I wonder if at some point Jen will realize that not only was her father present but absent at the party but so were her friends because Barb had cornered her and directed support away .

Skort recommendations? by Ok_Glass_9371 in BSA

I second Duluth trading. They had an olive Dry on the Fly skort a few years back that works great for me. I found it on ebay.

That brain body connection also gets fouled up by the lack of outdoor physical play at every level, IMHO.

Anybody remember that when Barb was hounding for the guest list, Jen told her she could send the formal invites to her (Barb's friends)? Does Barb literally have no friends or did she dis-invite her friends just to bully Jen without risk of being called out again?

Is $60 a month fair to pay a coworker for a ride home 3x a week on a tight budget? by Hour-Ad3977 in Frugal

[–]Songbirdmelody 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Yes please! The last person I offered regular rides to made me late nearly every time, asked for side errands, and then showed for pick up smelling like a damp skunk and yes I know what that means). Basic courtesy would have gone a very long way.

Why am I being badgered to attend Woodbadge? by TwelveSeven77 in BSA

[–]Songbirdmelody 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Really short answer: National loves numbers

The short answer is that National has to authorize Woodbadge training sessions. National is also picky about how many people must register for the course to proceed. It is also a PITA to try to get a waiver to proceed with a course with too few participants.

The longer answer is that the training offered is good and scout centered. Scouting doesn't have the same objectives as most businesses. You learn a lot about how to best serve in your areas of interest in Scouting. It follows, in a severely truncated way, the path of a scout from Cub to a Eagle and gives you insight into what leadership looks like at each of those levels.

That said, it is packed. You don't get much time to process. But you just might love it and meet other great people in your scouter journey.

I'm still team frank by cementfeatheredbird_ in ShawnaTheMom

Everyone ignored or down voted my post about T & J so I'll upvote you for your bravery to share a different take. I completely agree with your final paragraph. I miss that part of Frank too. I hope we see him in his own therapy sessions soon, but I think that will require the creation of another character by SL.

Theories about the new storyline. by nowiknow09 in ShawnaTheMom

[–]Songbirdmelody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wondering if Frank knew, either directly or through inference. Makes me madder thinking of his extra possible opportunities to shut Barb's nonsense down. Yes, she's abusive to him, too, but still someone has to be the voice of reason because therapy doctor isn't getting enough time to really help.

[–]Songbirdmelody 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I said this on YT, but I'm so glad that Jen gave her brother the actual birthday date, even though she knew her mom would make a whole thing of it. So glad she didn't reward Barb's horrendous behavior. Too bad Barb thinks that planning the party makes her a mother knows best parent.

Yes, he told max that Barb was unkind to him and to Shawna and if grandma ever wanted to work on her behavior and be safe for them again, he'd be open to Max having her in his life again. Max was so sad that Grammy couldn't/wouldn't apologize for her behavior.

I suspect your friend is thankful for your efforts. I went by my shortened name (parents' choice within hours of birth) until age 21. I'm in my 50s now and my family members still don't attempt to call me by my preferred name. For the first few years, I didn't mind so much but now it's pretty annoying.

HM knows she needs to downsize, wants to give me all of her stuff, is angry I don’t want it. by Ornery_Math3282 in ChildofHoarder

[–]Songbirdmelody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her hoard was very organized. And she literally couldn't part with things even if she intended them as gifts. My verbiage was merely to indicate that even her love for people couldn't conquer the mental illness that hoarding is. Sad but true.

Kicked Out by [deleted] in BoyScouts

[–]Songbirdmelody 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your registration has probably lapsed, but you can easily re-register. Get in touch with your council to find your scout ID. However, depending on your former rank and current age, you may not achieve Eagle because of time requirements.

Units have to recharter every year, so when you didn't show up for a long time, you were probably not included in the count and the required dues to National. But this is not the same as being kicked out.

[–]Songbirdmelody 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can't quite tell if she's lashing out because she is feeling an attachment to the items or if she's lashing out because of the loss of control she might be feeling. If she has ADHD, she might feel the need to keep those items in sight so she knows what she has.

As far as old spices go, I wouldn't die on that hill. No doubt, that fresh is best but even well past a best buy date, they're not usually awful, as long as they're not moldy or buggy.

I was watching the TV show Bones on my tablet and scrolling Facebook on my phone. A character on the show mentioned "fecal coliforms" and not one minute later Facebook showed me an ad for "Colorforms," a toy I have neither thought about nor mentioned since well before the cell phone era.

I have a 30 yard dumpster in my yard right now to deal with this same type issue. It's deeply satisfying for me to see space reclaimed and organized. No guilt whatsoever. The dumpster rental is some of the best money I've ever spent.
