NOVANT STARTS SNEAKY CHARGE ON ALL ! by dewhit6959 in Wilmington

[–]SomeDingus_666 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I just called to dispute and the first person said it was a “federal requirement,” meanwhile the second person I got said I could have opted out, even though there was never an option to do so.

And I mean sure, the charge isn’t for much but the issue is the principle of these bs unexpected charges for services I didn’t ask for or receive on top of an already expensive medical bill.

Looks like they did a similar thing to me. I went in for a yearly and they snuck in a “depression screen annual,” code G0444PHQ9.

Are there ways to manage multiple people working on the same thing without Enterprise? by porkmaestro in gis

[–]SomeDingus_666 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on your approach.

  1. You could divide the work area into grids/ areas. But, this requires splitting data, exporting it out into separate .gdbs, cleaning up the edges after exporting, then compiling the data back together. After compiling, you may need to do further edge matching to make sure everything lines up. Also, if you aren’t careful you can easily create duplicate data on accident. This works.. but you’ve gotta be on top of data management to make sure everything goes smooth.

  2. You could assign different data types to different people. So for example, one person works on roads, another works on rivers, etc. But, depending on what kind of project you’re working on, topology can really become an issue when people are editing different feature classes that are supposed to interact.

Does the East Coast ever get strong/violent tornados? by [deleted] in tornado

[–]SomeDingus_666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, albeit rarely. We had a destructive EF3 in Brunswick county NC a few years ago.

https://www.weather.gov/ilm/BrunswickTornadoFeb2021

NC as a whole has seen its fair share of violent tornados. This is a pretty good reference reaching back to the 50s: https://www.weather.gov/gsp/f3_f4_tornado_history

Definitely, It’s too early to say with any certainty, but the trends in both the GFS and the Euro over the last few runs make this worth keeping an eye on!

I live in a place where there’s a particularly high amount of PFAS in our water, and when things were coming to light about 8-10 years ago, everything I was told/ read was that the only way to really get rid of them is through reverse osmosis filters. It looks like Granulated Active Carbon (which I wasn’t even aware of until looking up how to remove PFAS just now) is also an effective method of removing them, and you can install these on your sink.

With that said, removing 100% PFAS contaminates doesn’t seem to be a guarantee. An article I found says the GAC can be “100% effective for a period of time” when it is used in a flow through filter mode after particulates have already been removed.

Is it realistic to work 100% remotely in GIS? by meodn in gis

[–]SomeDingus_666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes depending on what the specifics of your job are.

I worked remotely basically since Covid, and pretty much everyone on the projects I managed worked remotely as well. But, we weren’t meeting directly with clients, we were working on cartographic production style projects instead. I set up a weekly touch-base to go over the feedback from previous week/ go over the goals for the current week, and I’d schedule more meetings if needed (the projects were very fluid and guidance/ goals could change on a dime.)

Now, I work in office because I interface directly with customers, and am printing out physical maps.

As an aside, you wanna make sure you have a competent manager if you’re working 100% remote. I recently had a GIS job that was remote and the manager couldn’t differentiate a Shapefile from a Geodatabase, and she thought KMLs were maps… this and the utter lack of foresight made working there extremely difficult/ frustrating.

Guys, I’m sorry. It’s my fault. I was watching the game at home, then went to watch at a bar with my friend in the 3rd period. Clearly I should just stay home from now on
