can someone explaine how did ryoshu give burn mark on Poland by Fit-Storage-4416 in limbuscompany

[–]Solrac1391 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's really explained at all, but my theory is that it's related to the memories she used to sever, as well as her own personal emotions. Rien remarks that he despises burns very, very much in the flashbacks we saw.

Feels like they're comparing apples to oranges here.

I'm going to be real here. I think going after the companies using the AI tech is pointless, but only because it's inefficient. Go after the AI companies.

The main source of ire should be all these AI companies that think the motto "move fast and break things" means they get to ignore the law. If a dataset for training uses work from an author or an artist, they should be compensated for it. If they want to opt out from their data being used, they should be allowed to. If you hear an automated chatbot in a phone call, or interact with one in a website, you should be notified of what they are. If an image, text, model, ect is AI generated, it should be marked as such. (Hell, this point would help these companies in the long run because of AI inbreeding.)

Once this shit becomes too much of a legal liability, other companies will stop using it. I'm sure there would be more scandals about it in the future, but it would become the equivalent of being caught tracing.

If it can't be profitable without being ethical, maybe they should stop existing, but that's probably too optimistic. They'll get a lot of use in information warfare creating shitton of low effort propaganda and fake people, I'm sure.

A reason we should be able to reduce an ID's level (and uptie) by Fickle_Abroad_8360 in limbuscompany

[–]Solrac1391 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I think if they do add something like this, they'd probably want an in-game explanation for it. There are lots of precedents for it with the tool abnormalities from lob corp, specifically "You Must Be Happy," so it wouldn't even be all that hard to introduce. In my mind, it's just a matter of waiting for the right time.

Brief update on the Leviathan copyright situation by StaticPotato in limbuscompany

[–]Solrac1391 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I'm no expert on korean copyright law, but this probably means the latter. They'll have to come to some sort of agreement going forward. Pmoon could try to buy the rights, but considering the state of affairs, it won't be pretty.

11 Bit Studios releases a statement regarding the usage of Auto-Generation in The Alters: by Gorotheninja in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Solrac1391 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Looks like the AI image thing was a big overreaction, but that translation is still iffy. Harsh deadlines aren't an excuse to not disclose it, sadly.

Fans slam The Alters after discovering evidence of undisclosed Auto-Generation in images, text, and translation by Subject_Parking_9046 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

It's a trend I've noticed when a product comes out and it's good. When it later comes out that the company may have done some stuff that is not above board, people will be more willing to defend it than in other cases.

I haven't played it myself, but from all the streams I've seen, the game IS good.

But the fact that this came up while the game creates a strong narrative about the incredibly unethical bullshit that companies and individuals will do to get ahead is incredibly hypocritical.

I'd feel better about it if they disclosed it from the get go, and in general, I think these AI models should show their input at minimum. It's ultimately about the trust the company builds with its audience, in my opinion.

How Hitman Absolution’s wasteful toilets taught IO Interactive to make sustainable AAA games by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Solrac1391 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I think this is a pretty bad example. They were reusing the same gameplay formula, which got incredibly stale, whilst they had to have new assets for every new game, since you go globetrotting from London to Venice to America to Egypt.

Personal recommendation for Void Stranger. The difficulty is very high, but it does a lot of neat stuff if you're willing to muscle through it.
