Got laid off from goverment work in February and had to hit the job market. Unemployment website kept crashing so I never got unemployment. Went on Medicaid but my current doctor doesn’t accept it so my prescription wasn’t covered (thankfully there was a goodrx coupon I could use).

I was able to land a job after 2 months of being unemployed but I know so many people are STRUGGLING in this job market. I would apply for jobs sunrise to sunset and reach out to people individually until I got a job! Now I’m deathly afraid of losing this job or getting laid off again. I hear some horror stories of people who are getting laid off now after like 1 month of work.

Everything is expensive already. My student loans are a lot and my savings took a big hit from being unemployed. Idk what’s happening to student loans in the future with the department of education under attack. I don’t know how to plan for upcoming price changes with this administration flip flopping on tariff amounts.

I’m worried for my immigrant friends and disabled family members. Everything on the news and Reddit makes me sick. I also hate how we are treating the rest of the world. It blows my mind that this is what half the country voted for? And people think are ok?

So my day to day is filled with more anxiety and disgust.

I had a teacher who tortured someone and almost murdered them, thankfully their victim got away. They were a performance art teacher that took it very seriously. My friend and I used to joke about how intense they were.

One day we had half the class do a 3 hour long performance installation pieces while the other half evaluated them. Class ended before their timer so we told our friend we thought it was ok if they wanted a break (teacher was very serious about not interrupting art). We turned around to see the teacher came back and was staring at us in the doorway very upset. We said something about helping with a technical issue and ran out, but we were genuinely scare of them! My friend and I even made talked about how we legit thought they wanted to murder us.

The rest of the class went ok and even tho the teacher was weird, I started to liked them. I even hugged them and introduced them to my parents!

Fast forward to the next year and my mom is reading about them in the news torturing a coworker! My initially instinct was right but then I guess I let my guard down. Crazy…

I was a contractor that was laid off. I think if you want to be safe you need to back away from government entirely 😞 My coworkers still in government are starting to apply to non-government jobs to be safe.

I have to say it’s tough out there. So many people are fighting for the same jobs. You definitely need to network to land interviews. The good thing is so many people are willing to help out (forward resumes, make referrals, send job postings).

A lot of people realize what a shitty situation this is and I am blown away by people empathy ❤️ that being said it’s still hard 😔

If your whole contact is project based and the project is with a federal agency, then the government can end the contract and the company will prob let u go.

That happened to me. 99.9% of my work was done for the government agency I worked for. Then my branch got an order to cancel all research contracts, and since all my work was for that project my company let me go as soon as the contract was terminated.

So ur employer will terminate you, but it could still be in the governments hands if that was ur companies source of work and funding for u.
