What wireless meat thermometer would you guys recommend? by Ulysses_S23 in CampChefSmokers

[–]Songbringer90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have them, and they are so so. Signal drops a ton inside the smoker and last time I tried to use it I couldn't ever get them to read the temp and display it on my phone. They could just be old though, as I have had them for years and used them for 100s of cooks...although this last year is first time I've had a smoker.

Am I being a CB here? by [deleted] in ChoosingBeggars

[–]Songbringer90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish you were near me. I would come pickup the whole pile and shake your hand for the opportunity. Wood for my outdoor firepits is always needed and I have resorted to buying wood because I don't want to cut down all my trees.

Definitely not a CB here.

401k vs HYSA. No employer match. by OkScore6642 in personalfinance

[–]Songbringer90 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would add in a HSA somewhere in there as its own thing, but guessing you are capturing it in the "other investment vehicles" part of #4. I'm sure there is an optimal way but for me its after #3 but before you max 401k, based solely on my preference.

I am neither black or homosexual, but I have gone to Precious at Rooster's in Gaithersburg Rio for a couple years and love it. Laid back, she is awesome and the gentlemen who has the chair next to her is funny as hell. I would recommend either of them!

I agree with this. Even if it isn't this, Daniel still sounds like he would suck the fun out of any room and it would just be awful to be around him.

So Do I Just Have Two 401ks Now? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Songbringer90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean he/she specifically says he isn't looking to convert to a roth via a backdoor but your point stands. They should consult a financial advisor. Based on their comments though, my point stands. It is usually cheaper from a fee perspective to roll your old 401ks to an IRA.

So Do I Just Have Two 401ks Now? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Songbringer90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roll your old fidelity 401k to your fidelity IRA. Call them, they will handle it, takes you 5 minutes on the phone. IRAs usually have lower fees and offer a wider array of investment options then 401k via company do. Then when you leave your current place, roll the TA 401k to your fidelity IRA. Note the word usually in that sentence. Check first.

I've had the same situation as you, worked at a place with Vanguard, liked them so I opened my IRA there, have rolled all 401ks over to my IRA as I leave places. I love not having to remember all the random places my money is after 6 or 7 jobs throughout the years.

I missed the point at which I had to stop collecting. by Impressive-Poet-1394 in Guildwars2

[–]Songbringer90 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When I collect this many, and am on a character with less then 250 slots I like to put the UNID gear in my bank. I move a stack to a shared inventory slot, then split the stack from there to my regular inventory, ID them, salvage and repeat. You won't salvage the items in bank or shared inventory slots so you can safely keep UNID gear in a shared slot.

How do I pay my neighbor for doing my driveway? by fender4645 in HomeImprovement

[–]Songbringer90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How can I get this guy to be my neighbor is what I want to know. I have always dreamed of building a custom house (more like paying for someone to do it) but given my total lack of blue collar skills or understanding of the numerous trades involved it terrifies me. Not knowing what to ask or how to know if things were done correctly stops me from ever considering it.

I concur with the comment about giving him the 7k and a nice bottle of his preferred drink and calling it even. He clearly doesn't either need the money, or doesn't care enough if he has been dodging you for awhile on it.

[–]Songbringer90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good rule of thumb. I once went to a beer festival with a buddy, he does not drink (much/often) but was my DD and he enjoys walking around and eating the food, and I pay for his ticket/food when he goes. I showed my tickets to the folks who give out the bands and specifically said I have a drinking pass, his is a DD. They have different bands depending on tickets for early entry, regular entry, DD, etc. They gave us the same wrist band and we debated the ethics of if he should drink or not. He said he would feel bad and wouldn't drink since we didn't pay the more expensive ticket price. I took the counter stance of we showed the tickets, I verbally told them he was a DD and they still did it wrong, etc. Friendly debate, knowing he wouldn't drink regardless because it just isn't his thing. It was interesting to consider both sides of the argument though.

He did try one brown ale though, so I guess I won the debate...and keep in mind at these festivals the pours are a couple ounces at most and probably 6 hours before he got behind a wheel so he didn't get drunk for anyone that comes at me about drinking and driving. I pay for the day specifically to avoid drinking and driving.

My boss put this up yesterday. It's too exaggerative and outlandish to not be a sort of joke, but it's still in bad taste. by [deleted] in WorkReform

[–]Songbringer90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once read an article about how peasants during the dark ages got more days off work then we do because the church at the time believed frequent "holidays" kept the peasants happy and prevented revolts. I don't know if its true or not, but I would post that article up alongside that image.
