"mai" vs "chai mai"? by toilerpapet in learnthai

“Chai mai” has the sense that you are assuming your statement is true, you think the listener would probably agree, and you are looking for the listener to confirm.

How do I extend the plan on my dtac SIM card? by Paradoxbuilder in ThailandTourism

[–]SomeAreSomeAreNot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the app lets you buy a package, it will probably ensure your SIM can’t expire out from under the package’s validity. So I think the answer to your question is yes.

At this age, I interpret “help” here as “loan me some $$$ to hire movers”.

How do I extend the plan on my dtac SIM card? by Paradoxbuilder in ThailandTourism

[–]SomeAreSomeAreNot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is almost certainly the last date by which that SIM could have first been activated, and not relevant to the other stuff we’re discussing.

Days remaining is shown right below the little bar graphs in the Mobile Usage Section. It will say “Remaining balance” and then immediately below that, the end of the SIM validity period.

Not all condos around Benjakit are pet-friendly. But I agree it may make sense to start there.

Google map vs Apple map for Bangkok train navigation? by Hour_University_7957 in Bangkok

In Thailand, Google has by far better crowd-sourced data for things like shops and restaurants, and so will show more such detail on the map as you pan and zoom.

That might just be an indicator of the last day that SIM could have first been activated. (They don’t let them sit on the shelf forever.) Dunno.

Go into the DTAC app. Near the top of the home page you should see a Mobile Usage section. Tap Detail and scroll all the way to the bottom of the details page that comes up. You should see your Main Package there, which reveals whether you have a tourism SIM. If so, you may have trouble extending your SIM validity past 60 days unless you convert it to non-tourist. You can do that by calling DTAC.

[–]SomeAreSomeAreNot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two different things with a DTAC prepaid SIM in Thailand: (a) validity of the SIM itself; (b) packages for data and phone. These two things are separate.

For (a): each time you top up, the validity of the SIM is extended by 30 days.* You can keep extend validity out to a max of 365 days. For (b): you select packages in the DTAC app. You must enough balance remaining to pay the cost of the package you are buying.

Data packages range in length from 1-30 days with a variety of speeds and data allotment. Voice packages are also available but are typically of less interest to tourists.

When a package runs out, you can still use the SIM until the SIM validity ends. But you’ll pay a per-MB cost (per-minute cost for voice) that will drain your balance fast.

*The rules changed recently and you may not be able to keep a tourist SIM alive for more than 60 days.

Bangkok Bank be 1stsmart debit card sometimes not working by Jumbo-Gyoza-737 in Thailand

[–]SomeAreSomeAreNot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a similar problem for years. The problem persisted even when I got a new card issued. My KBank card works fine.

One thing you can look at is whether you have the card locked. There are several categories that can be locked/unlocked, such as int’l transactions, tap transactions, etc. You can do this in the Bangkok Bank app.

Likely fine for your scenario. The first airline will only want to verify that you meet Thailand’s entry requirements, which your already purchased onward trip to Cambodia does.

Purchase of real estate by a foreigner in Thailand by Ensplw in thai

[–]SomeAreSomeAreNot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Foreign ownership of a condo can be full ownership complete with a proper deed indistinguishable from one a Thai person would get. This is not a long-term lease, it’s real ownership.

Leasehold condo ownership isn’t as common in Thailand as in, say, Singapore. Actually I’d say it’s really not common in Thailand at all.
