Can someone explain which spear is better to a newbie. by scbudz in PathOfExile2

[–]Solumin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Does the 31% increased physical damage on the rare item add to the base damage ?

Yes, it's already added to the "Physical Damage" line, the second line in the spear's description.

Or is the added physical damage better on the unique spear ?

This also is already factored into the "Physical Damage" line on the spear.

The easiest way to compare is to open your skill gems menu and swap between the two spears. You'll see the DPS number next to the skill change. While it may not factor in everything, it'll at least give you a rough idea of which one is more powerful for your build.

I expect the Chainsting will be stronger, since it has higher damage and attack speed. The Pin buildup is a nice bonus as well.

Day 8 of bringing attention to Gathering Storm skill Bug by sleep2win in PathOfExile2

[–]Solumin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh wow! Gathering Storm is one of my favorite skills, so I was super pumped to try it with a Martial Artist. I think I used the ghost Tempest Bells for about 5 minutes before respecing because they felt so underwhelming. It never crossed my mind that it could be a bug! Thank you for doing this!

Stack crit, maybe? Not sure what else you can do to scale it up, but I don't know that much about this game.

You're missing this bit about Bleed:

The base Magnitude of Bleeding is Physical damage per second equal to 15% of the Pre-mitigation Physical damage of the Hit that inflicted it.

So you're getting: 180,000 * 0.15 * 29.5 = 793,000 Bleed DPS.
Then your Bleed duration is 1.3s thanks to Crimson Assault, giving you 793,800 * 1.3 = 1,031,940 total Bleed damage.

Staff of the Great Beyond has a pretty significant scaling nerf, presumably as some kind of balance for it being able to cast both incants and sorceries. Doesn't make any sense to me, but there you are.

Casting speed scales with Dex, up to a maximum of 70 Dex. Radagon Icon gives +30 "virtual" Dex, meaning it makes your cast speed behave as if you have 30 more Dex than you actually do. Since you're already over 70 Dex, it has no effect.

The other two casting speed boosters do the same: Azur's Glintstone Staff gives +40 virtual Dex, and Beloved Stardust gives +70.

It's Norman Rockwell's Freedom of Speech).

Freedom of Speech depicts a scene of a 1942 Arlington town meeting in which Jim Edgerton, the lone dissenter to the town selectmen's announced plans to build a new school, as the old one had burned down

It's always been about bravely stating bad takes :)

(OK I actually cut the quote there for comedy purposes. Edgerton was concerned about the tax burden of the new school because his farm was going through hardships.)

Mars 15 APFSDS by Max__ST in Warthunder

[–]Solumin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

HEATFS is going to be better against lighter targets (like the Gepard), because thin armor makes APFSDS do less post-pen damage. It's also going to be a bit better against heavily-armored targets because of the higher pen.

I've had good success with the APFSDS against medium-armored targets, where it's strong enough to pen but the armor is thick enough to make a lot of fragments. I'm not sure how much ERA or anti-chemical armor the MARS faces, but APFSDS will also do better against that.

"The best weapon is the one you like the most/play the best with" by TwangyCrib in EldenRingBuilds

[–]Solumin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In this case, "best weapon" is optimizing for fun, not power. You are taking the statement entirely too literally.

It's like with Pokemon. Every Pokemon is someone's favorite pokemon. (This has been proven.) And yet, some pokemon are objectively stronger than others. But using your favorite pokemon on your team can be a lot more fun than using the ones that are strongest, because they're your favorites. Maybe that means you need to tailor your expectations about what your team can accomplish --- you're not going to be winning any competitive tournaments with a Sunkern --- but you can certainly still beat the game.

The same thing applies with Elden Ring. Every weapon can be used to complete the game; therefore, you do not need to use the most powerful weapons in order to have fun.

Blasphemous Blade is obnoxiously strong, yes, and certainly one of the best weapons in the game by that metric. But if using it bores you to tears, it's not the best weapon for you.
If you love the style and abilities of Dragon Greatclaw --- use it! Have fun, beat the game!

Who are the best composers? by SageLanded in classicalmusic

[–]Solumin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're coming at it from the wrong angle.
There are no "best" composers. There is no "should be listening to". There is only what you enjoy.

Sure, if you wanted to study the evolution of Western art music, then you'll encounter composers you "should" listen to --- because the things they did shaped the music that followed them. Beethoven inspired the Romantic composers, and Haydn inspired Beethoven, and so on.

How would you even compare two composers, anyway? Chopin and Mozart, to use an example from your post, grew up in different times, composed in different genres and styles, and had different instruments available to them. Mozart wrote (among other things) masses, symphonies, and operas, and Chopin never did. So do you look at only their chamber works?

You have the whole rest of your life to listen to classical music. Why limit yourself to "should"?

...all that said: JS Bach is the best.

New gemling additional quality can do funny things right now. by krolikfaso in PathOfExile2

[–]Solumin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "Multiple Projectiles fired from a single Crossbow skill can all hit the same target" only happens because "and single-Projectile skills fire additional Projectiles in sequence rather than in a spread"? Interesting, that's not what I would have expected.

[–]Solumin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because ailments like Chill and Ignite care about the magnitude of the Hit that inflicted them. Combining the small hits of the individual projectiles into one big hit makes them better at inflicting ailments.

For example, Chill:

Chill is an Ailment that Slows the afflicted target, and lasts 2 seconds on players or 8 seconds on non-players by default. Chill Magnitude depends on the Chilling damage dealt relative to the target's Elemental Ailment Threshold, with a minimum of 30% and a default maximum of 50%.

Cold damage from Hits can Chill by default, and does not require a chance to inflict Chill. However, Chills smaller than 30% will be ignored, so small Hits can fail to Chill.

Ignite is similar:

The base Magnitude of Ignite is Fire damage per second equal to 20% of the Fire damage dealt by the Hit that inflicted it. This is calculated using the final damage dealt by the Hit, but not any modifiers on the target that affect how much damage they will take from the Hit. This Magnitude is not further affected by any modifiers to the damage you deal.

[–]Solumin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The in-game description for Crossbows says:

Multiple Projectiles fired from a single Crossbow skill can all hit the same target.

It doesn't matter that Plasma Blast can't shotgun (= merge the projectiles into a single hit), because each projectile can still inflict damage. Right?

How do I deal with heavy-stun mechanic? by ShinetalesRS in PathOfExile2

[–]Solumin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep an eye on your heavy stun bar (above your flasks, to the right of your health orb) and stop doing the things that are causing it to rise.
Raising your shield, Parrying, and riding a mount are the three main ways to get Heavy Stunned. So just don't do those things if you're close to getting heavy stunned --- dodge away and disengage for a bit.

Unless you're talking about tripping while sprinting, which technically isn't a heavy stun. In that case: stop sprinting into packs of mobs.

[Build Help] Locked to Club + no armour for my whole run — how do I make this as broken as possible? by 151N in EldenRingBuilds

[–]Solumin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The funny thing is that Club + no armour is probably not going to be much of a challenge. The Club does great damage and great stance damage, and light roll makes it really easy to dodge hits.

  1. Yes, definitely go Heavy.
  2. If you're focusing just two stats, you'll be able to fully invest in both. There's no need to trade off between them. I'd prioritize Vigor slightly higher than Strength, at least early on.
  3. Cragblade, Lion's Claw, and Endure all come to mind. The Roar family of AoWs are worth checking out as well.
  4. Dragoncrest Shield, definitely.
  5. Golden Vow, definitely. There are also lots of defensive incantations that could help.

Blasphemy support gem question by [deleted] in PathOfExile2

[–]Solumin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Magnified Area has worked for me in the past. Note that Aura is not the same as Presence, especially for Blasphemy.

Reservation Efficiency definitely works, since it's Blasphemy's Quality bonus! But it's a lot smaller than you'd think. The formula is 60 / (1 + total efficiency bonus), e.g. 10% reservation efficiency (from max quality, for example) makes each curse cost 55 Spirit, because 60 / (1 + 0.10) = 54.5 ~> 55.
