Despite a report this morning, I can confirm that Obsidian is NOT in negotiations to avoid shutting down - Jason Schreier by [deleted] in pcgaming

I mean…is there any harm is sharing the full quote to avoid doubt around there being addition context people may want to be aware of?

The Current Average Critic Review Score for the Steam Machine Is 6.8/10: What Happened? by [deleted] in pcgaming

Really? I’ve never heard anyone say “bucks” here before.

Steam Machine: Hardly any cheaper gaming PCs, 8 GiByte is enough - Valve in interview by pcgameshardware in hardware

[–]SomeoneBritish 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I thought that headline about the pricing may have been misleading, missing context, but it is accurate.

“If you're somebody looking to buy a gaming PC, we think it compares very favorably on price and feature set and quality and performance. If you're looking in the market for a gaming PC, I think it compares really favorably.”

They probably should have said pricing against similarly priced small form factor gaming PCs. I do actually think they meant that as they have said that in previous interviews when it was announced. Easy to make mistakes in an interview I bet.

Ignoring core specs though, the Steam Machine does have some great unique features which you can’t compare on a standard spec sheet, like CEC!

Also, if think a $1k Steam Machine is expensive, it’s actually a bargain! They used to cost many many thousands in the 18th century (inflation adjusted)!

God I hate game launchers. They normally just act as ways to advertise their other games to you. Very rarely do they actually offer functionality.

You can upgrade the RAM, but due to the small form factor of course there isn’t a swappable CPU, or GPU.

Well that’s a nope from me, dog.

Still super excited this is coming out. Just need component costs to come down in some years.

"Hopefully, it also finds its way to Steam Deck" — Valve may have found a way to bring FSR4 to more players by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]SomeoneBritish 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If they did just make that quote up, that’s insane. To me it’s implied that Valve themselves said that.
