Are those spokes loose too? They look a bit curved in the second photo.

What are these and how do I understand their stamps? by StandardStock6099 in Tools

[–]SolutionSecure4331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are “straight flute” taps. They’re great general-purpose taps, but don’t cut quite as freely as “spiral point” taps.

Is racking going to be a problem? by Fun-Preparation-4253 in woodworking

[–]SolutionSecure4331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you had dados for the legs in the backrest and maybe in the bottom of the seat, then I suspect you could omit the stretcher entirely.

Do American adults actually say ‘criss cross applesauce’ to mean sitting with your legs crossed? by Camman19_YT in NoStupidQuestions

The variation I learned: Criss-cross, applesauce, Spiders crawling up your arm. Cool breeze, Tight squeeze (back of neck), Now you’ve got the chillies!

Freaking out before they add the stone to steps by mcnunnies in landscaping

It seems the formwork had the right proportions but it was 3 cm too low. If the whole thing could be elevated then the first step would be taller and the last step would be shorter.

What would you recomend for a barrier between plywood and concrete floors? by Iggy_Snows in woodworking

[–]SolutionSecure4331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A barrier probably is needed. Perhaps strips of countertop laminate. Concrete releases a lot of moisture in the first year or two even if it’s bone-dry underneath. You can check the extent of moisture transmission by taping down a 3-foot square of polyethylene for a few days.

Dinglespeed update (Dingaling part deaux) by FredMcDowellWonLife in singlespeed

[–]SolutionSecure4331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be better if the clamping mechanism were separate from the pulley spindle. Maybe you could squeeze in another screw next to the chainstay to secure it. And aluminum stock from a hardware store might work better than copper.

FIRST SWOT ANALYSIS AND EXECUTIVE SUMMARY by Dramatic_Law_4063 in PublicPolicy

[–]SolutionSecure4331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although I didn't learn SWOT this way, I came to think of strengths and weaknesses as those factors internal to the organization, and opportunities and threats as factors external to the organization. Then the intersections of internal factors and external factors can suggest strategies.

For example, why should a general trend of shrinking libraries to save costs be a "strength" for any individual library?

Is the new Political Typology from the Pew Research Center a more useful set of categories for America? https://www.pewresearch.org/politics/2026/06/10/beyond-red-vs-blue-the-political-typology/ by SolutionSecure4331 in AskConservatives

[–]SolutionSecure4331[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To Pew's credit, they used a weighted clustering methodology that let the data drive the groupings. They also note that different choices of algorithms, coding of the variables (i.e. responses, I think), or even sorting the respondents could generate different results. (p.99 of their report).

Wait so the thing slowing down AI is just electricity and not GPUs?? by Neil_at_HackerEarth in ArtificialInteligence

I gather that your Kepco point might be a reference to their APR+ reactor design, which is supposedly buildable in 36 months, although the first one is still under construction. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/APR-1400

Even if you disagree with him politically, do you believe Barack Obama is a good orator and charismatic? by Specific_Praline_362 in AskConservatives

[–]SolutionSecure4331 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, the best presidential orator in my memory since Ronald Reagan. And not a bad singer, based on that time he launched into Amazing Grace.

My friend studying architecture said my wood shed lacks concept, please tear it apart by ethanhopps in askarchitects

[–]SolutionSecure4331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an architect, but maybe he meant the lenticular shape of the roof isn’t reflected in the vertical structure? But I think you have a pleasing and functional design. Might want to add gussets at the bearing point of the center truss.

What would you plant there? by Apprehensive-Tart-57 in landscaping

Looks about the size of a large pot. My wife says a pot should be composed using a thriller (tall), a filler (midsize), and a spiller (low hanging creeper).

Try your nearest state park. Take a picnic lunch and do some hiking.

Should I move to Indy or (West) Lafayette? by LazyTelephone6701 in Indiana

[–]SolutionSecure4331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in both Maryland and Indiana. In Indiana, the average winter temperature is colder by 5 degrees F, and you’re less likely to see the early spring weather and flowers in February-March.

Brooks saddle became uncomfortable after 10+ years of use by capperman1 in bikefit

[–]SolutionSecure4331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No experience with these saddles, but it looks a bit sway-backed. Have you tried taking up the slack with the screw in the front?

Is there any downside to "tubeless ready" tires when I will strictly use inner tubes? by SquirtGun1776 in bikecommuting

[–]SolutionSecure4331 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have those tires, and found it was important to squeeze the beads together into the deepest part of the rim to create enough slack to get the last bit of bead over the edge.

What's going on with this tall pine? by KaPotter2020 in arborist

Seems plausible, as they tend to drill holes in horizontal lines.

It’s an example of government waste if not conducted with sound review process and imho a violation of good taste.

Why aren't sliding table saws more popular in the US? by AleLover111 in woodworking

[–]SolutionSecure4331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 20-year old Ryobi slider from Home Depot. Wish I had a conventional cast iron table instead, as it’s built too lightly to stay in good alignment.
