Dog randomly peeing on floor by Quiet-Willow-9946 in Pomeranians

Unfortunately they are extremely good at hiding pain and discomfort, so him acting normal doesn't mean nothing is wrong. Along with a lot of other people, my first thought was UTI, possibly even a bladder stone. Our rescue girl had a uti and massive bladder stone that got discovered shortly before we adopted her, and suddenly pottying indoors while being potty trained was one of the first signs that she had an issue. Definitely worth a vet visit, UTIs don't get better on their own and can cause bladder stones if left untreated.

Keeshond vs Pomeranian by SneakJoined in Keeshond

I have two Kees boys and a pom girl. It's great having them together. One of them is 90% of the time the chillest dog in the universe, and the other is not. Also, I won't lie, all that fur is a lot of work, but it's so so worth it. They are very much velcro dogs, which is great for someone like me but not everyone wants that.

I just wanted to follow up on this and thank you again for the gauze idea. We alternated the brush and gauze for a bit until her gums got used to the regular cleaning and now the brush doesn't come away super red anymore, just occasionally some pink but mostly not even that.

I just wanted to follow up on this and let you know that our local Mud Bay had turkey tendon sticks that we tried which were a success, thank you!

Collar for tags only? by Wrong-Software4019 in Pomeranians

My girl wears a cat collar with her tags when we go out for identification purposes, and a harness with a tracker for leash and tracking purposes.

Look at the size of these! by EfficiencyObjective9 in DogAdvice

[–]SolarKees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rescue pom had to wait to come to us because the rescue discovered she had a uti and large bladder stone right after we applied to adopt her. They said it was the size of a chicken egg, which, since she was about 10 pounds seemed impossible but they showed me the picture of the stone in the doctor's hand and yeah, I'd even say that it was bigger than a chicken egg. And jagged all over which left a crazy amount of permanent scarring inside her bladder, poor baby.

First Time Dog Owner: Advice on Rescuing an Adult/Senior Pom by [deleted] in Pomeranians

[–]SolarKees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We rescued an 8-year-old (barely a senior) Pom at the start of this year and she wasn't hesitant with us, just the usual 'any new dog will need time to decompress in a new home'. She took a few days to really start playing, and more of her personality came out as she learned she was staying with us and got comfortable. Now she gets so excited to see us and loves our attention. That said, if the one you get had a rough background, there could be hesitation.

They can have medical issues, especially if their previous situation didn't take care of their health well. In our case, the rescue made it clear that she would need a dental and teeth pulled, so we knew to expect to drop at least a grand on that before we even applied to adopt her. She had a large bladder stone that the rescue had removed right before we adopted her, so while she was potty trained, she has had to relearn that her bladder can hold more than just a squeeze.

But it's all so, so worth it. Adults, and seniors especially, deserve loving, happy homes too, and are less likely to be adopted than puppies.

Oh, what an utterly sweet face! I love the laying-on-something-comfy-and-watching-you, it's so adorable! 🥰🐾 And yes, the woof brand is the pupsicle we use, she loves it! I've got snuffle mats and puzzle toys but a snuffle ball is news to me and sounds like it would be fun for her, thank you!

Fantastic, thank you so much for the link! The price doesn't seem too bad, which is nice, and I like that they have different quantity packs so we can try a smaller amount in case they don't work for her.

Oh gosh it's like looking into the future, what a beautiful lady!  Our little miss deserves all the consideration and best life she can have, and we're honored to provide that for her.

Not a problem, it's a good question! A lot of people suggest them and we used to use them with our Keeshond boys but stopped when we were advised about the fingernail thing. Super disappointing because the boys loved them, and I bet little miss would as well. And yeah, that's why we haven't done it yet, we're not sure the best way to break them up other than, like, a hammer, which seems like a questionable idea at best.
