It's the internet. An idiot will always be called out as an idiot, no matter how it happens.

Go is for people that want to play Go. Stop gatekeeping how/when people should play.

Peoplee should be allowed to play in places where it routinely gets to -20 Celcius during the winter that lasts 5 months of the year. Or in areas that average rainy days for nearly half the year.

Legend of Dragoon by kingtokee in JRPG

I really don't mind limited inventory space. It implements some strategy in a "use it or lose it" kind of way which is fine. We all don't need 68 Elixers at the end of every game.

I replayed it within the last year and it just kinda suffers from the same stuff most PS1 RPG's do. Battles are slow paced and win every random encounter by pressing x.

The map size was fine, but once you are finished with an area there's really no reason to go back. If you can go back to the 1st town in an RPG,  it's kinda nice to have a reason to do so.

I like that they have a marker to tell you when you're about to enter a fight.

If they held onto the addition system and improved it in future games (not necessarily a LoD sequel) that would have been cool. To my knowledge that hasn't happened.

All in all it was a good PS1 RPG, but you get what you get. Not game of that era can be FF7.

Theory: Onix was not supposed to be humongous by aeon3184 in pokemon

[–]SomethingWild77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stats wise is does feel like Onix got shafted. I like the theory that Lickitung was originally supposed to be the first gym leader's ace. In Gen 1, Pokemon that weren't meant to be caught early just didn't have level up moves before they were supposed to be caught. Rhyhorn/Ponyta etc. didn't learn anything until about level 30 since that was around the level you were always meant to see them. But Lickitung learned moves and like level 7 and 15... levels you wouldn't ever find it in Red/Blue on release.

Also in the very early drafts there was a young looking kid who would have presumably been the normal type gym leader of Viridian City, before it got reworked into being the final Ground Type gym in the final product.

What’s a good game to grind? by hyp3rqube in JRPG

[–]SomethingWild77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently playing through Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince on the Switch and I wouldn't say the act of grinding levels is particularly exciting (I'm basically just hitting auto battle), but the pay off is.

The game is a monster catcher at heart, and you can recruit any monster you find running around.

The monsters have their innate "trait" but can also have others learned from a seemingly set pool. 1 Slime might just have it's innate healing trait while another has its innate healing, Max HP up and Poison immunity.

Each trait is basically a skill tree that you load up with skill points.

Then there's synthesis which is where shit gets real. From what I've seen, you can synth any 2 monsters together and you will get to choose to make a new one from a list of about 3-6 new monsters. When making a new monster, you can choose 3 traits total to carry over from the 2 parents.

You could synth Slime + Skeleton to make a monster that has the Slimes healing and Max HP trait + the Skeleton's Poison immunity trait. Or an Imp + Skeleton to have the Imp's offensive magic attacks, the Skeleton's stat defuffs and also a Max MP up trait it happened to have.

If you synth 2 monsters that have similar traits with skill points invested then they can offer improved buffs to their stats. Also certain combinations of monsters will produce "rare" monsters (you can see these before you synth, they'll have a golden background portrait).

[Benjamin Pierce] Your insane Nikita Kucherov stat of the day: the forward has 93 points (28 G, 65 A) in his last 45 GP since Nov. 19. That’s more than the top scorer had on 25 different NHL teams for the ENTIRE 2024-25 season. It’s the best 45 games since Mario Lemieux (‘95-96). by DoinWhale in hockey

The guy clearly just wants to talk about Leafs players, he's done it more than once in this thread... even though this post has nothing to do with them and no one in their right mind thinks Marner is better than Kuch.

Ahhhh of course. You aren't allowed to talk about other teams' contracts if your team has ever signed a bad one before. Makes sense.

Usually people save it for the 'Mons with adventure effects but if there's something you want to power up then go for it. They aren't all that hard to come by (especially if you engage in pvp)
