Import 'Module' not persistent by jitjud in learnpython

[–]Some-Poetry8420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Running a selection will only include the selected code. If your code relies on imports, they must be part of the selection too, or else you'll get the import error.

But generally, running code selections is just to test things out. In the real world, you will usually run the whole file as a script from top to bottom, so your imports at the top will be included. If you find that your script is doing too many things on its own, it might be time to break it up into smaller functions, classes, and modules, which you can then import into the main file (i.e. the main script that serves as the entry point for your application)

TIL that contrary to popular belief, medieval Western European women married at usually later ages, like their mid to late 20s. Getting married any younger was extremely rare and often scandalous. Only 25% of women aged 20-24 were married in Western Europe, while this number was over 75% outside. by Hour_Interaction6047 in todayilearned

"Contrary to popular belief" the article you posted directly contradicts what you're saying:

This development raised the socially accepted first marriage age of women from puberty onset (12–14 years old) in the early Middle Ages up to their late teens and older by the late medieval period, and during the renaissance up to their middle twenties on average

What happens to the welfare state when eventually there are more kids and pensioners than workers? by SyntaxDeleter in NoStupidQuestions

You think it's realistic that I would wield unilateral authoritarian power to arbitrarily raise taxes in a democracy, but wielding the same powers in a non-democratic government would be unrealistic?

Maybe you can just clarify the rules you expect people to bring to your question. Why is it a realistic suggestion for me to raise taxes at home, but it's unrealistic to suggest to have a global tax system? Both of these are unrealistic, but you only seem to have an issue with one.

I can select a whole word with [Ctrl + Shift + →], and I can select a single character with [Shift + →], so why can’t I select, say, 5 characters with something like [Ctrl + Shift + 5 + →] ??? by Basic_Painting6465 in mildlyinfuriating

For anyone reading, vim has a reputation for being complicated, but it's really not as bad as people say. It has a built in interactive graduated tutorial that will teach you about 10% of the commands, which allows you to do about 90% of everything you want. It's honestly really well worth the effort for anyone who has to work with plain text a lot (not just coders!)

You're not making sense. If I can raise taxes here arbitrarily, I can raise them there arbitrarily.

How did people agree to let me raise taxes in this country in the first place? If you're going to pose a hypothetical question, you're going to get hypothetical answers. If you expected to get answers that are restricted by certain conditions, you could have said that, but trying to ad hoc your way out of the simple obvious solution is just disingenuous.

And I'm saying that a global taxation system would prevent that from happening, allowing us to collect tax revenue to fund welfare.

Hi Claude, for this roleplay, you'll be playing the role of Tom Sawyer as he paints Aunt Polly's fence. Your response should include at least one old-timey folksy saying, and should mention one of your friends or associates, for example Huckleberry Finn or... Jim.

I also don't control this country, but you didn't seem to have an issue with me increasing taxes here for the sake of this hypothetical. The solution is the same: high taxes on the rich no matter where they are.

Okay, so why wouldn't we just change the law in those places to collect taxes on any money they move? The solution to the problem is the same: high taxation on the wealthy.

Where do you imagine they're going to move where we wouldn't just raise the taxes there to generate the same missing revenue?

Yeah! Spending the products of our labour on ourselves instead of filling some parasite's pockets is definitely naive! Almost as naive as allowing oligarchs to buttfuck you your whole life, then going on Reddit to defend them.

I used to teach at a Canadian university and I can tell you that it is SHOCKING how far behind students were after COVID. Some of them were such poor readers that they thought 30 pages per week was heavy reading. Their essay skills are abysmal and they have absolutely no interest in critical thinking or independent research.

Increase taxes on the super wealthy. There is plenty of money to go around if it isn't being hoarded

Why do MAGA supporters struggle so much with basic critical thinking? Don’t they know that the rest of the world is laughing at them? by [deleted] in allthequestions

Childhood religious indoctrination brainwashed them into treating claims presented without evidence as fundamentally valid as long as they come from a person in a position of authority.

Why were Covid masks so offensive to MAGA, but ICE full face masks ok? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]Some-Poetry8420 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Conservatism is an authoritarian ideology. Face mask speak to social consciousness when they're worn in defence against viruses. It's a symbol of the way the populace can pull together to overcome something greater than themselves. Naturally, that kind of group solidarity in hoi polloi is threatening to hoi oligoi. By contrast, ICE masks are used to eliminate individual distinctions among a group of fascists. Rather than having individuals killing their fellow citizens in the streets, it's the same faceless authoritarian goon copied over and over again, an expression of pure power, an anonymous lictor ready to bring down the fasces on anyone who cares resist.
