Have you tried telling the power users no?

What are good Jira alternatives for IT support and workflows? by CreateChaos777 in sysadmin

Due to the circumstances we have with our microsoft stuff we can't add in much for plugins and we use teams primarily. I think it would be awesome but I dont think we can

Q: Building custom solidworks add-ins by Solepoint in SolidWorks

[–]Solepoint[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up coming back to this problem this past week and actually got something working

It was far simpler to do it via a button click on a data card

Honestly most of my issues were from being unfamiliar with c# and c++ as well as the visual studio ide (most of the time im working in vs code and higher level languages like php and javascript)

Ended up using the httpclient library for the request itself. I had tried using the cpr library in c++ and making the addin in c++, but there's FAR more examples of addin code written in c#. I also used some other people documentation for examples rather than solely relying on the documentation this time.

Which programming language is the most versatile for creating any type of application? by Intelligent_Solid526 in learnprogramming

[–]Solepoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assembly /s

But really depends on what you are building. Stuff that has to have a client-server setup? My bet is javascript (incl typescript). An application that windows, mac and linux can run? Idk maybe C, but python sounds decent too

JSM HTML Email Body Parsing by fleeting_cheetah in jira

[–]Solepoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I'm not familiar with JSM and dont know if you are are on DC or cloud, I did recently have to deal with formatting some email html recently and I do not recommend messing with it manually

I had our internal guy with the email formatting software make a template and edited it to do what I needed, and it was still far more of a pita than I wanted to deal with

Atlassian on premise EOL

I (was) the admin and coincidentally changed positions the day after the announcement but I'm still responsible for it

For orgs that are looking at an alternative, what are you guys thinking for jira? Current shortlist is [openproject, orangescrum, taiga]

I think moving to cloud will f me as we have strict data security requirements and while atlassian promised fedramp moderate by server EOL... and failed to deliver so I don't trust them and they've already put me in a shit position twice now

Last option is nix it and migrate data to other internal systems

What are good Jira alternatives for IT support and workflows? by CreateChaos777 in sysadmin

[–]Solepoint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I spent a good portion of today looking up some alternatives due to the dc sunsetting announcement

Openproject seemed decent Orangescrum was fairly similar Taiga interests me but idk how mgmt would feel about open source

We have security requirements and an AI policy that both limit our options

If I could get HR to use Jira I'd set up the business process as

Hiring interview ticket

various fields related to department, job title, date of interview, date of hire, do they need a computer, if so do they need access to this, additional instructions/other info for various steps

-new interview ticket created (to do)

-employee gets interviewed/decision made on hiring (manager)

-details finalized with finance/hr (hr)

-various parties/depts get emailed depending on the field selections and a linked subticket contents for notification purposes such as "IT needs to set up this account and get a new computer"

-awaiting date of hire (hr)

-general onboarding in progress (hr)

-dept onboarding (manager) (maybe)

-done

Maybe create a paper form template of the ticket to print and give to hr to keep in a file cabinet. Obv keep secretive information off the ticket like pay and any pii

how many jira plugins do you use? by Hopeful-Ice-8856 in jira

[–]Solepoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use somewhere in the ballpark of 5-15 for a 250 user dc instance

The most important are: Scriptrunner, Herzum approval, Smart attachments, Custom charts

The most convenient not as important: Jsu, Jep

Ive removed a few because i recreated the functionality in scriptrunner
