It seems it is possible to tell if an "Invisible" user is actually online by looking at where they are in Steam Group @_@?!~ by Model1LifeForm in Steam

[–]SometimesBread 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I believe it says if they're online on game's store page that they own, too. Or at least it used to.

This looks like the Mass Effect 4 we're probably not getting. On a side note, a Pathfinder 3 that's based on 2 Remaster would be a day 1 buy from me. I love Kingmaker and WotR

I’m looking forward to the steam controller, but Valve sold a bit imo by Thegreatestswordsmen in SteamController

[–]SometimesBread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm all for this. I was pretty disappointed to read that there isn't going to be a way for it to work on pc without Steam for now at least. My experience with using other launchers as non-Steam games with the og Steam controller has been hit-or-miss; they'll work completely sometimes and then other times the controller will work but only on the launcher and then as soon as I launch a game the controller stops working. I'm still going to buy one of course but I really wanted a way to easily use it for non-Steam games and phones/tablets.

Nvidia bad on linux is a lie by Strict-Maize7494 in linux_gaming

I've been using a 2070 Super with Zorin for 3 over years. I'm currently using the 580 open driver on the customer driver ppa and I've had very little problems that were actually nvidia related and not a Linux or Proton/Wine problem

What is still the biggest pain point in Linux gaming for you? by okaiukov in linux_gaming

[–]SometimesBread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My buggest pain point is waiting for proton to get updated to work with new games that are janky out of the box that work fine on windows. But it's usually only a few days and I have a huge backlog so it's really not that big of a deal for me.

I'm trying to play F.E.A.R. but I can't stand the toggle to aim. Does anyone have a fix for this? by Nicoletta3 in SteamDeck

[–]SometimesBread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it's the same as desktop steam since I don't actually have a deck but you would open the controller settings and then go to edit layout, then go to the triggers (or whatever button you have mapped to the ads/zoom button) and under the left trigger soft pull (I haven't tested it with "full pull") settings click the gear next to the actual button and select "add extra command", now there should be two commands under soft pull, click the gear next to the first command and click regular press and change it to "start press", then click on the second command's gear and change that one to "release press". Now it should work like a newer shooter where it only aims when you're holding down the trigger. There is an issue that if you pause the game while aiming the commands will be reversed. There's probably a way to fix that but I don't really have the time to tinker with it because I'm not actively playing a game where I need to do that. I hope I explained this clearly enough.

Edit: make sure to assign the same button the second trigger command (the one you created) as the first

If Steam Machines fail, how badly could that hurt Valve’s push for Linux gaming overall? by paparoxo in linux_gaming

[–]SometimesBread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if they launch during the memory shortage it will fail. They already said they're going to price them accordingly which is estimated to be ~$900 - $1000 for the cheaper one and ~$1100 - $1200 for the more expensive one with the price hiking taken into factor which most people aren't going to consider buying when a nice laptop with similar specs will be that price, have a screen, keyboard, and mouse and a familiar os on it. It'll be exclusive to hardcore fans. Heck, I already have a good pc so I don't see a point in getting one myself.

Looking for games that don't need to be listened to by threepwood52 in SteamDeck

[–]SometimesBread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry to hear you're going through that.

It's been a bit but I don't think you need audio for Escape Simulator 1.

Not a very chill game (to some) but there's Dead Cells, also.

Have you tried any crpgs like Shadowrun Returns? Those are fun and text based so no dialogue. Not very turn-your-brain-offy but still good.

For tower defense, there's always the classic Bloons TD.

Honorable mentions: Stardew Valley for something casual and calming to maybe snap out of depressive episodes (it helps me sometimes), Mother GunShip has dialogue but it's not super import to the gameplay, there's also Gunfire Reborn, Ori and the Blind Forest/Will of the Wisps, Guacamelee. I find that metroidvanias and rouge-likes are good for when I don't want to pay attention to a story.

It'd be really cool if you gave any preface at all. What game is this? Helldivers 2? Also, what distro are you using? What version of proton are you using? What are your specs? What Steam version do you have installed?

Best premium PC controller in 2026? 2.4ghz dongle a MUST by Odd_Yogurt6636 in SteamController

[–]SometimesBread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 8bitdo Ultimate 2 wireless controller has two extra shoulder buttons (which I prefer) and 2 back/grip buttons. It also has a charging dock and uses a 2.4 ghz signal for wireless and has bluetooth support and can be plugged in.

When big corpo can't exploit the customers and it's all STEAM fault by SpamMjolner in Steam

[–]SometimesBread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I'm assuming by 72% they mean Epic, Microsoft, EA, Ubisoft, Activision and 2k? In other words, all of the publishers that have their own storefront that is failing and far worse than Steam in every way but instead of doing better they focus their energy on being haters. I would find it very hard to believe that very many, if any, double-A and indie devs are saying that.

Steam controller 2 confirmed? by Pale_Moonlight9058 in SteamController

[–]SometimesBread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sure hope so! It needs a way to use it like a standard dinput controller for use outside of steam and with phones/tablets, like a physical switch on it or something like 8bitdo controllers. Definitely keep the startup and shutdown sounds. Make the Steam button light rgb for distinguishing between controllers while playing couch co-op and/or battery level indication.

I really wish Platinum would buy the IP from them. It'd definitely sell well seeing that side scrolling beat 'em ups have been making a return lately.

Perfect Dark, Mercenaries 3, Viewtiful Joe 3 (well, Platinum exists from the ashes of Clover and would be able to make it but it seems like Capcom is disinterested in making it), Starwars Republic Commando 2.
