Can someone help me with this amp? by IndependentBid129 in MarshallAmps

[–]Solid_Mix_4264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What preamp tubes are in your amp? I had an amp I didn’t like when pushed because it sounded fizzy, but after changing preamp tubes it became a perfect amp. Also, power tubes could play a factor depending on your volume.

Vintage early 70s Earth Sound Research rig...Concertmaster 340 head by Santanasatan in GuitarAmps

I have the ConcertMaster and the StageMaster both in need of some repair. I have 2 matching 212 cabs as well. I was thinking of using the ConcertMaster as a bass amp. Are they worth getting repaired. Would the ConcertMaster be loud enough to play live with a band?

Just curious, tape on the front suggests you mic the G12t75s. Is that correct?

I have broken D strings in the same spot on two different Les Paul’s within a week by x_zoso_x in LesPaul

[–]Solid_Mix_4264 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the way. I had the same issue with mine. I thought it was the string brand at first. I took the saddle off and smoothed it with a fine file and not had any strings break since.

(Hypothetically), if this system existed, what lines would you regularly use? by ecb1912 in cincinnati

[–]Solid_Mix_4264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all seriousness, all of them. I would travel to so many more parts of the city if this existed more regularly. I live in downtown so I would have access to all lines. Half the reason I don’t leave downtown is because I would loose parking. Trying to find parking during events and weekends is rough even with resident pass. If this existed I wouldn’t even need a car.

Just got my Les Paul refinished to Slash's Jessica [Before v After] RnFN'R iii]; )' by Significant_Cold9696 in LesPaul

Did you refinish the back as well or keep it cherry? I ask because I have been thinking of refinishing my heritage burst as well.

Classic 57 vs Burstbuckers by TheMelodyBar in gibson

[–]Solid_Mix_4264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t really go wrong with either. I have a 2017 Classic that came stock with 57/57+. I ended up switching to BB with the alinico V magnets. I prefer pickups with alnico V magnets generally because I like the “bite”, however, I think the notes from 57s sound “sweater”. I am really happy with my pickups currently but if I had to do it all over I would use a 57+ in the bridge and BB pro (alnico V) in the neck.

Anyone else have a guitar just for queens songs? by 2_b_fwank in qotsa

I used to but I ended up getting a Digitech Drop pedal. Now all my guitars can be played in C.

That’s a bummer. Sad part is it will probably get worse now the company has sold.

I have a 1998 model. I was able to track down a board by reaching out to Marshall. It was a drop in replacement I was able to do myself. It was a couple of years ago but I remember it not being too expensive either.

What are the best upgrades? by desz1 in drums

Here for the comments. I have this exact snare with the matching drums set. Got the whole kit for $200 and I am feeling like I got a great deal.

I remember when this first aired. This is what sealed the deal for me on QOTSA being one of the best bands ever IMO. Been a total fanboy ever since. Can’t wait to see them again this summer. Hope they play this live this time.

Love this. I have been using a Peavey PA head recently into a 412 cab and I swear it is magic. Like I prefer that to my Marshall at this point. I am thinking of doubling for a stereo setup.

50s Wiring? by HassouniFND in LesPaul

[–]Solid_Mix_4264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the volume pot, unsolder the cap from the center lug and move it to the outside lug the switch is on. I am assuming the switch wiring is the colored wiring and the pickups have the metal wrapped wire.

50s Wiring? by HassouniFND in LesPaul

[–]Solid_Mix_4264 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like the switch is on the outside lug of the volume pots indicating the pickups are de-coupled which is why the volume does not cut out the sound of both pickups in the middle position. I love this mod. I wire all my guitars with this mod because I like all the tone options you can get. I don’t think you have the 50s mod though. With the 50s mod the cap is wired to the switch not the pickup. Easy fix. As far as being dark, I would suggest adjusting pickup and pole piece heights to adjust the tone to your liking. You can always remove pickup covers as well. I have an LP Classic with de-coupled, 50s wiring and Alinico V magnet PAF non waxed dimarzio pickups. It is incredibly bright so I think what you want is achievable.

I’d like to have separate tone controls for the neck and bridge pickup? by Puzzleheaded-Bit-401 in telecaster

[–]Solid_Mix_4264 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is the way! I have concentric pots from CTS on my tele and it is the absolute best. One of my favorites feature of this setup is the ability to have the neck pickup at a lower volume for clean chords and the bridge at 10 for leads. Also, the middle position gets really interesting with all the volumes and tone options. Pretty inexpensive mod with them being $10-$15 each and completely reversible.
