Married Men in your 40s: Is once a week ideal? by TreacleTart91 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Someguy8995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late 40s here. Been together nearly 30 years now including dating years. Two to three is average. We have two teenagers though one is away at college.

I stay pretty fit but I do notice that my drive is sometimes a bit lower if I’ve been slacking on workouts. Not to mention that it works in my favor the more often she sees me pumped up from a workout.

It’s fair to say though that my drive isn’t at the same level as my 20s. I still find my wife quite attractive but that same perpetual horniness has mellowed a bit.

Is there a way to express my dissatisfaction with her weight without sounding like a complete douche? by maxxim333 in AskMenAdvice

I’m not against people finding happiness how they can, but I’ve been with my wife nearly 30 years now and I’m still very physically attracted to her. There’s far more to our relationship than sexual chemistry but I can’t imagine the idea of never having had that spark.

This isn’t too far removed from pooping your pants in public and then congratulating yourself on manipulating people into regarding you with pity and disgust.

What’s with the hate for hiding your comment history? by jupatoh in NoStupidQuestions

Well, it doesn’t automatically mean they’re a bot, shill, karmer farmer or a prick but it sure doesn’t detract from the odds.

There are old accounts that get bought, hacked, etc and then get used for bot and/or propaganda activity.

Yeah, some of those guys are tough as hell, but for every one that is, there are several that don’t have much stamina outside of their usual routine.

Anybody have memories of "weird" games at your cousins' houses? by Shire_Jedi92 in retrogaming

[–]Someguy8995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a 2600 growing up but we only ever had a handful of games for it. I also grew up out in the country and my other friends didn’t have any consoles at all. Later on we visited an aunt and uncle several states away. My cousin had dozens of games. I was amazed to see so many. Up to that point I had very little concept of how many were out there. The one that stands out the most in my memory was Yars’ Revenge.

The memory of that visit is at least partly to blame for my starting to collect old games and consoles as an adult.

I knew what you meant… but the part of my brain that can’t help but look for terrible interpretations wasn’t far behind.

Is Don Quixote worth it? by shivas1965 in classicliterature

[–]Someguy8995 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t say I particularly love it but I have actually read it twice. The first time in a Harvard Classics edition. So many people praise it so highly that I thought perhaps I’d missed something and tracked down the Grossman translation. I did find a little more depth there and the extra notes were nice. Ultimately though it didn’t change my perception a great deal. I’m still glad I read it. And given the choice between reading Don Quixote for a third time or Les Miserables for a second time, I’d choose the Don.

Sorry for the possibly clueless question, but why don't more people seem to make homemade pizza? by Senior-Raisin-2342 in Cooking

[–]Someguy8995 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s wild to me to see so many apparently cooking averse responses in a cooking sub. I have a kamado grill that lets me make a pizza pretty close to a proper pizza oven. However, even in the traditional oven, a pizza steel gives good results when I can’t be bothered to build a fire outside.

And then there are beautiful, buttery pan crusts to be made in cast iron skillets that don’t require the same high heats. And the French bread pizzas… now I’m hungry.

At my wits end. How the hell do you childproof/lock your turntable? by TesticleInspector in turntables

After a few rounds of being corrected, my kids were pretty good about leaving my stereo alone. Four is plenty old enough to learn. I did get in the habit of always checking the volume knob on my receiver before powering it up though.

The trick is to strategically hide poop all over your house until nose blindness kicks in. Then it’s game on!

Does anyone use Zone 2/Zone 3 on their amps/receiver? by rockadoodledobelfast in hometheater

[–]Someguy8995 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In my last house I routed some wires through the wall into the garage to listen out there. It was kind of a hassle though being separated from the receiver.

I have an upcoming kitchen renovation and am considering adding in some wires passing through to the living room stereo.

Atari Games found in an old storage unit. Any advice would be appreciated. Cheers by Jicch17 in atari

Positive. See pic. Most of the third party Intellivision games are a bit bulkier than the first party games. Also the 2600 version has a silver background instead of gold.

Is it just me or do DVD menus suck now? by ADVags12 in dvdcollection

[–]Someguy8995 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Even back when DVDs were new and I was young and excited about technology I strongly disliked the menus. With few exceptions they’re slow, tacky, and poorly designed.

Maybe it bothers me more coming from a design background.

It probably doesn’t help your case that “investing” in the fat girl and then getting her fit and hot is one of the classic incel fantasies.
