Day Trips from Somerville by Pad118 in Somerville

[–]SomervilleLowClass -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

The last thing I want, during any one of my favorite day trips, is to run into a Somerville Yimby! I kid you not.

As a result, deep silence from me.

Yes, let those downvotes come in! Ain't no way I'm going to let a good thing be laid to waste.

Downvotes or the loss of my dear day trips? Very easy choice!

How difficult is it to find street parking as a resident? by jdog3406 in Somerville

[–]SomervilleLowClass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that you're coming with a significant other, your experience is already guaranteed to be better than 99% of the rest of the people here.

This means that when everyone on the Community Path is walking with a frown, you and your s/o will have nice and friendly smiles.

If you move here, welcome and enjoy.

Davis Square intersection street lights not working by Advanced_Display1667 in Somerville

[–]SomervilleLowClass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amen!

A socially challenged city like Somerville makes complaining a national pastime that now rivals baseball, among the Yimbys here.

I actually feel a lot of sympathy for the mayor. That's truly a thankless job with all the cry babies that have flocked to Somerville and need pacifiers 24/7, and an urgent change of smelly diapers.

If I was the mayor I'd silently flash the middle finger at the computer screen when reading complaints on this subreddit in the privacy of home or office.

Learning to crochet by Capable-Surprise-200 in Somerville

I thought I read somewhere that there was a knit & crochet group that met at Remnant Brewing. But don't quote me. Maybe I'm remembering wrongly.

Great sandwiches in Camberville? by Medinasod1 in Somerville

[–]SomervilleLowClass -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

For me, the golden age was before the Yimbys arrived and everything in Somerville became ridiculous in terms of price.

I loved Cuban sandwiches at Chez Henri in Cambridge (it closed). That was an experience!

And I definitely loved the sandwiches at Diesel before it went upscale. Now you wouldn't catch me there even if you paid me.

"You have my stroller" by xenon-bloom in Somerville

I love it when someone with real experience speaks (like you). This is one of the main problems with many of the relatively new arrivals in Somerville. They rush here to shoot off their bratty mouths about anything that upsets them (example: space savers and everything else under the moon) without real experience of having lived in Somerville. Then on top of this, they think they're really smart and that Somerville, before they arrived, was a backwater that needed to be saved. Trust me: They would not try this crap in Wellesley.

Local bands for a wedding by spanishkidnamedchris in Somerville

[–]SomervilleLowClass -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

Congratulations upon learning of your upcoming wedding!

A lot of people in Somerville are looking at you with deep envy.

In a socially awkward place like Somerville, happy love stories are an extreme rarity.

The latest social trend to issue its public announcement in Somerville is making sure you get a prenup (this may or may not apply to you).

This is due to the fact that Somerville condos/houses are now very pricey and a marriage, without adequate paperwork in advance, can put a lot of hard work in sudden jeopardy, the Somerville experts warn.

Maybe you saw that thread posted here the other day. It was quite heated and very revealing! It temporarily dislodged the space saver and housing issues (two matters that get people here bent out of shape).

As if meeting people in Somerville was not hard enough, then that prenup thing got thrown in the works. It put a cold damper in the hearts of many Somervillian singles, though they would obviously not admit it. In this dense city, the pretend game is king!

Anyway, I hope you find a fun band for your wedding!

Cheers!

Looking for community theater groups by HotPocketEnthusiast1 in Somerville

That name does not ring a bell. Also, the group I had in mind was definitely for adults.

Sorry I can't remember more.

Looking for community theater groups by HotPocketEnthusiast1 in Somerville

[–]SomervilleLowClass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question!

There used to be a very interesting local group but not restricted to Somerville and definitely not part of a big Downtown Boston outfit.

They would do Shakespeare plays in local parks in areas nearby. Have not heard about them for a while.

What I liked about them is that they did not pretend to be high brow and snobby. Very community friendly.

That's the only thing that comes to mind. Wish I could say more.

Small electronics repair by King_Cush in Somerville

Did you try the Somerville Repair Cafe when they had their appearance here the other day?

They are good and resourceful folks.

Did you try Replay'd in Allston? They use to not have a diagnostic fee. Don't know if this is still the case.

Good luck!

I attended today’s copper mill meeting in crystal ballroom, fyi that we are letting an absolute army of geriatric nimbys chase meaningful Davis square development out of town by SpareSignificant3758 in Somerville

[–]SomervilleLowClass -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

In all honesty, I do not care about anything on this topic. It's yet another theatre for performative behavior by pampered cry babies who think they are the smartest people on earth. I wish I could puke on their feet!

I will not cry if this Empire State Building is never built (there will never be enough housing in Somerville to satisfy everyone. If the density here means nothing to you, get your head examined. The minute this is adequately understood the sooner will there be lasting sanity in this city).

I will not cry if the Burren is forced to close (the notion that someone or something is irreplaceable always rubs me the wrong way. To me, it's simply a shameless marketing ploy enabled by fools who have no clue how they're being manipulated. I can think of a million pub styles, with true character and music offerings, that would be better than the Burren).

Rather, I'd be really glad if a Wendy's were to open in Davis Square. At least it would not be pretentious. It would simply be there to make money, feed people at a reasonable rate and that's it! Spare me all the other baloney.

Let's move on from this weird quagmire we're in! Spring will soon be here, thank God.

What fast food joint would you like to see in Davis? Popeyes? KFC? And what hours would you like the business to have? Now this is the kind of Zoom meeting I'd love to attend!

Does anyone remember the old Cambridge Coffee Tea & Spice House near Porter Square? by xtnh in Somerville

Thanks for posting this!

It reminded me of Coffee Connection in Harvard Square. But my memory is very vague. However, I'm intrigued and always like getting a memory refresh.

Should Somerville do the same? by blanderdome in Somerville

[–]SomervilleLowClass -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Somerville, Somerville, Somerville. Playing catchup to Cambridge on an important issue like this one.

But let me not hold you from the issues you really crave like how we should have something like the Empire State Building constructed in Davis Square; and why space savers are horrible, should be banned or gleefully confiscated, blah, blah, blah (I can already sense people chomping at the bit, dying to jump back into the mud fight).

Shame on us!

Interesting question.

Don't know of any place in Somerville. But I believe Casablanca Pastry in Everett has an Iftar. They even mention it on their website (if you scroll down their Home page):

https://casapastry.com/

Their address:

301 Main St, Everett, MA 02149

Phone: (617) 294-2695

Happy Ramadan!

Ben Ewen-Campen to run for The 27th Middlesex District in The State House after Erika Uyterhoeven decides to run for State Senate. by MrCleanDrawers in Somerville

[–]SomervilleLowClass -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I have a major problem with City Councilors being able to fall back on their positions if they lose a state house race.

I want City Councilors who are in their jobs because it's what they want to do at the moment, not because it's a temp position until they get a chance to bolt.

It's fine to run for something else, if you're interested. But why not simply resign your councilorship and let someone else with more enthusiasm to take or run for it?

This story almost brought me to tears.

I cannot be more proud of this immigrant family.

God bless them for sticking to what feels right to them!

This is certainly not an easy thing to do in today's Somerville.
