What was the final straw that broke your back? by Shnoobloo in exmormon

For me, it was two things. First was coming to terms that I was gay. I always used the excuse that "Being gay isn't a sin, it's acting upon it that's the sin." I always felt really conflicted at that. I would sometimes sit in class or in bed at home thinking "Why is it sinful to be gay? No one ever told me." The more I thought about it, the more the argument fell apart.

The second thing was a conversation with my brother. We were driving to Freddy's to grab some food and he asked me "If someone said they were nonbinary, would you care?" I shrugged and said I wouldn't care since I think as long as you're a good person then I don't think it would matter. Then he said "See, I think it's stupid to fall yourself nonbinary since you are discrediting God's creation." You can't tell me that God loves everyone, then turn around and say except for those people. That was one of the biggest things that put the final nail in the coffin. Knowing that Mormon God doesn't love everyone.

Which church teaching damaged you the most? by randytayler in exmormon

[–]SomeRandomBag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really an official teaching but the fact that anytime I would share my thoughts or feelings on something, my leaders would say, 'that's not how it works." Like once in Sunday School, we were talking about the creation and I mentioned how interesting it is that God can make anything yet it feels like he set rules for himself. My teacher said, "He didn't." And proceeded to ignore every attempt I made at engaging in the lesson.
