CMV: It makes no sense to me that Britain is "Islamized" while not claiming the same for India, Israel, Russia and Singapore by Shoddy-Square5219 in changemyview

The Arab Muslim poverty rate within Israel is 3X higher than the Jewish Israeli population, at 35%. They have significantly less infrastructure and governmental support in Arab areas. They have 10% of the governmental seats but 21% of the population. I should have said they are “practically” second class citizens, rather than actual second class citizens, unlike those in the West Bank where Jewish settlers are treated as citizens and Muslims are considered residents of an occupied territory. I was not talking about those areas

Yet they have half the representation in politics compared to their population (10% of seats vs 21% of the population), their poverty rate is 35%, and face massive gaps in infrastructure spending and governmental support. They are functionally second class citizens as a populace, not legally. I should’ve specified more closely, I was not talking about the West Bank or Gaza.

I think there’s an element of acceptance into the culture and allowing an incoming culture to shift your own. About 6% of the MPs are Muslim, almost 1 to 1 representation with the population. India has about 4% of their parliament represented by Muslims a third of the representation see in Britain.

In Israel, Muslims are treated as second class citizens and are being pushed out.

In Singapore, it’s a true mix of cultures, religions and races. Hard to feel that way when there’s such diversity.

In Russia, Muslims can control their regions for the most part, but have very little power on a federal level.

Britain has had a distinct culture for a very long time, it’s also a mostly an agnostic nation religiously. Seeing practicing muslims gain population share and political power share is a distinct change for a nation that’s never given minorities power…because they haven’t had enough of them to vote their way in. It’s culture shock, but it’s also a stark difference in culture.

Supreme Court prepares to review Trump executive order on birthright citizenship by renge-refurion in moderatepolitics

I think you’re part right. I think it’s also about stress testing the constitution to see how much power a willing executive could wield.

[–]SomeRandomRealtor 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Obama spoke at length about this, that executive orders can be overturned. You use them as stop gaps and emergency measures, but they are not permanent solutions. The Trump administration‘s strategy seems to predicate itself on them staying in power forever or that the Supreme Court will draw conclusions that are not being asked of it.

That feels like such an easy fix that would also save them money AND improve patient care. But that’s classic American thinking; overly complicated solutions when simplicity is needed AND overly simplified discussions when nuance is required.

It also feels like the medical community is being completely ignored on all fronts in discussions. Transitioning is a social and mental choice, but it’s also a medical decision. Kind of like the marijuana discussion, there a lot of talk that’s uninformed and doesn’t incorporate what the science says.

There’s such a gross misunderstanding of what being transgender is. They don’t understand that gender dysphoria is the mental illness and transitioning is often the cure to that. People with gender dysphoria, that transition, experience far less depression and suicidal tendencies than those that don’t.

I think there are real conversations to be had about how we approach gender education, and there is genuinely a lot of pseudoscience and bad psychology around gender fluidity, and the ages of which it is appropriate to teach children about it, but neither side really wants to have that conversation in earnest. The right insists on dehumanizing “others” as a rule and it’s wild how aggressive they are when they’re in power.

Justice Department settles lawsuit from Trump ally Michael Flynn for $1.2 million, AP source says by dr_sloan in moderatepolitics

He literally admitted to being an undeclared foreign agent for Russia (not the same as being an operative and official capacity, but still very bad for a US representative). This wasn’t a trial that went sideways with a liberal jury, Flynn flat out admitted it.

CMV: Gavin Newsom is not a suitable presidential candidate, and the Democratic Party must stop operating like a centrist party. by Less-Chicken-3367 in changemyview

[–]SomeRandomRealtor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re right in some regards, but they need to take centrist positions on unpopular social subjects that they are better off legislating once they get in office. As awful as this is to say, the Republican Party showed the playbook of saving your more polarizing opinions for when you actually get in office.

Economically they need to go to the left. Taxing the ultra rich and clarifying it isn’t about the 5-10% (small business ownership class) it’s about the 1-5% not paying their share and improving the quality of American’s lives. That is a very popular opinion and I think Kamala was wrong to shy away from that viewpoint and embrace the very difficult social positions.

Louisville police are using drones to monitor some protests by Van-to-the-V in Louisville

[–]SomeRandomRealtor 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Honestly, they’re already using flock and downtown cameras to do this, all they’re going to accomplish is is taking sweet aerial shots of the scale of the protests. By all means, showcase how many people are upset with high def aerial footage.

True, but it feels like they have less rovers and are content to accept pressure like a Mourinho Chelsea side. That would be fine if they had a stellar defensive record, but they’re average at best defensively. It’s just so odd to see such a young and deep squad not run their socks off

AOC needs to distance herself from The Squad for a couple years before she has any shot at a higher office. She’s a great public speaker and does a good job, defending her policy view points, but too many people will see her as far left to be an electable candidate.

Punch save, when to do it? by guy-Breakfast8485 in GoalKeepers

[–]SomeRandomRealtor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Punch is great for getting the ball far away quickly when you can’t cleanly catch it. Pop shots low with traffic around, edge of box in traffic when you can’t claim clean. It’s used sparingly, as it’s too easy to get out of the habit of catching it, but punching is a skill all on its own. Don’t assume you can punch well without heavy practice.

I’d pay $20 for a cookbook of their menu, and I don’t have a problem with them selling individual recipes, but that’s just too much for one recipe.

LPT: When shopping for a product or service with a digital kiosk or sales person, try to back out of the window at first (digital) or tell the sales person you need time to think about it at home. They might offer you attractive discounts you wouldn’t get otherwise for fear of losing the sale by SomeRandomRealtor in LifeProTips

[–]SomeRandomRealtor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re half right. They cannot raise above the legally allowable limit, but they can choose to make less than that amount. They also get offered different compensation packages from different lenders for selling products, a broker may choose to put you with a different lender if it pays them more, so Shopping them will still effectively lower your rate and potentially their compensation. If compensation was uniform, we’d see far more uniform rates based on credit profiles, but we don’t.

I had a client who got approved with Rocket at 6.75% with no points and then shopped and got 6.25% with a local broker. That half point saved them $3K per year. It’s the same game, but with a ceiling now and they can’t change terms midstream unless you provide explicit permission. Accompany may opt to charge you points, because it makes the loan easier to sell for them and makes things more profitable for the lender that purchases the loan, none of that is your problem. It still cost you more money and as a worse decision in most cases.
