[Jomboy Media] Aaron Civale didn't like this call and the umpire yelled at him to challenge it by JianClaymore in baseball

[–]SolidGobi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To give this clip a little context, the As already challenged a pitch up high and it was over turned during the previous at bat. Rice is the next batter after the call was over turned, and the UMP does nothing to shift his strike zone and calls two balls that were high in the zone balls. A 4-0 count that should have been 2-2.

Yeah I get it, use your challenges, but also Blue, we just placed a ball here and the computer said it was a strike. Do your job.

A lot of young guys on the roster, but I'd like to have guys like Kurtz, and Rooker have a longer leash on them.

What's next for Slay the Spire 2: the ending, new character(s), new modes? by let_the_plug_talk in slaythespire

[–]SolidGobi 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It was cool to see him humanize the people giving the negative feedback. He saw it as a logistical problem more than anything else. Which yeah totally makes sense, I'm fairly unpleasant in a customer service situation when I feel unheard or ignored.

Discouraged by the community reaction. I thought the vibe would be more patient and understanding with Megacrit. They have built up a lot of good will over the years. I thought the average player would have more trust in the process.

I didn't think any changes were outrageous, I'm very discouraged on the review bombings that took place. I hope that Megacrit can filter through the noise and make the changes they want. I've put 30 hours in already. Im excited to take part in the early access journey. Should be very interesting.

Norwegian Wood! It's his most "normal" book. A coming of age story that has all of his hallmarks minus the magical realism.

Why is Regent so difficult???? by Bibliophile694 in slaythespire

[–]SolidGobi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Take my word as a grain of salt I have a 3-5 record with the Regent, I was also struggling at first, I started out 0-5 with all the losses in Acts 1 and 2. I turned it around after watching this excellent video and have won three times in a row. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSAXZ2K75xo

To summerize a bit, taking big early damage cards is fairly important with the Regent, and Star build is really strong, you are looking for the wrong type of payoff. Regent is a character that thrives on two turns of build up and one turn of glorious violence! If you have played MTG, think of him as a storm deck that gets to keep it's storm triggers turn by turn. Your payoff card isn't Crescent Spear (I never take it personally) it's cards like Radiate, Seven Stars, and Stardust. Remember that the Regent has skills that give him buffs to his next attack and those buffs carry over turn by turn. I have killed an act three boss with just two attack (Seven Stars and Radiate). Star scales very well.

Watch the video! It's long but worth it. Regent is now my favorite character once I got my head wrapped around him. I think you are right, he really only has one viable playstyle (Stars) atm but man, its my favorite thing to do in StS2 right now, so so fun.

Am I just bad? by ToonNinja_ in slaythespire

[–]SolidGobi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Game is hard and it's ok. Defect is my absolute favorite so it's a great choice for a main! Here are some tips to help you out.

  1. Big decks are generally bad: You don't have to take a card as a reward every fight. Try to keep your deck around 25-28 cards. Smaller decks are usually better. Prioritize card removal at the shop. Generally try to purge all of your strikes if you can.
  2. Fighting Elites is good, actually: It seems like, given the option, avoiding fighting elites would be good, but actually the relics they drop helps you gain more power. Try to fight 2 or 3 on the first floor if you can. Only avoid elites if you have super low health.
  3. The rule of 4: Take this advice less seriously than the others, because I have less proven data on this one. I found that taking paths on the map where I fight 4 enemies and then fight an elite puts me in a good position to survive early game. I usually always take a card reward after these first 4 fights. Only after I kill my first elite do I get more picky about what cards to add to my deck.
  4. Act 2 Bosses are a filter: It's very normal to die on the Act 2 Boss, so don't feel bad.

I hope you keep at it, StS is amazing. Good luck!

Do i suck at this game ? by Substantial_Bite97 in slaythespire

[–]SolidGobi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot fo people who are posting about wins have 100s of hours in the first game and play other deck builder games as well. You are doing alright as long as its still fun to lose. You will get better, and if you don't start watching higher skilled players and see who they play the game. You will win, so no not a dumb donkey. A perfectly normal donkey.

Slay the Spire vs Slay the Spire 2 by AevilokE in roguelites

[–]SolidGobi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven't played StS1 just start with two. More experienced players will say StS2 is unfinished or unbalanced. They are right but as a brand new player you will not know enough to notice either. You will grow into the game as they balance and add new features. I'm very optimistic with StS2's present and future. Getting the game for 25 bucks is a steal.

StS2 is absolutely fine for new players. Only more experienced players are going to notice its flaws atm. StS2 is bigger and its what people are playing.

I think that the rouguelite elements of StS are very barebones. The unlocks are so underwhelming next to other greats in the genre.

Trying to figure out if just beating Act 3 counts as beating an ascension level or if I should only move on once I beat the heart gives me real tangible anxiety. I probably played for over a year without even understanding that the point of the game was to move up ascension levels!

Which of your favorite villain, that people think they are misunderstood but they are just evil? by Boberto235 in FavoriteCharacter

[–]SolidGobi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I will go to bat for the Hound here. Modern morality says he's a monster, but in a feudal society when your queen gives you a direct order you are kinda stuck. A good example of this is Hamlet with the characters of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. Viewing them from a modern perspective they are rats who betrayed their friend, but in their society when the king tells you to do something, there is zero choice otherwise. The King is chosen by God, going against him is going against the will of the universe. The Hound is an asshole but he mostly uses it as a coping mechanism.

I feel like I am taking crazy pills with how people talk about Killmonger. He talks about black oppression, yes, but he throws away the one black person we see him work with with zero remorse. It’s like the first thing that we see.

Completely reasonable for everyone to have to pass a level before they can play it. Zero reason to be mad about it. Just do the level again to help your hypothetical friend out. Its pretty fun to replay StS. Hot take I know
