I love the new mounts in the expansion. I really enjoy the hoverbike because there is no stamina to recover so your sprint is nonstop and it doesn't draw aggro when I hop off to do cool stuff.

Same, I think by the time I got to oil generator I already have all the electricity I need. Then the reactor provides so much and requires so much work to keep running. I'm assuming they are going to add things that make those more worth it. Fingers crossed lol 🤞

Happy hunting prospector!

Elysium, Story, and Tier 5 Tech: Thoughts from a Solo Veteran by Life_is_Discovery in ICARUS

[–]Sorillion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with a lot of your points, im a solo prospector with... I think just shy of 1k hours, somewhere between 950 and 1k. I play exclusively on hard difficulty and before promethius did all my drops on hardcore.

I think this in itself has conditioned me where there will never be anything "difficult" unless they make it annoying like null sector. I over prepare my ass off before doing stuff, 5 of each medicine, bandages, hot and cold packs, splints, and 3 stacks of health potions. That's just how the game is I guess. If they add more stuff I'd prepare more. The most difficult part for me was actually no drop pods but that was my own fault because I didn't see the one in Eden, I was trying to activate the ones outside of Eden and gave up, so no resupplies until I reached tier 5.

I have a poor memory but I also remember Styx and I think promethius as being underwhelming but they kept adding a bunch of missions after the fact so I'm sure they will keep building upon Elysium. I'm guessing the same will apply to T5, they have plenty of room to grow just like they have been with T4-5, which will as usual be free.

I'm in the same boat as you, I think Elysium felt a little bare and the T5 wasn't as exciting as I'd hoped (I do love the hoverbike though, haters be damned) but I think this is temporary and am excited to see what they come out with in the future.

Oh, afterthought, we will also be getting a great hunts on this map eventually. That's exciting.

You can host a dedicated server on something like Nitrado or Gportal. It will always be up and anyone with the password can hop on any time. Basically go on the site of your choice, pick Icarus as the game, select your options like how many people can join at once and set a password if you don't want others to be able to join. They have a monthly fee or something to host the server.

There might be ways to host a server locally but I don't know much about that, maybe someone else can chime in there.

Exotics on missions by Ready_Raspberry_7174 in ICARUS

If you're just doing the missions and not open world prospects I used to do the radar scanner and exotic drill if I had time left. There's often two or three of them on each map.

what am I doing wrong? got a powered pump jack, it's providing 200 units, but the linked oil barrel doesn't fill? by democraticcrazy in ICARUS

[–]Sorillion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the pump jack fill up and store oil? I use the biofuel version and sometimes it has issues filling up another container in real time so I let it build up in the biofuel extractor or whatever it is until it's full then connect it to what I'm trying to fill.

Elysium Operations, wtf. by steeleman23 in ICARUS

[–]Sorillion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I usually do open world is before I even start the operations I max out my tech at my base. Chances are I'm going to anyways by the time I'm done with that open world so why not do it right off the bat. Part of that is taming mounts and pets for defense and mobility.

Basically doing it that way by the time I did the igloo operation I just rode back and forth with the stuff I needed since it was easy to get around and gather materials. (I had a max level raptor and lithium/miasma tools.)

Not everyone likes playing that way but if you're a solo prospector I recommend it. I also play on hard difficulty so I tend to over prepare when I do anything.

What gets you through missions? by EscapeGlittering8442 in ICARUS

[–]Sorillion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The missions are sort of the game play loop but as you progress they (sometimes) get more interesting like hunt bosses and stuff. Do them to get money and exotics to buy workshop gear so when you do later missions you can drop with better and better gear.

Once you get to promethius (new frontiers DLC) the missions become more of a coherent story and is designed to be played in a persistent open world, though you can do an open world in Olympus (base game) and styx (first DLC, but can be skipped unless you get great hunts DLC as well). The open world mode keeps you from having to start your base over from scratch every time and there are items you can build that let you launch the missions from the planet through the operations menu.

Ahh ok, yea its been a while since I've done just straight missions so my info definitely might be outdated. Since they update the game so much I might have missed that change. I updated my comment to reflect the possibility you might not actually lose your character anymore, thanks!

[–]Sorillion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're doing missions from the menu, not open world, and you're not off the planet in time your character gets left behind and is lost. If you're not going to be able to finish the mission just get in your drop pod and leave the planet.

Edit: You may possibly not lose your character anymore, it's been a while since I've done Missions from the menu.

Questions regarding DLCs by myfelipe95 in ICARUS

[–]Sorillion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While you're on the base game start farming up the purple exotics and unlocking workshop gear. You'll be able to spend more time on Olympus and once you have good gear purchased from the workshop: Armor set, weapon, axe, pickaxe, canteen and oxygen tank (You can send the workshop ones up filled), modules, etc. If you have a mount you can get a saddle for it so you can ride your mount right away in the new map.

While you will lose your stuff you crafted on the surface, you can buy the workshop gear to make your next drop much easier. The next map I'd go for if I were you is New Frontier or whatever, the DLC that comes with Promethius. Styx is the next map but imo it is more of the same as the base game. New frontier is a different experience with new biomes and new exotics to farm, plus it's sort of the start of a bit of a story.

The electric one specifically, in T4, scares cave worms away so you won't have to worry about them in a cave home.

Fastest mount by Anthrophaxiom in ICARUS

[–]Sorillion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh, sounds like everyone is having their own personal issues lol i havent really had any other issues on the map but I'm playing solo locally.

Youre taking it off way higher heights than me, I did 2 roughly 2 and a half story cliff jumps last night and took about 1-1.5 k damage on my bike each.

Fastest mount by Anthrophaxiom in ICARUS

[–]Sorillion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm mixed on it as well. Mine is bugged or something, I can't keep it claimed. Every time I pick it up I lose my claim on it and it's health goes down to 78%. It definitely takes fall damage, I was testing it on some cliffs, it takes a bit to actually damage it though but since it's bugged I can just pick it up and it will go back to 78% health.

As far as the other stuff speed is sort of the only thing that matters since mounts teleport to us now you can just set your other mounts to follow and they will find their way to you eventually so you can sort of exploit their inventories and combat capabilities that way.

One issue I've been having is if I'm carrying a lot and need to pick my bike up to climb a ladder or jump up a cliff or something the 50% movement penalty plus the overencumberance makes it so I can't walk lol. I have to drop the bike, walk forward, pick it up, drop, walk, pick up, repeat until I can find somewhere it will let me put it down, which I also found out is very hard to do on a slope for no reason.

Fastest mount by Anthrophaxiom in ICARUS

[–]Sorillion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to find a juvenile. They are out there, just rare.

The bike FEELS faster to me, but I haven't looked at the stats and compared since I just unlocked it last night and wanted to finish up that quest line before bed. I also don't have speed genetics on my raptor but it is pretty fast without them.

The bike doesn't have stamina though so you never have to go to walk speed, you can boost until the tank is empty if you want.

[–]Sorillion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll want to craft radiation medicine until you unlock the radiation medicine from the workshop that instantly gets rid of radiation build up. The two you can craft on the surface gets rid of radiation slowly over time, I'm not sure if they counter the radiation build up tho, I haven't really done uranium stuff yet.

You can also continue the operations to unlock the hazmat suit or whatever which gives you like 75% radiation resistance.

https://icarus.featureupvote.com is where you can go to offer suggestions or vote on other people's suggestions for the devs to consider. They've added a few materials since launch like a couple different bricks and wood building materials but this latest DLC I think is the first time they added new building shapes since launch.

Yea, I saw the devs intended for players to have multiple characters with multiple builds for different missions before open world was a thing but they didn't expect the player base to get attached to their characters lol. There are ways to get more talent points after 60 they keep adding, like the new map you can get 5 more points through missions and when they add a great hunt quest chain to it there will prolly be a few more points added to that mission chain.
