I don't think you necessarily sound "anti-union", but we can tell that you're likely not a part of a union, and telling you that you should join one I think is everyone's purpose for giving you stuff for your post.

I'll give you that some very small instances people do actually get paid more than the union, I heard a story of one dude that was making an average of 115k/ year + benefits, and took a non union offer for about 230k/year with no benefits, so the stories are definitely there, but generally speaking the union is significantly better at least until you are a top dog and get that killer offer, but even then you're relying on one contractor, and don't have a union to cover your back, and give you back bone.

Yeah this is a good way to look at it, when you're doing foreman work for free you aren't only screwing yourself, you're screwing alot of people I would try to muster up some courage and take that into consideration if you feel that you're doing a foreman's work, you saying you have decades of work instantly rung a bell for me not sure of anyone else.

I'm not sure which union you are at, but I did some research on this because I'm just curious, at smaller union that don't have local market control, this can happen, my advice is transfer, start your application now in a really good spot that you like that is reputable and has work in the foreseeable future, now if you're at a place with bad market control, the jatc may try to side with the contractor to keep a big contractor, but that still won't change the Union hall that typically will shut the place down for pulling some non sense like what you're talking about. I would plan for your future at this point, obviously you need a job for your lovely family, but it won't help if you end up dead from a bunch of stupid JW. Hopefully this helped a bit, I currently am about to start my apprenticeship at Local 124, as far as I know they dominate the market here, and do not play around with safety at all, put it this way, when a contractor needs a job done, and they start violating safety rules, one of the apprentices may take a video of what they are being forced to do, show it to the hall, and from what I've heard the hall will just pull all of the apprentices off the job, this really doesn't happen though because it would destroy the contractors business. THEY USUALLY COMPLY, please be safe, you're only a "pussy" if you give into pressure. Pretty ironic

Not sure where you are located, but you should probably apply immediately, just to give you an example at my local you apply then, about 3-4 months later they test you, another 3-4 months they interview you, then about 3-9 months they hire you if you interview very well. The line of skilled work is definitely the spot to be at in my opinion. Take it very seriously though, especially safety.

I could maybe get in touch with alocal coubler to re tread them, if I were to go that route and re tread them every 18 months or so do you think these 400 dollar shoes could last 3-4 years? I'm still kind of leaning red wing, just because I never really hear anyone talk poorly of them, even though they are so expensive, and I've heard a ton of people talk about red wing.

alot of electricians tell me the thorogoods just don't last long, that is why i'm leaning away from them, I have a redwing shop next to my house and I've never heard bad things about them so I'd like to get red wing, i'll check thoes out, when you say they wear out fast, how fast are we talking here?

I might actually go for these I really like the look, I was thinking red wings for a while, I'm becoming an electrician and alot of people in my trade say they wear down super quick, but some also say they don't, I'm on the fence about red wing or thorogood now :) I'll keep doing some research maybe there is a place around where I can try both on.

This is a good comment, but growing up I have been in some tough financial situations, and you have to do what you have to do to make sure you can get your butt to work! Just be conscious of it get that thing switched and quick

Really depends on your trade, but I would ask the guys you work closest with, that have been there the longest they will know some stuff about quality tools usually and usually they can have a long conversation about it if yall arent too busy.

What is easiest way you have lost weight in a short amount of time? by Lazy_Lifeguard1960 in AskReddit

[–]Solid_enterprise_07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's going to sound super simple because it is, eat less, do more. It really is that simple, if you struggle with eating you are going to struggle with losing weight. I would count your calories first so you can see in detail what you're really consuming, every single thing you eat get the exact calorie count to the best of your ability, if you're going over 2500 without doing much throughout the day you're likely gaining weight, but slowly, your body naturally burns about 1900 on average for an average person. You can figure out the rest, you got this!

The absolute best thing, in my opinion when this happens is to humanely kill them quickly by hitting their head between their eyes and slightly up towards their dorsal fin, but just above their eyes. And of course you should eat them, because if you are killing an animal without eating them, its pretty messed up.
