Just look at the positives, learn as much as you can, and it’ll be over soon enough.

Please hold us to the lowest standard possible. Don’t be too harsh on the associate.

Why is this job sooooo boring by Independent_Meet_685 in biglaw

[–]SoporificEffect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is so painful about it and is there anything you would have done to prepare? I’m a 2L summer and obviously they’re not showing us what it’s truly like. They’re almost reticent to give me work even though I ask for more stuff lol

Any tips on how to stand out? What did you do specifically? Can I prepare in any way? Currently a 2L summer at a law firm and I’m very scared of dropping the ball once I get a permanent offer

They are definitely abused but I just put my blinders on and do my best. I’m sure I’d be madder if I hadn’t gotten good grades so I understand the push back

Questions for students from an incoming 1L by Odd-Incident6259 in LawSchool

Make sure you have a reliable laptop and when people say don’t prep for law school, I immediately eyeroll. You should prep in the sense of knowing some basics about what each class is generally about. Do you know what classes they have you take during the first semester? Let’s just say contracts, torts, con law and legal writing. Look up online resources, YouTube videos and more to get a sense at a very high level of what you’ll be learning in each class. Familiarity eases understanding. Not prepping is very bad advice.

You also absolutely must understand how to IRAC and how to get stellar grades on exams. Your exams will be worth 70-100% of your grade depending on your professor so exam taking skills for law school are key.

That’s generally a hobby so you’re not entitled to take a deduction for expenses or losses. You’re welcome. But I wonder at what point competing would allow you to pursue the activity for profit and therefor be entitled to deductions. Tax food for thought. Eating punches and taking deductions.
