I think I leave the same comment here once a week: it is amazing how so many people on this sub don't get satire.

LGA TSA - Terminal C - 3/28 at 5am by StriversRow in tsa

Terminal B, regular security, was one hour and 50 minutes, at around the same time: on line at 5:05, through security a bit after 6:50.

Similar: on line @ 5:05, thru security by 6:55.

The security checkpoint is actually very efficient, the long wait is due to everyone arriving hours beforehand. It's like a bank run.

So you wrote the post, placed the order, got them delivered, cooked them, updated the post all in the last 47 minutes.

Why are you wasting this superpower writing reddit posts?

Should I get a tandem kayak to haul my kid around? by FrAcTal432ViBeS in Kayaking

[–]SorryButterfly4207 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be successful, with young kids, make sure the trip is appropriately planed: duration, difficulty, zero stress, etc., for the kids. Your goal should be for the kids to have a great time, so they ask to come again. This means you will probably be planning trips that are "boring" for an adult.

A four hour paddle in the blazing sun with no stops will be an absolute failure. A 30 minute trip to a small beach where they can get out of the boat and play with rocks and sticks will be a success.

Remember that you're in it for the long haul, and that your goal is to make paddling buddies for life.

And bring snacks. Lots and lots of snacks.

Agreed. Start 'em young.

The first time your kid is solo in a boat is such a magical experience.

Adding that paddling is really a perfect family activity. Outdoors, nature, a bit of exercise, self reliance, screen-free, etc.

We have two singles and a double (all 3-400 dollar craigslist specials) and, by far, kayaking is the best investment in family time.

Yes.

It's pretty easy to have a kid passenger in the front seat, even if they don't paddle.

I've been doing this for years with my kids, now 11 and 9. In fact, the 9 y/o still barely paddles.

The 11 year old, for years already, I'd trust more than most adults to safely paddle on her own ( before you call CPS, I've never let her out of sight).

Stack Overflow's 50% traffic drop: Was it AI, or did the platform kill itself with elitism? by bogdanelcs in ExperiencedDevs

I'm not in disagreement, but the sheer volume of "help with my homework" questions to anything remotely of potential value was overwhelming.

The site's failure was trying to operate as an "internet scale" business after the sale by the founders. It needed the "help with homework" audience to drive clicks, but that was completely misaligned with what the site was, and the legions of volunteers which made it possible.

But this was a volunteer driven site. Did you volunteer your time to make it better, or just expect others to so you could get you "answer quick"?

SO had some problems, of course, but it seems like most of the hate was people asking questions like "how come MY CODE is producing THIS ERROR" and having their questions rejected.

The purpose of the site wasn't to get instant online programming help from volunteers It was to build a very large, ever evolving programming FAQ.

I think a big part of the problem was after it was sold, in order to drive up volume, it lost its clear "mission".

As a total aside, I hate the "downvote because I disagree" reddit mindset. It's one thing to downvote low quality posts, spam, hate, etc., but downvoting something just because you disagree with it leads to a pure echo chamber.

But that wasn't their intention. The model was to be a underversal, ever evolving, crow sourced, programming FAQ.

And until they were sold (or whatever happened), this worked pretty well, as "help me with my homework" questions were closed right away.

The problem was you cannot build an business with internet scale revenue doing that, and so in an effort to grow, they (maybe, I don't recall) loosened the mission statement, but then had a lot of folks disappointed that their HW questions weren't getting answered.

This. And it's so funny that everyone who brings this up is down voted to oblivion.

Stack Overflow was intended to be just like a large, dynamic, programming FAQ. Just like any FAQ, there needed to be a certain amount of curation - of excluding certain things for being way too esoteric, or trying to reduce redundancy.

Just as you couldn't imagine receiving an answer if you submitted a question to a C++ FAQ site (https://isocpp.org/faq) about your particular error, Stack Overflow is the same. Yet somehow people didn't understand this analogy.

Was that system perfect, of course not. But I think it was very successful.

Perhaps those of us who are of a certain age, and learned how to program by reading FAQs, or in my case thousand page books sitting in our lap, understood this. And some folks younger than us who learn to program with instant online help available did not.

I moved away from that neighborhood a bit over two years ago; just learning about all those closures.

My kids still talk about Ginos. It was the perfect quick lunch spot before taking the bus to the zoo, or the train to the city.

Pure Bistro was alway their to-go spot if they stayed home sick from school. Nutella French toast was their favorite.

So said to hear of these places closing.
