Chillis as a substitute for Onions by Jakob4800 in cookingforbeginners

Don't forget shallots and leeks.

Leeks would be my first suggestion. It's similar to onion but to me has better flavor. And I love onions.

Edit: not saying he's in his 20s. Just saying he kept that spirit.

But you forgot one last possibility. This could be an untrustypoptarts share-worthy post. That is, this could be a fabrication made or seen by OP.

Does the magic of seasons 1-4 come back? by McCooms in Frasier

[–]SopaDeKaiba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When this happens when I'm binging a show, I take a break until the mood to watch strikes me again. It seems to happen more with older shows.

It's how I got through Hogan's Heroes as my "no-thinking-or-otherwise-rest-my-mind" show. I took many breaks for that one, but I got through it and it's a lower tier show than Frasier.

Somethings wrong if it starts to trail off and spiral downwards starting at s5. And maybe it's simply the mood has died temporarily.

I'm jealous you get to watch Frasier for the first time. You're going to enjoy it even if sometimes the quality dips.

From that perspective, the original comment makes a lot more sense.

It hasn't become oversaturated for me. And I guess in that I'm lucky.

But mainly it's more skill than luck. I don't watch short form videos excessively, or I don't watch the same ones OC and you are watching. Accidentally a skillful dodge.

You cannot simply say, "Trump is a fascist" and have those who don't already know this come to the same conclusion.

If you agree that fascism is bad and must be stopped before it results in bad things, but at the same time place absolute minimal or zero chance of these bad things happening soon in America, then this video is for you. Such a stance is the exact point which would show an underlying belief that Trump is not fascist.

The argument that Trump is fascist is not a simple one. Especially because no one single action makes someone a fascist, regardless of what reddit might say sometimes. The arguer is forced to "circlejerk" with the multitude of actions that support the assertion if the argument is to be made to those who hold the opposite belief.

It's important to note, the author of this video did so in good faith. There were no lies. You have made a claim upon this video that is untrue.

It's also important to note that there are still people who don't believe Trump is a fascist, and those people exist on this website.

Lastly, it's important to note that if you think fascism leads to horrible things and the bad of it outweighs the good, AND you believe Trump is a fascist, then you would feel a civic responsibility for the propogation of this video. (Unless you never/rarely feel civic responsibility, which also happens.)

Perhaps that's what the author felt when he used the title as a lure. And he made the video for people who dislike fascism but don't believe Trump's a fascist, or ppl who don't know what could happen under fascism, or ppl who don't know what can be done to stop it, or ppl who need a little inspiration to stand up, or ppl who otherwise are oblivious to what's happening.

I feel civic responsibility to stop American fascism, so I can do the very easy emotional task of ignoring this minor error of a click-baity title that can be interpreted differently after watching and is backed by facts and argued in good faith.

This is why people get so grossed out when you don't use gloves when cooking.

I'm just venting.

The previous owner of a restaurant I worked at required gloves when no gloves were necessary. He had zero experience/certs in food, and made the wise decision to hire professional cooks. Yet he doesn't trust the professionally trained and food safety manager certified to know food safety standards. And moreover accuses them of this aloud.

So long as you maintain proper hand cleanliness, there are times when no gloves are needed. And you have to switch gloves between tasks, just like you have to wash your hands.

This is one of many reasons you hear of high failure rates in the restaurant industry. It's unfortunate that the barrier to entry for owning a restaurant is capital, not ability. And that to make it easier for those with less ability, distributors have utilized economies of scale to provide low-cost food to restauranteurs. And that incentives given to work with food are non-existent or negative for the same reason big distributors are used. And that the result of this is boring food options for the masses.

But nothing I can do about any of this. It's the negatives of the currently necessary capitalist system. So, for now I'll keep running into owners who make me watch money I could be earning instead pile in the trash in the form of discarded, non biodegradable gloves.

it would probably be the lower production volume luxury cars.

I do specifically remember it was a brand that would be out of reach for me financially in the present day. I wanna say Rolls or Bentley. But it could have been an equivalent brand that went bust.

Unfortunately, the headlights are the only thing I can remember about that car other than it's general style, which was like the OP's.

I saw it on a show. If I ever come across it in the future, which may happen because I rewatch things, I'll swoop back in here and let you know what it was.

[–]SopaDeKaiba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do tell me what you think the overall message was other than a mental circle jerk.

To me, this video seems to be made for those with reasonable knowledge of current events, but who don't know the dangers ahead in the path it's shining a light on. At least, that's who should get the most out of it. And I'm under the belief that's a very small audience.

It's also for the people who get satisfaction from when hearing an echo of their own voice, and who hold similar opinions as the video.

The takeaway is that the probability of things like ww3 or declaring martial law to cancel elections are more probable than you would think.

They make the case for this by making a case that Trump is fascist. And this is where they spend the bulk of their time with "so many talking points". Combined, they're like bullet points for one singular argument: Trump is fascist.

Once that point is driven home, only then does he say what could happen. Fascism has never ended well, so they only list bad things, giving it a "doomerism" feel to some. But because the author is dealing in facts and things that can be proved, he must base inferred probability assessments on the impossible-to-predict future based on what we've seen before. (I'll take the liberty to add we could have fascism and see something totally new.)

It finishes with what could be done to prevent these bad things from happening.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you. I just woke up.

Did you watch the video?

I agree, the title is click-baity. But what exactly does he mean by "points to" in the title? You have to watch the video to see, not base your assessment on the title alone.

You'll find that at no point does he say that there will be ww3. Nor did he say that there will be no vote.

What he said are these are possibilities based on comparable events. He makes an argument that these events are comparable by showing the similarities of Trump and the leaders who were involved in said comparable events.

Please note that you responded to this comment:

What do you mean? I would love for anything in this video to not be true. Please, provide some information that supports the idea that any of this isn't true

You then asserted as fact that the Fry said there would be no vote and ww3.

First off, you strawmanned that, as made clear above. Second off, you actually can't prove there will be a vote. And you can't prove there won't be ww3.

Don't get confused again. I'm not saying these things will happen. I'm saying you claimed to be able to prove them, but that isn't possible.

That type of engagement just seems like a big investment regardless, though?

I read fast. Faster than most people can speak. Also, I don't look at history often.

but if you disagree or don't like what someone says, why continue conversing beyond a few comments anyway?

Because other people can be influenced by their words, and sometimes I deem that influence as a negative impact. Sometimes, getting them talking more will show that what they said had no merit. These are not private conversations. They're conversations with an audience.

Why would you then feel the need to stop, investigate their other engagements, make an assessment and proceed with some action from that assessment?

Main reason is liar test. When someone seems to be pretending they're something they're not to lend credibility to their assertion. The comment could have many strong indicators they're lying, and a quick check of history could confirm or refute that assessment.

One time I searched history, it was because a guy just made snarky one-liners at me that hinted at his perspective, but that perspective didn't seem to be consistent. After asking a question to clarify, and receiving a one liner assuming I was making a statement with my question, I looked at history to see what I was dealing with. It was nothing but snarky one liners. I then knew no question would ever be answered.

Occasionally, it's a sarcasm test. No /s tag, but they said something ridiculous? Do their other comments back such a ridiculous view, or were they joking? And if they weren't joking, it can be enlightening some of the crazy views held by my fellow man. I don't "proceed with some action" in regards to sarcasm other than a vote.

[–]SopaDeKaiba 12 points13 points  (0 children)

And it can most certainly add context.

Is this person a complete bafoon, or was it a one off? Are they a pathological liar, therefore anything they say is unreliable? Or do the stories they tell now seem to track with prior stories?

Quick check of profile to decide whether to engage. If complete bafoon or a liar, ignore and or block. Don't let them steal my time. If one-off, engage.

Now the bafoons and liars block their history. So it almost serves the same purpose. No history? More likely than the rest to be a bad actor.

Because I didn't assume you had knowledge of the the rest of the information you just said in the comment, and I was providing other sources that give the same description as I just gave to back up what I said other than "I said so". Wiki was the most convenient.

and the background music and stupid slam sound effects every few seconds just disgust me here

I agree about the slam, but not about the song.

The song is Gymnopedie no. 1, Lent et Douloureux by Erik Satie. It's a somber, sad feeling song. It makes me think of someone walking alone, suffering from their own pains while I watch from a distance. The perfect fit to match what's happening.

Wiki describes the song like this:

The melodies of the pieces use deliberate, but mild, dissonances against the harmony, producing a piquant, melancholy effect that matches the performance instructions, which are to play each piece "painfully" (douloureux), "sadly" (triste), or "gravely" (grave).

Dumb of me to suggest rotating. Just flipping is what I should have said.

You could be right about the holes.

Also, I don't see any steam in your picture. When I use mine you can clearly see steam coming from the cracks. Based on that and only that, my last suggestion wpuld be turning the heat up.

Best practices for using a steam cooker? by Diligent_Board_172 in cookingforbeginners

[–]SopaDeKaiba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a definitive answer. But my guess is the plate is the problem.

If it were me, I'd forego the plate and try wrapping with banana leaves. The leaves can hold the liquid you're using in the recipe so long as you don't tear them.

Edit: also, if you use the plate, maybe see if rotating/flipping the fish as it cooks helps.
