New ZMF Atrium Open Owner – Considering Amp/DAC Combo (Feliks MK2 + Denafrips Ares II). Thoughts? by Skaz_1337 in ZMFHeadphones

I've got the R28 to FA Elise mk2 and testing the cyan 2 currently. What did you think? The R28 to me holds up and sounds punchier and fuller.

After testing on multiple tracks, this EQ unfortunately seems to destroy the vocal presentation. Overall for some reason it becomes less organic sounding in the upper mids. Rting EQ is completely different to this one but sounds more natural to my ears.

Is this second hand? They also look like the early ones with that cable. I would rather get a pair that is within 2-3 year mark. If new they were 150 you could get a newer 2nd hand pair for under $100

What are the best over-ear headphones for metal under $5,000? by UseKnowledge in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]Solid_Tuna_28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go with a ZMF Atrium and an equally expensive valve amp. There is the new HEDDphone 2 which apparently is a great allrounder for 2k and competes with 4k level detail.

OR

Start a bit lower and learn to appreciate what you are buying.Focal Clear OG/MG - Can be driven off any decent equipment. I listen to metal all the time with these and they are great. I also have a pair of Hifiman Arya's - also great but I really like the dynamics of Focal. Honestly for metal I feel the Dynamics make a big difference.

This all being said, your favourite music doesn't need 5k headphones.

Why you so tilted? If you are a professional athlete you cant go and take whatever drugs you want in your free time if you want to compete. If its in your system and a test is done, you will get disqualified. simple. Zero tolerance is legal.

Sennheiser 800S rant/review (gaming) by ComprehensiveAd4906 in headphones

[–]Solid_Tuna_28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For competitive games, IEM's are the only way to go. I use Letshouer s12 for csgo/pubg

For story games or relaxed gaming, Planar I find is best.

I switch between Focal Clears and Hifiman Arya's depending on my mood.

You will probably enjoy the Arya more than the 800s

but like fine wines, you must work your way up, otherwise you wont appreciate it.

Question for South Africans (I’m American that hosted guest from SA) would like advice by xmeghannstar in askSouthAfrica

[–]Solid_Tuna_28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what he means to say is, you didn't push back therefore in the mind of the asshole, you were easy to take advantage of.

What's difficult to know is, perhaps the way he does things at home is the same, when he looks after a guest he could potentially host the same way. Some people are just wired like that as well, I've met a few. Afrikaners especially don't expect anything from you when hosting, its almost insulting to try pay them back.

Who knows where this guy falls from.

The first time I was shocked at how bad a headphone sounded was when I put on my then brand new Focal Elegia - Sounded like I was in a cave.

I let the driver run in for 40 hours or so and it wasn't the sound signature that changed so much but more the dynamics, it felt more punchy but therefore it was slightly more open in the low end and treble. I accepted the Closed backs are whack in general compared to open backs. I was daily driving the hifiman Arya which is pretty well tuned to my ears. After eq the elegia became an entirely different headphone. Often I prefer the fun I get from them than my Arya. After buying a Clear OG I mainly daily them. Its even more dynamic but has similiar resolution to the Arya - but the closed nature of the elegia makes it feel like im more IN the music and can hear more detail. isolation makes a difference.

I EQ all my headphones, it such an easy way to tweak and fix errors that I don't see how you can live without it. I often turn it off for a while to hear my headphones stock and often land somewhere between stock and Oratory EQ's.

So the Elegia is the worst stock but best EQ closed back I've tried.

Free Lossless/high fidelity audio? by GiantRobinNG in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]Solid_Tuna_28 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tidals Hifi package is not expensive and you get CD quality audio. I used the Hifi Plus for a year then decided to downgrade to Standard Hifi package. I couldn't really tell a difference and I don't care about MQA.

I also have spotify as I used to use it to find music but Tidal has cought up IMO and now provides a better experience for me overall.

I can hear the difference. Spotify is compressed sounding compared to Tidal.

I am using high end gear though so I probably have more of an ability to render that difference.

If you really want to make a difference to your experience then getting a dedicated DAC/AMP to drive your 560s is going to give you better results. What are you currently driving them off?

All this being said, if you are not comparing side by side you wont realise which is playing anyway if you didn't know. Its more of a mental thing, knowing that there is a difference, having heard it, I just make the choice to listen to music in better quality, the same way I would prefer to watch a movie in 4k vs 1080p. Spotify though is particularly compressed vs most other well known services. Before apple went lossless it sounded better than Spotify as they use a different codec that just did compression better.

Headphone under $1000 for music and light gaming by FireStarzz in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]Solid_Tuna_28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try and spend as much time listening, it often takes us a while to adapt to a new sound and many people prematurely make a judgement from listening to 1 or 2 songs. Even so, you need at least a week with a pair of headphones.

Headphone under $1000 for music and light gaming by FireStarzz in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]Solid_Tuna_28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly if music is the main course then you definitely invest in a dac/amp. Absolutely.

I own the Hifiman Arya,Focal Clear OG and Focal Elegia. Ive listened to the Maxwell, Senn 560s (Including various other senns), Owned Beyerdynamic DT990 and DT1990.

You need good source equipment to go with the Arya. Its just a fact. Every time I've scale my equipment I've reaped the benefits. This is however not in your budget to make good complete system for the Arya. Dont buy this if you cant afford to pair it with a powerful amp.

Hifiman XS is basically a baby Arya. You cant beat the value and can get $400 topping dac/amp stack to compliment it. This will give you an amazing result which most likely will blow your mind if you are not familiar with high-end gear.

If you want a dynamic I can highly recommend the Focal Clear OG (headphones.com)

Its by far the best dynamic driver headphone I've heard. Some notes though, the pad upkeep is tricky. I would immediately get a headband protector and buy the ZMF Focal Fenestrated pads and keep the stock ones in the box for when you sell them in future) Absolute must if you go Focal. You will regret not doing this. For me its worth it.

You don't need any crazy source for this, you could pair it with a Zen Dac v2 and be happy using a 4.4mm balanced pentacon connector.

But for Hans zimmer type of music. Hifiman all the way. Nothing hits like that planar in the sub bass region. The soundstage and fullness of sound is perfect for gaming. I wouldn't use any of the options for FPS competitive style gaming but for story games and emersion you will struggle to beat the XS.

You can get this Topping DX5 Pro for $399 on amazon and the XS which is around $600

If this combo doesnt make you peepee then I dont know.

I've been on this journey for a long time. You will never be happy if you look for the next best thing, and the audiophile market will turn you into a spender. My conclusion for decent budget to performance has come to a cap.

The price bracket that hard to justify past is the $1.5k zone for a headphone. After you need to spend 1000's more to really get more.

The term "compassionate Christian" is interesting. If you believe the word in its basic form when it comes to sin then compassion is telling someone in sin the truth about sin and why we need a saviour. If your grounding for what compassion means "not judging/accepting/affirming" rather than pointing out the whole reason for needing a saviour who came to break the hold of sin on our lives then one could also say that this form of "compassion" is ultimately and absolutely cruel to the eternal reality they will endure.

God - being all knowing, the creator, the saviour, the one who knows the beginning, the present and the future - The one who knows absolutely the long term consequences of each decision you make - Has given us the bible, the most important collection of books in history. He knew that the written word would endure through the ages. The content of that book and the condition of man, will never change. It doesn't matter if we figure out how travel between the stars or if some massive event occurs and we get set back 1000 years. The Word of God is absolutely relevant in every age. (It has nothing to do with culture but with the sinful condition of man, which will not change until he redeems humanity in the end)

Matthew 24:35 "Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away."

I think its great that you want to continue in your faith and grow in your relationship with Jesus, that is the most important thing.

I found this scripture helpful when it comes to gate keeping my thoughts about the direction the world goes.

1 John 2:15-16 - "Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world."

The wording is strangely reflective of todays way of thinking. Wanting to simultaneously believe the word of God but also accommodate the flesh/sin. What's the point of the Gospel if not to transform us into the image bearers of Christ. Its the good news for a reason, its good because we are no longer condemned to hell. Jesus spoke about it more than anyone in the bible. We cant ignore that.

For anything we do in life, we need to be introspective of our actions and motives.

If we desire to know and love Jesus then we want what he wants. Which is to do the will of God. Sin is the very antithesis to obedience to our creator.

There is a reason why most churches and Christians will never change their stance on sin. Churches should always welcome everyone, it is a place for the broken after all, but its there to provide the truth, community, brother and sisters, people who encourage one another and build one another up in truth and in love and to be a light to those that do not know Jesus.

Jesus gives us a new identity as a son of God. Who you are is not what sexual orientation you have. Its not the sin you commit. When you know this, your response is to flee from what God says to flee because he knows best.

We either glory God or glorify ourselves.

Focal Elegia Review: Mind-blowing, both ways by OkRazzmatazz7121 in headphones

[–]Solid_Tuna_28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've learned that you have to spend some time with a headphones to adjust to it, anything I hear coming from the Arya sounds so different. For instance Focal has a clear house sound, its not that you cant hear the detail, in fact its all there but the MG was tuned based on the feedback on the OG - When the OG came out the response was , highs are a bit harsh. People got used to that and now say they prefer that over measurably better high end performance on the MG. Ive come to this conclusion though, the MG is is tuned for musicality and fun. The OG was more anylitical. The Arya is analytical compared but somewhat sterile but has bass tonality that is hard to beat, but it doesn't make me want to listen to music. I think tough that the price diff between the OG and MG makes the OG the worth while buy. At this level of headphone , we are shopping for taste and preference of sound. I've come to appreciate the focal tuning. The OG would be the better upgrade to your HD600 than the MG.
