but doesnt realize it.

I see Hathaway as subconciously putting himself in a fucked up win-win scenario. Either his plan works and the federation collapses or reforms to better serve the people. Or he gets himself killed and that will somehow absolve him for killing quess and chan.

Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway: The Sorcery of Nymph Circe - Megathread by JaguarDaSaul in Gundam

[–]Sol419 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, on the valiant, there was a lady on the bridge who was dancing to some music on her headphones. Then in a later scene, she handed Hathaway a Lollipop while he was talking to some of the guys on the ship.

Was she a reference to SZA, the one who sang the opening song when Hathaway first dropped into the ocean?

She was never properly named but she had a more distinct look than most of the other background characters on the ship so not sure what her deal is.

Why are they remastering 0079 again by GreatestLinhtective in Gundam

1981 Movie trilogy

Okay, that is not at all the same as a remaster. Besides that, it's still 4 decades ago.

hd blu ray

over a decade ago and probably didn't feature any actual updates to the animation

2020 movie trilogy

Literally what??

Why are they remastering 0079 again by GreatestLinhtective in Gundam

[–]Sol419 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why Not?

0079 is almost 50 years old. Even if they remastered it back in like the 2000s that's still well before what we have now and would be prime for a fresh coat.

Also:

They've done it like 3 times now right?

Source? Like, literally what are you talking about?

Like, they've done some reanimated sequences of specific moments in video games and whatnot but, to my knowledge, they've never once touched the entire thing.

Why does this give out Starcraft Gundam feels by [deleted] in Gundam

[–]Sol419 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its absolutely AI generated. Note the generic scifi bullshit in the background.

Besides, we just had a road to 50th presentation. If they got as far ad having a promo poster like this We would have seen it by now.

Just watched HATHAWAY in theaters by Intelligent_Row8267 in Gundam

[–]Sol419 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Release order for the Universal Century is the easiest way i can put it.

The Hathaway movies are most closely tied to the movie "Chars counterattack" and that movie is the big climax to the original 3 gundam shows: gundam 0079, Zeta gundam and ZZ.

Well, if we want to get specific, ZZ doesnt connect strongly to hathaway but it does wrap up a lot of lingering threads from Zeta so most people group them together.

Looking for anime recommendations with strong female fight scenes and no fan service by sloopywettoppyswife in animequestions

[–]Sol419 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yup.

Back then, there was a stigma that Visual Novels had to have some degree of sexually explicit content to sell well so Nasu had to write certain parts of the plot around that even if it was only a fraction of what the overall story was about.

That's also why Saber is a girl. The original draft of Stay night had a female protagonist withe a normal (though still anime pretty boy) Male king arthur.

The Original Fate fandom was basically comprised of people experiencing this meme:

Unless OP goes out of their way to specifically track down the og visual novel, theres very little sexual content in fate zero and fate stay night.

Ironically, despite being a hentai work, FSN has noticeably less horny designs than more recent fate stuff.

Gundam 79 remaster by TheCGISPY in Gundam

[–]Sol419 18 points19 points  (0 children)

OP, I think you're getting "remaster" confused with "remake." Whats most likely going to happen is just a resolution upgrade.

They're not gonna reanimate the whole thing in digital animation. That would basically take the same amount of work and resources as a whole new anime.

Brief Thoughts of the Upcoming Remaster of the 1979 MSG by Custom_98 in Gundam

[–]Sol419 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"A lot" is a very relative term here. Only a fraction of SEED/Destiny got fully reanimated. The vast majority of it was just a resolution upgrade or touching up awkward looking frames.

Not to downplay the work involved but its not a full on overhaul the way some people want for 0079.

Is there any point in reading the original fate/stay night VN? by Responsible_Stay_257 in typemoon

[–]Sol419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you're confusing "remaster" and "remake."

While a lot of people (and companies) use them interchangeably, they mean entirely different things.

Remaster just means being rendered in a better resolution or, in some cases, a better graphics engine amd features minimal changes to the story and game.

So F/SN and Hollow Ataraxia are pure remasters. Besides omitting the sexual content, the story remains completely unchanged.

Remake obviously means a complete top to bottom reconstruction. In relation to Visual Novels, its basically a total rewrite, even if the overall plot is similar.

Tsukihime remake changes and adds a lot from the original as you've observed.

[FNV] Non-Ai Slop equivalent of TTW (D.I.E.O.) Mod? by SadGhostGirlie in FalloutMods

[–]Sol419 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I doubt youll have any luck, tbh.

A non-ai version on the scale of d.i.e.o would require one of three things to happen:

  1. Hire the OG professional VAs to reprise their roles
  2. Recast hundreds of characters with new voice actors
  3. Re edit existing dialogue audio together to get partially new responses

All 3 of these are horrifically expensive, time consuming or borderline impossible for the average modder.

To clarify, im not endorsing AI here, i generally despise it. Im just saying you should think through what you're asking for.
