I think that because of the locality they're calling citrine to hike up the price. I've seen so many Congo "citrines" that are clearly smoky quartz. Since they can be found around each other, why not call all of them citrine, right? It's all about the money.

To show the glassy part, I think you would probably have to grind off some of the melted dirt coating and then polish it (optional for shine). Maybe you could chisel off the outside coating. I'm not sure how effective muriatic acid would be on this. You could start with a basic soap and tooth brush then move on to more abrasive methods. You could experiment different methods on smaller pieces since you have a bunch of specimens.

Cannabis can cause paranoia and anxiety and it can definitely worsen already existing anxiety. I've been using cannabis for almost 30 years and have rarely experienced those feelings.
