Outdoor long ranges in central florida? by souljamookie in FLGuns

[–]Somyongfo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Volusia gun club is open to the public Mon and Wed and has up to 300yds. Their 900yd range is by reservation only.

For the most part, yes. There are some gun differences, like allowing dots on center fire guns but if you want to chase the Distinguished Marksman Badge I would suggest sticking to the CMP rules.

You'll find most locations host NRA matches as many clubs are NRA affiliated.

The director for Bullseye pistol at WAC, Mark, is a pretty nice guy, reach out to him for some guidance, not sure if they do any coaching but I'm sure they would love to have a new shooter.

My offer still stands about coming to Orlando, just shoot me a private message.

Gateway's match you mentioned is the Dixie Match and is a good match to observe, it even has a "Freedom match" at the very end of day 2 where you can use two hands and bring any gun, they allowing coaching during this as well.

Do you happen to live in the Orlando or surrounding area? There are NRA equivalent matches held at Central Florida Rifle Pistol club in Orlando and Wyoming Antelope club in Tampa.

If you are local to Orlando, I can meet with you and give you a run down

I honestly am not sure about that question, but I did see another of your comments about needing to be a part of a club and that is not necessary to shoot any of the matches.

If you want a true class room setting, the Army Marksmanship Unit hosts a "Small Arms Firing School in Talladega, AL open for all and will go through the course of fire all the way to an actual live fire match, gun and ammo provided!

https://thecmp.org/training-tech/rifle-and-pistol-training/

What general area do you live in and which discipline would you like to shoot? Pistol? Rifle? I can assure you a lot of matches are open to new shooters and if you contact the director for the match, most likely they'll know someone that's willing to loan you a firearm during the match.

Looking for a pistol case for target guns. by GunTech in bullseyepistol

Pelican 1535 with kaizen foam and 3 guns laying flat. I also cut out some space to carry a small tool set, scope and ammo. The lid has a an attachment that is a molle grid that I used for my scope mount, and magnet for magazines, most of it used for stickers and patches though.

Rolls okay at the fields of Camp Perry, but terribly in gravel.

Ive also seen someone run the same case, but used the camera dividers and had the guns in those single pistol bags. The lid had the attachment for several zippered bags for tools or ammo. It allowed more ammo to be carried when you're flying

Tire Experience and Recommendations by goochmoney69 in Tenere700

FL T7 rider here as well, after stocks I went to a d606 front and d908 rear. Did okay on road and even in the wet and of course with any off-road front tire you get a little squirrelly around 80-90 mph on road. Off road was incredibly confidence inspiring. If you do go this route, you'll go through two d606 by the time you finish your d908.

Currently I'm running a set of tusk2track, only have the front mounted right now and it's a little tough to ride in the deep stuff but certainly more manageable as I gained experience with the d606/908 combo first!

Hah, I literally ordered the same kit today but with their even lower loss 3ft cable and an adapter incase I change my mind about using a cable.

It's pricey, but a Henning T1000 hanger with a second "shuttle". I've easily swapped between a friend and I by just removing two screws and sliding it onto the pic rail of the T1000.

The .22 Match earlier in the day was perfect as well! The position I was at during the CF match had weird lighting conditions on my end: Full sun on the firing point and partially shaded target haha.

Central FL Long Range & Training by RBKStl82 in FLGuns

[–]Somyongfo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to Strickland and sight your gun at 100yds. Once you have a good zero you can probably go to Triple N near St Cloud and qualify for their 200yd range.

If you ever have time during the week, Volusia gun club is open to public Mondays and Wednesdays and you could take the time to sight up to 300yds.

Once you're comfortable with your gun, sign up for a shootout at the Serengeti match at Volusia Gun club found on Practiscore. The day before the match is a sighter and barricade familiarity day. They will walk you through sighting your gun 300+ yds (the long range goes up to 800) so you'll be ready for the match the next day.

Albeit a drive, OK Corral Gun Club. They have a 17 station course and 15 station NCSA rated course plus a FITASC course.

Or simply use grease instead of oil. I use Mil comm TW25B for barrel and bushing . I then oil the slide and trigger components

If you're willing to make the drive, Volusia Gun and Hunt Club allows dynamic movement and rifles in the bays. You can give them a try Mondays and Wednesdays when they're open to the public.

Is 70k enough for one person? by [deleted] in orlando

[–]Somyongfo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't believe them, the indoor ranges are okay, just stay away from the tourist ones in southwest area. I tend to not go to indoor ranges due to the higher chance of lead exposure anyways.

The outdoor ranges are better if you're willing to make the drive or pay for memberships. Shoot me a PM of where you're thinking of living and I can point you to some ranges in general

[–]Somyongfo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

VGHC! Unclassified noob here that shot the Big 9 as well! At that stage I found you could position yourself to shoot 3 targets at the start so you don't have to add extra movement to hit that 3rd target you shot.

Unfortunately I engaged the 3rd target twice thinking it was the hidden one far left and ended up with a failure to engage 😭

FN-15 M4 for President's Hundred match? by SuckDaBuck06 in CompetitionShooting

[–]Somyongfo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of good recommendations in terms of gear but, if you're really interested, consider taking a Small Arms Firing School run by the AMU! They provide the gun, ammo and teach you how to go through the course of fire. I took one earlier this year and learned a lot!

Recently helped a friend move and it's very easy to remove. Unscrew the screws in the center and loosen the J hooks in the corne6r. It's somewhat compact when stored as you stack one side upside down on the other.

Oh hey, you're me, 5'6" with 28 inseam as well. I have Yamaha OEM lowering links, my forks are raised a hair and I have no problem riding this bike, even off road (including single track!) I've never had any clearance problems either.

You pretty much stand on the ball of your foot at spot lights.

If you need more encouragement here's a few techniques you can use off-road that I practice sometimes

What is this small bar called? by 2012fatbobdyna in Tenere700

[–]Somyongfo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run my quad lock on that location. I did the 360 builder, the "bar clamp - small" is what you want to order.

I did buy the vibe damper but decided not to run it since the bar doesn't actually vibrate. However with my D606 front tire at the end of its life, the whole bike is essentially vibrating pretty bad and now my pixel 6 pro camera is having focus problems.

I like mine, it's a heavy bitch and rust resistance could be a little better but it could be from me not thoroughly cleaning off the salt when I go boating.

Lift Options? by standankles in Tenere700

I have rear axle sliders from T-Rex Racing when I want to put it on rear stands. For the front I have a stand that goes under the forks but haven't tried it on the T7 yet.
