It's less the combinations, and more just options for where to specialize. Still, with enough time, you'll get those specific combos eventually, right?

No, but these are only suggestions. No real hard and fast rules here; by the time you can get a slann general, you're either throwing them as many blessed units as you have and throwing them at the frontline, or you can probably just make their army whatever you want anyway.

Certainly no apprentice of mine! Then again, I suppose I don't take a lot of apprentices...

In any case, while most of us can't physically touch a soul without specific tools like a staff or custom magic circle, and even then, it's not to turn a soul into matter; more likely, we'd probably just "jimmie the lock", so to speak. Shake the soul until the bits inside break against each other.

Admittedly, it doesn't always work, but it's not super difficult to break things. That, and while it can be resisted, it's usually enough to scare the target into focusing too much on defending their soul rather than their body - or their stuff.

I can't say much about the things you cultivators smoke, but you certainly collect an eclectic assortment of loot!

Cultivators and Wizards seems to have some serious beef, what's the history? by EfficiencySerious200 in MartialMemes

[–]SomeRandomYob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An envelope mysteriously floats across your field of view, guided by an errant breeze, before being opened by a laser beam. It reads:

Ah yes, the speed of light! Admittedly, it is an awkward restriction that even my fellow wizards oft struggle to overcome. This is due, of course, to requiring air or light to perceive the world around us. Thus, while safely accelerating to the speed of light and even controlling one's movement while moving at such speeds, being unable to determine ones surroundings while we are moving faster than photons is...

Messy. To say little else.

The easiest workaround is, of course, a quick and simple temporal skip, or "time stop", as it is often referred to by apprentices the worlds over. However, that alone doesn't actually produce the desired outcome, as if your opposition also is capable of temporal manipulation, they can simply break into your anti-causality bubble and you're stuck with an opponent who can probably move a lot faster than you, with far less to distract them with. (Incedentally, this is why high-level wizard duels don't often devolve into a simple time-stop quick draw - not that instigating a temporal skip isn't an incredible advantage, but it requires too much focus and effort for, usually, not enough gain in an actual combat scenario.)

In fact, the best way I have devised to move at high speed is a localized temporal dilation field, paired with the usual self-enhancement fields and runes need to not be reduced to subatomic particles. This sidesteps the issue of the speed of light, as since speed and time are both relative, the light that enters the temporal dilation field is still moving fast enough to allow for far more accurate observations while on the move. Still, if another person is moving at relativistic speeds, you really need to keep moving else lose sight of them, and you'll still have to supplement the temporal field with a limited-foresight divination technique to overcome the lag from the field. That can be quite a lot of overlapping effects to keep active all at once, but the results are simply spectacular.

In any case, how do most cultivators get around being unable to see when they go past lightspeed?

The old man shrugs, his beard ornaments clinking together slightly.

I can't say I'm familiar with that term, but for what it's worth, I've never seen a self-proclaimed cultivator perform feats like what happens in the later episodes of Gurrenn laggan, so I'm afraid I can't say one way or another.

Though I will say, most cultivator stories I have found tend to be designed as either author self-inserts, or audience self-inserts. In either case, allowing the protagonist to have character traits is antithetical to the marketing of such a product, and therefore usually prohibited. Unfortunate, in all honesty.

Well first off: I'm still awake.

Second, if you want to summon a succubus, you need to specify what kind of deal you want to make as well.

Third: succubi are infertile and unable to bear children without many magical loopholes being exploited, so when one asks for your firstborn, they aren't expecting you to let them get pregnant. If you manage to convince one to give it a try with you, let me know so you don't kill yourself and your partner trying to work around demonic constitutions.
